We've lived here for 23 years and it's been a joy and blessing. This house is a wonderful home and a creative environment . Most of all the art work you see was created here in this home and studio. Over the years I 've had many offers to buy this house, BUT...It's still a place we call home as we are still here quite a large part of the time. My daughter and I love this home, the trees, & garden. Sharing this house has brought many smiling faces and it's been a good & sweet-experience all around thus far. The house is large and now others get to enjoy it as well. I've had the pleasure of meeting some lovely people. Right now, I'm working on a children's book ,and when it's time ,I love planting flowers , working on various projects outdoors. The garden should have lots of colors by the time you arrive.(!) So, relax, read, write, or just bask in the sun. You'll be inspired as you enjoy the art in the house & the theater , and exploring the unique natural surroundings of this sweet town. Happy Winter,Spring, Summer and Fall !
Jussara purchased this House in 1989
Why Jussara chose Ashland
This is a house I fell in love with at first sight. The redwood trees , views and tranquil atmosphere are such an important part of this property. The garden is large considering we are right in town. It's quite an oasis. The waterfall ( looks as though it was brought from an old Chateau but the beautiful 100 yr old stones are are from an Ashland quary. the patio is a delight, especially at night under the twinkling lights & lanterns... and the sound of water fall. It's quiet being surrounded by so many older trees.
What makes this House unique
The house is very unique in that it has beautiful views from every window and there are many windows, and french doors that face either the garden or the mountains. There is plenty of light and I love having house plants ( though it takes more work- it's home away form home!) The sheets and bedding are organic cotton,(400 count) all natural materials.Cleaning products are all earth friendly. It's an easy and pleasant walk downtown. It's very peaceful and serene. It feels you could be any where in the world, there's a timeless feel to this wonderful property. There are many nooks and corners to explore. Under the redwood trees is one place to be, the porch is another, and of course the reading corner-and yes, there is a pretty substantial library if you forgot to bring something good to read. ( On a rainy day ... there are a lot of videos to choose from if you really want to feel at home)

Out of this world!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the most gracious homeowner for renting your one of a kind property. The house is even better in person than in the photos. Every nook of every room is decorated with the utmost care and attention. Just walking through each room was a pleasure...like walking through a gallery. This home is immaculately clean and has everything you need for a relaxing stay just a short drive down the hill to town. Safeway is very convenient for groceries. As the house is set high upon the hill, the views of the surrounding mountains are great. My personal favorite spot was relaxing/napping on the covered porch daybed. Utter comfort, peace and relaxation. This is my dream house. I wish I could pick it up and bring it home with me. The owner is wonderful and even brought us fresh peaches! She even went the extra mile to buy us some fans for our bedrooms (the house does has central a/c but we preferred the air movement of the fans for sleeping). All of the beds were very comfortable (king, 3 queens). Bathrooms are very nice, spacious and clean. It's just a whimsical dream farmhouse. I love it! Thank you for sharing your home with us. I wish I could own this house.
Healing Artistic Retreat for the Whole Family
Our family had a wondrously peaceful vacation at "Frieda's House" this summer. The beauty of the place was very healing and inspiring. Every room is a work of art, and yet somehow the energy of the house invites relaxation and ease. It is elegant without being stuffy or overly formal. The kids felt completely at home. They played outside near the big redwood tree for hours, inventing make-believe games and getting nice and dirty. We cooked our own food and sometimes enjoyed them outside on the patio by the waterfall. The blue kitchen is an absolute dream and I found myself wanting to spend many hours there. My favorite spot was the lovely side porch, where I looked forward to starting each day by drinking coffee and reading Shakespeare to my kids. Being surrounded by all the original art was another plus. It just added to the already wonderful ambience of the place. All this, plus the incredible performances at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, made for a truly magical family trip!
My family and I loved staying at this "Gorgeous Vintage Home." It truly is gorgeous, creatively remodeled, and graciously furnished. The rooms are large and comfortable, with comfy chairs & beds. Breakfasts outside on the patio with the waterfall in the background surrounded by lovely flowers was a delight, and I could have spent all afternoon on the porch looking out at the mountains. Everything was immaculate and the kitchen had all the equipment we needed. Our family felt so lucky to be able to enjoy this wonderful place and hope to return.
A True Delight and Relaxing Retreat
This home is spacious, beautiful and clean - a real gem with it's own personality. A great place for a family or several couples. The architecture of this vintage 3-story home is wonderful with large rooms throughout, sitting porches, french doors to bring in the beautiful outdoors, and a wonderful garden patio with a fountain. The fixtures in all the bathrooms have been updated, the hardwood floors are beautiful, and the master bedroom's 4-post bed, giant shower and luxurious soaking tub divine. Even more enjoyable is the original artwork throughout the house - every room is decorated with color, and every wall hung with the owner's beautiful art. We cooked family meals in the enormous kitchen all updated with marble countertops and a subzero frig. The dining room has a huge table perfect for gathering around or playing games, as well as a lounging nook perfect for naps or a good book. The living room is spacious with 2 couches, and has a TV and DVD player with lots of movies to choose from. The extra half bath on the main floor was wonderful to have. There are 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor - the master, and 2 other each with queen beds. There is a large bathroom in the master bedroom, and a full bathroom in the hall for the other rooms to share. The 3rd floor has a landing with a queen size futon, and a bedroom with a queen bed - so much room, we didn't even use the 3rd floor! The owner could not have been nicer or more helpful. There were even welcome treats on the counter when we arrived. It is in a great location on the west side of the main street, just up the hill a bit. We drove into the hub of town, parked for free and tooled around each day. We definitely recommend this property!
we spent a lovely time at this ashland home--we were welcomed with wine, cheese and crackers, and spent our time at the plays, reading and playing music in the backyard, on long walks, and eating each meal outside at the garden table.
it is a 20 minute walk to downtown, and the walk home from a play, under the starry sky is lovely.
absolutely no problems or issues--a perfect home. we had 2 couples and 3 adult children in the home!
My husband and I had a wonderful time when we stayed at this house! The owner is super sweet, hospitable and gracious....she definitely made our stay very special. We would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting a beautiful, creative space to get away or share with family and friends!
