About Cynthia Riggs

I have lived in New Orleans since 1973 and worked as a school psychologist for the New Orleans school system for 23 years. Our daughter grew up in the B & B, until she moved to her own place at 19. In 2005, I became a real estate agent specializing in historic properties. I love New Orleans with its rich history, wonderful architecture and fabulous food.

Cynthia Riggs purchased this house in 1977

Why Cynthia Riggs chose Milan

I purchased this house as a fire damaged property in 1977. I lived in the house for 30 years and working on it was a labor of love. I opened the Dusty Mansion as a B & B for the World's Fair in 1984, but closed it in 2007. In 2008 we began renting the house as a corporate rental.

From the moment of Check in with Cynthia, we felt right at home and as if we'd been friends forever. Dusty Mansion is perfect in every way. Plenty of room inside and out. We were a group of 7, but could have fit more with ease. All the bedrooms have private entrances , and there are more than enough bathrooms to go around. An awesome back yard to hang out in, both in the sunshine and the shade, with a pond to enjoy. The nighttime lights in the yard lend themselves to the perfect ambience, and invites you to stay out under the stars. The balcony off the 3rd floor, with a view of the city skyline, is another great outdoor space to spend time.

Plenty of off street parking is a plus. If you've been to NOLA before , you know how hard that can come by.

The Street Car and bus lines are within walking distance and there are plenty of choices for food nearby.

We highly recommend Dusty Mansion to anyone looking for an awesome place to stay.

Thank you Cynthia for making the Mansion so inviting, and we WILL be back!!!!

Owner's Response: Dawn and her friends were wonderful guests who took good care of my house, and were respectful of my neighbors. I look forward to having them again as return visitors.

This place was great! Cynthia took good care of us, the house was much nicer and larger than we expected. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to sleep a large number of people for a reasonable price. Close to streetcar system to get downtown or to the french quarter or a cab most anywhere is $15.

Cozy, comfortable and fun!

  • 5 of 5

The house was homey and comfortable for our extended family of 10. There was plenty of seating both inside and out. The collections of books, old cameras, maps, etc., were a great touch. There's plenty of linens and the kitchen is fully stocked. The ambience made it seem like you were staying at a friend's home.

All you need to bring is the fun!

Great Getaway to New Orleans!

  • 5 of 5

Great spacious location to stay while you explore around New Orleans. The house comfortably fitted 10 people and was within 20 minutes of all major tourist locations within the city. Hostess was very accommodating. Would recommend to anyone traveling down there with a large group of people. Thank you again!

Very spacious!

We had a large group and the house accommodated is well. The rooftop deck was definitely the highlight of the trip as we ended up spending most of our time there. The back yard is massive! Overall a great choice for our group. Cynthia was very accommodating as well!
