Stylish, spacious and flexible accommodation with king sized double or twin beds
Nestled within glorious unspoilt countryside on the edge of the village, this delightful, spacious, newly decorated and furnished, one bedroom cottage was probably built in the early 1800’s. The tranquil and sheltered, south-facing garden, bordered by a babbling stream is rich in flora and full of bird life including pheasants, woodpeckers and a resident peacock! It has been in our family for forty years having been bought by grandmother Lay in 1971, and been much loved ever since. Carefully and sensitively restored it has many original features and retains much character and charm. The cottage’s location, stylish but cosy interior and wonderful natural garden, make it the perfect place for a romantic break, walking/sightseeing holiday or just to unwind. Decorated in an elegant but simple style with vintage china and original artwork by local artists, we hope you enjoy spending time here as much as we do.
ACCOMMODATION
Downstairs
The front door leads into an entrance porch with space for coats and boots.
The “living” room with its solid oak floor, painted beamed ceiling, original inglenook fireplace and Jotel wood burner , is ideal for cosy nights in on cooler evenings. There is a stero with radio and a selection of Cds as well as digital TV with Humax and a DVD player. The Shaker style kitchen is an open plan yet well defined area and is well equipped with all the usual appliances including a dishwasher and washer dryer.
The sitting room leads through to a bright and airy sun room with a dining area and an additional sofa so you can relax and enjoy the garden even on a chilly day. In the sun room is a selection of books of local interest to help you get to know the area and maybe assist in planning your daily excursions. French doors from the sun room lead out onto the terrace where there is seating and space to barbecue or just relax and enjoy the garden.
Upstairs
The staircase leads from the sitting room up to a small landing space and then into the bedroom to the right and ahead into the attractive dressing room and bathroom.
The pretty airy double bedroom has views over the back garden and the fields beyond. The Vi Sprung bed can sleep two in king size luxury or be split into two separate 2ft 6” single beds upon request. There are two bedside tables with lights, plenty of wardrobe space, a selection of books and a radio.
In addition to the double bedroom is a dressing room with additional storage and large mirror, which leads into the bright bathroom with over-bath shower and electric shaver point. Both provide views over the garden and fields beyond.
OUTSIDE
At the front of the property there is a parking space for one car. At the rear there is additional storage in the shed for items such as bikes and surfboards.
The Garden
A major feature of the property is the sheltered, natural, garden which leads down to a stream bordered by fields and is full of bird life. This is a truly special place to relax and unwind.

About Jo Lay
This house has been owned by our family since the early 1970s. It was my husband's former home before our growing family meant we needed somewhere larger. We now live a few miles away in the next but one village. John and I both grew up in Cornwall, we know and love the county and all that it has to offer. Our children attend school locally and we take an active part in our community so are well placed to discuss areas of interest and things to do nearby. John has had a property business in Falmouth for over 25 years and I work as a designer/artist/mum and look after our holiday homes.
Jo Lay purchased this Cottage in 1972
Why Jo Lay chose Breage
The house is in such a lovely setting we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this Cottage unique
The delightful garden with stream and visiting wildlife make this a wonderful, tranquil spot and really quite a special place to stay. It is in a brilliant location as so easy to reach the coast on all three sides of West Cornwall yet not too far from bigger places such as Truro and Falmouth.

Lovely Cornish Cottage
Location
Ruth Dower lies in a beautiful valley and is less than a mile from the ancient and historic National Trust owned Godolphin House. Set within tranquil woodland its wonderful grounds are rich in archaeology, mining heritage and wildlife. The medieval garden, one of the most important in Europe, is currently undergoing a gradual program of restoration work. To the south-west of the property, is Godolphin Hill, from where you can see some of the best views in Cornwall, with St Ives Bay to the north and St Michael’s Mount and Marazion to the south. Its location, makes Ruth Dower an excellent base from which to explore the south west of Cornwall. The cottage is situated only a 10 mins drive from the ancient market town of Helston and about 25 mins from Falmouth and Penzance with their busy ports and bustling streets both provide plenty of interest to visitors. There are beaches, coves, fishing villages and walks to be explored and enjoyed on both the Penwith and Lizard Peninsulas which are only a short drive away and Hayle with its RNIB centre and the rugged seascape of Godrevy lie 15 mins drive to the north. Truro is approx. 45mins drive and provides excellent shopping with a wide range of both national and independent retailers and a good range of facilities, restaurants, bars etc.
