About Sally

We are avid travelers yet one of our favorite places to be is at our Bend vacation home. There is so much to do in Bend, especially if you enjoy outdoor recreation. We cross country ski (our knees don't allow downhill), fish, hike, bike and play tennis (walking distance to community college courts). As music lovers we enjoy the free outdoor summer concerts and the special concerts and events too. There is always something happening in Bend - Balloons Over Bend in June, nearby rodeos and quilt show, a wonderful community 4th of July, arts festivals... you name it. To top it off the weather is normally sunny!! Though we don't golf, there are some of the best courses in the nation right in the area.

Sally purchased this house in 2002

Why Sally chose Central Oregon

We knew we wanted to be in sunny central Oregon, but started our search in some of the resorts and the small town of Sisters. But the center of activities and the great variety of restaurants drew us to Bend proper and then to the popular west side. We were lucky to find property with views of mountains in 2 directions and backing to wild and natural scrub, which is owned by the Central Oregon Community College - but will likely never be developed (straight from the college president).

What makes this house unique

Besides everything noted above the summer also is a great time to visit the water slide and play area at the city owned Juniper Swim and Recreation Center. There is a year round outdoor 50 m pool (covered in the winter) and a 25 m indoor and also a indoor swing and children's pool for year-round use. Rock climbing at nearby Smith Rocks State Park is very popular as is boating at some of the many lakes in the area. The biking magazines name Bend as one of the top US locations, both for street and especially an extensive mountain bike network. Don't forget kayaking or floating the Deschutes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As written in guest book: "Thanks for sharing your home with us, though there is so much to do here we hardly spent any time at the house. What struck us the most about the house is how quiet it is - absolutely peaceful. For extremely busy people, this was the most excellent part of our adventure!

Very comfortable and convenient. When we go back to Bend we'll rent it again.

The property had everything we were looking for and more. It was close to town. I liked the area behind it. It was perfect for walking our dog along with providing us with the privacy we like. The house had all the amenities we enjoy. I liked the open space concept.

Weekend in Bend

  • 5 of 5

I had originally booked this property through Airbnb, but something went wrong with the pricing. Sally was INCREDIBLY accommodating of this though, and instead of asking me to sign up through a different vacation rental site (this one) she offered to just let me send payments in two installments through the mail. I was so grateful, and blown away by how willing she was to work with us. This was the only rental in the area that was big enough for our group, so it really meant a lot to us that she was able to be so flexible.

The house itself was perfect for what we needed! We were there for my 30th birthday, and really just needed a place to sleep. It was a little smaller on the inside than it looks on the outside (for some reason I thought it would be two floors), but has a very spacious completely open floor plan. My friends and I don't mind sharing small spaces, so it wasn't a problem for us at all. The beds and couches were all very comfortable, and the place was super clean. It even had coffee, which was amazing because we forgot ours!

The house is a five to ten minute drive from downtown, it ended up being about a $15 Uber ride for us, which was great! We were there for the outdoors, and the breweries, and almost everywhere we went, we were warned about how many DUI patrols Bend has (totally reasonable, people go there for the beer). So the fact that we could safely get back and forth around town for a reasonable price was perfect.

The one we had was on the first night. Three of us got there a little earlier than the rest of our group, and decided to take a dip in the hot tub after the seven hour drive. We made sure to keep our voices down because it was a little later than quiet time. We felt we were doing that just fine, however when the rest of our friends showed up (even though we still felt we were quiet) the neighbor came over and asked us to keep it down (totally fair, she lives there). So instead of staying out, and just trying to stay quiet, we just called it a night and went to bed. The neighbor emailed Sally threatening to call the police if it happened again, so we just opted to stay inside when we were at the house, so as not to disturb anyone. We felt it was a bit of an overreaction, but Sally was great at trying to get our side of the story as well. In the end it all worked out, and we didn't hear from the neighbor again (we do feel bad though!

We would all definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it!

Perfectly Bend

  • 5 of 5

Quiet neighborhood, a backyard butting up to wilderness, nice and clean interior with rustic décor - it is a perfect Bend house. Everything we needed was there. You can easily walk to nearby restaurants and downtown is just a short drive away. Would stay again.
