Located in a private association, our 5 acre property includes a pond, woods, and wildlife in addition to the beautiful views. Take your pole on a short hike to Lost Lake (if you can find it!) and catch some fish. Access to the cottage is by a series of 5 sets of 16 stairs that lead up from our private parking area. Walk down to the shared access private beach and enjoy the best of the Lake Michigan beach, sand, breezes and waves. Take a walk on the beach for miles in either direction!

The four bedrooms are all upstairs including two with queen beds, one with a double bed and one with bunk beds. There is a second bath with shower on the main floor along with a washer and dryer. The main floor includes a full kitchen with bar stools plus a great room that includes an expandable table that can seat eight. Five sets of sliding glass doors bring the views and breezes inside. An expansive deck surrounds the cottage so you can take advantage of the summer sun no matter what the time of day.

Come and get away from it all in quiet seclusion enjoying the best that Lake Michigan has to offer. Or venture out and enjoy the many attractions that are near the Montague/Whitehall area including Silver Lake Sand Dunes rides, Ludington, Duck Lake, White Lake, fresh fruit picking, the Double JJ Rodeo, and the Michigan Adventure Amusement Parks.

An outstanding choice of golf courses includes Old Channel Trail, Double JJ Resort Thoroughbred Golf Club (Arthur Hills), Arcadia Bluffs, Manistee National, Grand View Golf Course and Hemlock Golf Club. The Hart-Montague Trail State Park offers 22 miles of paved bike paths.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Excellent Vacation Spot"

Our family had a great time. The cottage/house is very spacious, clean and has a spectacular view. We loved watching the sunsets from the patio with a cool breeze blowing off Lake Michigan.

The beach is a little hike but it is well worth is. The beach is clean and there were some great waves for the kids to ride.

Beautiful Property and Views

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at the house! The views are amazing and the location is quiet and peaceful. We stayed with our two children, my in-laws and grandmother. I will say the steps up to the house are a bit daunting, but completely worth it once you see the view. The trek back up from the beach is also quite long and steep, but again, completely worth it! It was a great place to stay and relax. I wouldn't recommend it if you have plans on leaving for town every day or several times a day. Otherwise you cannot beat the views and location. The beach is private within the association so there were very few people in the water and on the beach. It was just such a beautiful place to be!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the lovely review Heather, we are glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay. The stairs are a bear; but then I don't feel so bad eating the numerous "Brats" over the course of our stay :) Looking forward to having you all back for a future vacation!

Panoramic Lake Michigan Vista with Beach Access

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming up to this area for the past 10 years but had to find a new home this year. I came across this listing when I went hunting around and the description of the house caught my eye. Sunsets, 5 acres and beach access. That is what we were looking for. The house ended up being larger than what I glimpsed from the photos and so clean. What a warm comfortable place. We ended up having cold rainy weather but that didn't matter because of the house and the property. We had plenty enough room to spread out and when the sun finally came out we explored the surrounding dunes. My boys caught their first frogs. I thought the property was at the edge of the dune but it actually was set back a bit. Even though it was set back the view was breathtaking. Being set back we had a bit of a hike down to the beach but that was even an adventure. We stopped and looked at the flowers and bugs. We loved that it was a footpath and not stairs. The beach went on and on. Even though the weather was not the best we were able to view the sunsets from the deck when it was warm or from the house when we had cold evenings. We all didn't want to leave in the end.

The only drawback were the stairs from where the car was parked. We counted 80 stairs. By the end of the week we were pros and made it a challenge every time we approached them. Those stairs allowed seclusion from the outside world.

Thank you for sharing your house with us Nick. It was a pleasure doing business with you. Our family has absolute wonderful memories from our stay. We have already recommended your property to some friends of ours.

Relaxing Getaway

  • 4 of 5

The listing describes the property very well, including the many steps from the parking area up to the house and the trip to the beach. The house is very well maintained with a fully equipt kitchen and lots of linens. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives. We enjoyed pizza (try the BLT Pizza) at Big Johns in Whitehall. The trrp to Luddington was very nice.

Things to bring would be beach chairs and beach towels. Also, cell phone reception is just about non existent but there is a house phone. TV reception is spotty but there are plenty of games to play and some good movies too.

Relaxing Almost Off the Grid Week

  • 5 of 5

Cell phone coverage is spotty at best and TV is limited, but you're on vacation! The stairs up to the cottage are somewhat daunting but manageable (even for a VERY out of shape person like myself). My 8 year old counted 82 steps. The landing are a big help.

The kids loved the beach. Bring your own sand/lawn chairs for the beach. We had some lovely long walks and the kids enjoyed building sand castles with moats and channels. The dunes beside the cottage were also a big hit!

The house is nicely furnished and comfortable. Lots of homey touches like photos and throw blankets. The kitchen is roomy and well stocked with dishes and cooking supplies.

The owner was is a delight and very quick to respond to any problems.

We took a trip into town and enjoyed great pizza at Big John's. I'd never heard of a BLT pizza but would order it again in a heart beat! There was a nice park/play ground across the street which the kids enjoyed. We also took a daytrip to Luddington and enjoyed the shops, views, and lunch at Jamesport Brewery.

Your place was amazing! Great views and so clean, comfortable, and well stocked. My mother had a few bug bites and was grateful to discover anti-itch cream by chance in the medicine cabinet. We brought groceries with us and thanks to your amenities had no reason to go into town at all during our stay!

We appreciated the privacy and the timely return of the security deposit. The family photos were a nice touch. You have an endearing family and the fact that you built the cottage together is heart warming. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
