About Charlotte DONAHUE

We are a family of 5 who lived 6 years in Singapore. We just come back to the South of France. We are renting this charming our apartment newly refurbish to better host people on a weekly basis.

Charlotte DONAHUE purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Charlotte DONAHUE chose Val-de-Grâce

My origins are American and Irish, I love to host people coming from my country of origin and abroad. We decided to start this rental activity to enjoy new contacts and have the opportunity to let discover the amazing city of Paris to new people.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is centrally located in a very lively neighbourhood of Paris. This is why I like to come there and enjoy the calm of the location and at the same time the more lively streets nearby.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent one wonderful week in Christmas time. It is just fine for 4 persons and we noticed that the apartment was newly renovated and furnished nicely. The problems occured in September have now been fixed : shower is new, all electrical appliances work well and the atmosphere is really pleasant.

The neighbourhood is amazing. You can go to the jardin des plantes, rue St Jacques, mouffetard, Monge, Montparnasse... very easily.

We strongly recommand this place.

Great location, quiet local neighborhood, everything you need for a stay

  • 4 of 5

The host was responsive and helpful. The apartment has everything needed for a comfortable stay. Close enough to the river to walk to most locations, but in a private, residential area 2 blocks from a great market. No AC, common for Paris, only a challenge for very hot days. We don't expect roomy accommodations in Paris and this was much more space than usual, although not large.

Loved the apartment, loved the location!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was wonderful. Julie checked us in and kindly took the time to explain to use how to use the dishwasher, etc. We loved the location close to Notre Dame, Jardin Du Luxembourg, and Rue Mouffetard with plenty of bistros where we loved to eat as we are not into the high end snooty restaurants. All of them gave us kind and excellent service. The apartment has wonderful water pressure and heat, and has fans in the closet if the weather is warm.

The apartment was spacious for a large city for three - bigger than the one I used to live in in Manhattan in New York City. We loved as a party of three to have the 2 bathrooms with the 2 bedrooms. The balcony is just big enough to seat 2 maybe three. We enjoyed wine, bread and cheese in the afternoon out there. The weather for end of March beginning April was very warm!

The lift is indeed small for American standards but one has to understand the building is probably older than the USA and it is not easy to put in elevators into old apartments. Having grown up in Europe the one person size did not bother me, but my sister in law walked up. The only thing you need to know is that when you step out of the elevator you are immediately on the circular staircase so tread carefully.

In Italy we didn't find washcloths so I brought some which was not necessary as they had them there.

The security system was easy to use. The recommended cab company that speaks english was easy to call from the apartment phone which was complimentary and arrived in 4 minutes for our ride to the airport.

Because of security these days we allowed 4 hours from departing the airport and it was a good thing as some idiot left a suitcase in our terminal and they had to close it for a while to check it out. We still had at least a half hour to get a glass of wine prior to departing.

As described (ish)

  • 3 of 5

The location was very good--we had two small children with us. It's close to about six bus lines, which was great as we found getting off and on the buses with toddlers was easier than navigating the metro's stairs, escalators, etc.

After we had booked our reservation and made a (non-refundable) deposit, we learned that we would be dealing with a property manager. They were going to meet us at the apartment at an arranged time, but would charge us 30 euro if we were more than an hour late--even if was due to circumstances beyond our control, such as a delayed flight, RER issues, etc. The day before we arrived, the manager informed us that we would not be able to check in at 12:30 as previously agreed, but instead at 2:30. Then, it turned out the apartment wasn't ready until about 3:45. One of our children fell asleep as we were walking around and we were able to let her lie down in one of the bedrooms, but this was only after we went back to the apartment and threatened to sit on the staircase until the cleaning was done. Having said that, the rooms and bathrooms were clean.

The apartment itself is *very* flatteringly photographed. The furniture that is pictured (which, except for the annoying garbage can that is too large to be stored under the counter, is different from what was there during our stay) makes it look more spacious than it really is. The floors have maybe been refinished, but certainly not refurbished or restored. They are creaky and the walls are paper thin. It's not a complaint, just something for a prospective renter to be aware of.

Great location and good value for money

  • 4 of 5

three of us stayed for a week, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms it was perfect. yes it is small but for the location and paris it is great value for money. the management team were a joy to deal with, thank you. with a bakery one block down, a small grocery store downstairs and Rue Moufetard a short walk away (markets and food stalls/stores of all kinds) and a great selection of local restaurants and cafes. metro stops were between 7 and 12 minutes walk which was great.

Location is a real plus

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 weeks and really enjoyed the neighborhood. Rue Mouffetard was visited daily for cheese, baquettes and other goodies plus there is a little market next to the front door of the apartment building. The apartment was clean, small but efficient and good for 4 people. Having 2 Bathrooms is really nice. The management team was excellent. The apartment buliding itself is a little run down and the elevator is very small and it lands between floors so you still have to climb a few stairs. Not accessible if you are disabled.

Excellent location and lovely appartment

  • 5 of 5

We spent with my husband and my 2 daughters a week in this charming appartment. It is typical "Parisian style" located in the most traditionnal quarter of Paris (Moufetard, Quartier Latin). Its location is central and a lot of tourist sites can be seen by foot at walking distance. The appartment is very nicely furnished in a style mixing modernity and tradition. It is also very well equiped for a family of 4. The owners are very nice and sympatic people, so is the staff managing the place. We loved it and our stay in Paris. Thank you a lot. Sylvia P.
