This wonderful Turn of the Century home was previously a Bed & Breakfast for more than 20 years (1984-2007). Located in a quiet neighborhood of Uptown New Orleans, this property is near the St. Charles Avenue street car which provides easy access to the French Quarter, the Aquarium, the Superdome and the Convention Center. Tulane & Loyola Universities are only about one mile away. Audubon Park and Zoo are also nearby.

This charming property offers 5 bedrooms, 4 full baths and 2 half-baths. Each bedroom has an individually controlled air conditioning system. There is a game room on the first floor with a pool table which can convert to a ping pong table. There is also a TV room with cable/ DVD. The fully furnished kitchen makes it easy to fix yourself a cup of tea or entertain a group. There is excellent off street parking for 5-6 cars and a lovely backyard that extends the entertaining space.

About Cynthia Riggs

I have lived in New Orleans since 1973 and worked as a school psychologist for the New Orleans school system for 23 years. Our daughter grew up in the B & B, until she moved to her own place at 19. In 2005, I became a real estate agent specializing in historic properties. I love New Orleans with its rich history, wonderful architecture and fabulous food.

Cynthia Riggs purchased this house in 1977

Why Cynthia Riggs chose New Orleans

I purchased this house as a fire damaged property in 1977. I lived in the house for 30 years and working on it was a labor of love. I opened the Dusty Mansion as a B & B for the World's Fair in 1984, but closed it in 2007. In 2008 we began renting the house as a corporate rental.

This place was great! Cynthia took good care of us, the house was much nicer and larger than we expected. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to sleep a large number of people for a reasonable price. Close to streetcar system to get downtown or to the french quarter or a cab most anywhere is $15.

Hidden jewel in NOLA

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house to attend a family reunion. I've rented many times from this site. This house was perfect, for 9 adults and 5 children. Cynthia was great thru out the whole process. The house was perfect in so many ways. Enough privacy for everyone yet when we all wanted to all be together we could. Played ping pong every morning, my chef daughter loved the spacious and well stocked kitchen. The children loved the yard and played hide and seek easily in the house. The water pressure was amazing thru out the house, which is so important when you're in a large home. Parking was, great, enough for all if our cars, since parking in the neighborhood was at a preumim. Thanks Cynthia for a wonderful experience. I would rent here again in a heart beat.

Great for familly get togethers

While we had planned to spend much of our time sightseeing, we found that we enjoyed the house so much that we spent most of the time there. My 7 year old grandson learned to play pool!

Our family of 16 rented so we could all be together when attending our nephew/cousin's wedding. It was absolutely perfect! We had room for lots of fun and visiting. Cynthia was great to work with and has special touches that we really appreciated.

The perfect fit!

  • 5 of 5

Had a blast staying here for Mardi Gras week 2015. A very cute, clean house with tons of character. The house was the perfect size for our group of 13 - plenty of space for everyone - good sized rooms, plenty of bathrooms, and a great patio for everyone to hang out. House sits within close proximity to St. Charles, Freret, shopping, restaurants, and bars. Cynthia was an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the whole rental process. 100% recommended!!

NOLA vacation in July 2011

  • 5 of 5

This was the smoothest transaction I have had. Cynthia was wonderful to work with. The kitchen is fantastic and we had a great time cooking Red Beans, Crawfish Etoufee and Gumbo...everything we needed was at our fingertips. We had 4 kids at the house and they LOVED the pingpong table, pool table and playing hide-n-go seek for hours. It is a beautiful home and I slept like a baby.

CON: I felt the distance to downtown was alot of work to overcome and I got tired of pushing my friends to not want to sit around the house instead. It was a 15 minute walk to the trolley and then another 35-45 minutes by trolley to get into downtown New Orleans. Most of the time due to our feet killing us, we would hail a cab or car to drive us back to the house (average $20 for the amount of people we had). This is NOT Cynthia's fault at all. Just something I feel needs to be addressed.
