As a retired airline employee I have had the privilege to travel the world and experience many different countries, peoples, cultures and sites. My first encounter with Croatia and the Croatian people came shortly after their war of independence and I fell in love with their new country and their nearly timeless culture. With the opportunity to purchase a beautiful home on a beautiful island in a villahe surrounded by vineyards and olive groves and looking out to Adriatic Sea, how could I resist? My permanent home is in Atlanta and my subdivision there has more than twice the population of my Croatian village.
Cece Miles purchased this house in 2007
Croatians are a warm, welcoming people and a delight to know. Hvar is endlessly beautiful and filled with history and largely unspoiled by tourism. The local foods and wines are among the best in the world and by most standards, very affordable. What's not to love!
The view from the balcony is reason enough to become a life long resident. The blend of old Europe with the exuberance of a rapidly developing east European nation is exciting. Mix that with an inviting culture, natural beauty rivaling any place in the world, wonderful wines and olive oils, diving, boating, world class sailing, adventure sports, vibrant night life, and I find it difficult to imagine a more ideal home away from home.
We stayed at Vila Vino for six nights. The location is indeed beautiful since it is located on a calm part of the island with nice views and beaches. Nevertheless, we never experienced a more unprofessional ooking process. The owner (apparently an old lady with bad memory) lives in the US. The property is managed by a croation couple which lives in two parts of croatia. We only got contact details of the lady in the US. She only responded to our first e-mail. The only possible conversation afterwards was via sms (quite pricy if you live in europe). We only wanted a written conformation/ a contract and some payment details. it took my about 15 sms to get a wrong confirmation document without any payment details. We also requested a contact to arrange a meeting for the keys at the property. I needed to ask three times until I got wrong contact details. I only got correct details when I threatened to cancel the reservation. At this stage we were quite sceptical whether it is scam or not but the US owner reassured me three times via sms that the booking is confirmed. Since the owner didn't want any money in advance we decided to go there. I also phoned the croation Lady who cleans the place and hands out keys and told her that we are coming and spoke with her again when we were close to the house. When we arrived at the property the lady wasn't there but another family in our apartment. We phoned her again and she was really surprised because others were coming for renting our apartment but she didn't feel in charge since she only does the cleaning (despite the fact that we called 30 minutes ago and she knew that we were coming!!!). I spoke with her husband on the phone who lives in another city and also manages bookings on the house. He confronted me that we didn't payed but the ther two families in the apartment did. I told him that we didn't have any possibility but he wasn't interested. Our only option was to take the very small and stinky flat in the lower part of the building without the magnificent sea view. They offered us some small admission but I would advise you not to rent apartments from these owners/managers. It is a catrastophe!
A great vacation experience ! Getting there the first time is a challenge but it's worth it. The Villa is wonderful: two large bedrooms, modern bathroom, comfortable living room , fully equipped kitchen, and large beautiful deck to sit on for vino or dinner or just watching the ships on the sea! We were nicely welcomed by Ana , Stephen and Silvanna and given all the information we needed. The Hvar tips, provided by the owner were great. We did many of the items mentioned. We loved Vila Vino, and all of Croatia. We would love to go back!
We stayed at Vila Vino in the little town of Sveta Nedjelja on Hvar Island, and I must say it was the highlight of our trip. The apartment was incredibly well appointed with just about everything that you could need for the beach, cooking a meal, doing a load of laundry (I know...not glamorous, but very helpful to be able to do!), or spending an evening relaxing on the balcony with a glass of wine. If you are looking for a place to relax and truly soak up what Croatia has to offer--seriously, this is the place! There is a breathtaking view looking out over the Adriatic, and the entire house truly capitalizes on that. Definitely make sure you are there for sunset at least once during your stay. Sveta Nedijilja is quite adorable, and we enjoyed both kayaking and the pebble beach there. We also ventured to Jelsa and Hvar Town on day trips. It is advisable to arrive (at least the first day) with plenty of daylight, as the roads can be a bit tricky until you get used to them. I'm already thinking about when I can return, as I know we only explored about 1/1000 of what Hvar has to offer. I'll also note that we were given excellent tips on what to see and do during our stay. Croatia is an amazing place, and our stay in Hvar was far and away the best of the best.
Vila Vino and Hvar Island is a perfect place for a family vacation! We stayed in apartment Bogdanusa with our three teenagers for eight days and it was one of the best vacations we've ever had. The apartment itself has all the amenities you could need, pots, pans, dishes, etc., beach towels and mats, even a cooler you can take to the beach, great AC, and ceiling fans in every room, making you feel like you're at home. There is a huge terrace of off the kitchen and living-room and the view from it is absolutely breathtaking. During the day you can see the beautiful blue Adriatic sea for miles and at night the sky is so clear, I can't remember the last time I saw so many stars. We loved having coffee and breakfast on the terrace or relaxing in the evening with a glass of local wine. There is a beautiful beach 15 min walk away, but we have also visited other beaches in the area like Jagodna, Lucisca, Ivan Dolac, and Dubovica. All of them beautiful, although my favorite would have to be Lucisca beach, even though the drive there was a little scary but so worth it. Our kids really enjoyed our stay there and we would go back tomorrow if we could. I would definitely stay at Vila Vino again since it has everything to make your stay so comfortable and probably the best view in Sveta Nedjilja. It is such a quiet and relaxing place, I would recommend it to anyone for a perfect vacation.
Wow! This place is remarkable. We stayed here with our two little boys on the top floor. It was perfect for us. The view is hard to take in, it is so incredible. It is quiet and peaceful and has everything you can think of that you may need. On top of the great AC, there are ceiling fans! Pizza cutters! extra bathroom supplies! Paper towels! Everything! The top floor unit is small, but perfectly quaint and adequate for our family. I loved this little village and our stay here. However, it would have been nice to know how isolated the village is compared to the ferry and Hvar Town. It is over an hour drive to Hvar Town, and if you go via a somewhat harrowing dirt road, perhaps 45 minutes. Frankly, it is worth it, but one should know that this place is no where near the "happening" part of Hvar. It was just fine for us!
Vila Vino is a little piece of Heaven on Earth. The Vila was equiped with every ammenity we would need to make our stay perfect! It was truly home away from home. The views from the balcony were breathtaking, and we would sit and just relax in the morning with our coffee and again at sunset with our favorite local wine, just soaking in the incredible view. This was one of the most relaxing places I have ever stayed.
There is a little market directly behind the Vila that has the basics, and the main part of the village is a 10min walk away. The Adriatic is crystal clear and stunning! There are cute restaurants to eat in and the locals are very friendly. A car might be helpful but was not necessary. We were happy just spending time at the villa and walking to the village.
Winery visits, wine tasting, konobas (wine bars), olives and aromatic lavender scent!!! Hike up to St Domenica cave chapel where villagers worshipped from 1500 to 1700's!
