Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Family Room, Sleeping Porch, Sleeps 10+

Super Private Custom Built Home on 388 acres.

This is a one-of-a-kind vacation rental because of the level of privacy and the large piece of property that is exclusively yours to use and explore. You will have the entire property (388 acres) all to yourself to enjoy. The house is a beautiful custom built home with hardwood cherry floors, two large redwood decks, four bedrooms and two baths, a family room, living room, dining room and is in one of the most beautiful locations that you can imagine. It is like renting a park without any other people. Located in the redwood belt you can enjoy miles of trails along cascading streams and little waterfalls that run through fern covered redwood forests. Fish or swim in the pond, bike or hike along the trails. Lay out in the hot tub at night and watch the stars in the crystal clear skies. The quietness of the property is truly amazing and is like nothing you will find anywhere else.

Have an undisturbed family reunion in one of the most beautiful pieces of property that you will ever visit.

The custom built home is well maintained and has many homelike qualities. There is a large play set for the children and a gas barbeque for entertaining. A beautiful creek runs past the front of the house and two ponds are on the property. One of the ponds is only 100 feet from the house. There are numerous species of wildlife including hawks, owls, pond turtles, river otters, and great blue herons to name a few.

There are two decks, one is covered and faces the pond and the other faces a meadow with 250 year old oak trees. The kids can pitch a tent in the adjacent meadows and explore the forests and creeks while you lay in the hammock among the oak trees.

This rental is as close to a wilderness adventure as you can get without actually having to rough it.

Additional photos available upon request.

Holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day Fourth of July etc) are charged at normal summer rates and may have longer minimum stay periods.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Art and Muaureen,

Today is Blair's birthday and I rented your home as a gift to him. We couldn't ask for anything better! No sooner did Leta leave than Blair was at the pond reeling in his first fish. That was yesterday. Want to guess where he is now, 30 hours later? At the pond! Your home and its surroundings are spectacular! Leaving is going to be difficult as we feel we've discovered paradise!

Sincerely,

The Edwards

Relaxing getaway in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

We did not know such places existed so near urban areas. The house is very nice: relatively new, large, warm, and comfortable. The property made it a memorable experience: large wooded property at the deep end of a valley, covered in towering fir, redwood & oak trees, crossed by streams, and even a small scenic pond with fish and a wild otter. Be aware it is very mountainous so hiking is strenuous except down the long tree-covered private road. We felt every moment there was heavenly -- and expect to return.

Comfortable and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here! It is well off the beaten path so be prepared for some off-roading in your vehicle. Also, appliances (dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, hair dryer) are not provided as the electrical system is a bit fragile. You can't run 2 appliances at the same time or the fuse will blow. We were conscience of this, so we didn't have any problems. Overall this place is extremely comfortable and peaceful.

A quiet paradise

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful cottage is exactly as described. It was very remote, and very, very quiet. It was so lovely to wake up in the morning and hear nothing at all, except birds. The pond is filled with sweet little turtles and what looked like shrimp or crayfish. The grounds were pretty, and the cottage itself was charming and wonderful. Thank you Art for sharing your wonderful home with us.

Little slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Muir Lodge is delightfully rustic with a full spectrum of outdoor activities available on the property or within an hour's drive. The house is equipped with everything you need and more. We made many decadent meals in the well supplied kitchen (do bring extra coolers as the fridge and freezer are very small). We spent a lot of time in the hot tub, playing in the yard, playing board games, and hiking around the property. We loved swimming in the Eel River and hiking the Mendocino Headland Trail (Mendo is quite a drive the windy forest, but well worth it). Enjoy this incredible sanctuary, we sure did!
