About Norma Walsh
I am an artist and I find constant inspiration in the west cork landscape. We have lots of family in Crookhaven and spend as much time there as we can. We restored the boathouse ourselves and it was a Labour of love.
Why Norma Walsh chose County Cork
It's so easy to chill out at the Boathouse. In summer with the doors open to the deck, very sheltered and private, or in winter with the stove lighting all tucked up by the fire.
What makes this Cottage unique
The boathouse is ideal for a relaxing holiday as it's tucked away behind the village of Crookhaven. Very private and a short stroll to the pub, shop and shoreline.

Quaint Boat House
We (two couples) had an amazing stay in the boat house. It is comfortable, tidy, and nicely decorated. The kitchen is a great size, and there are multiple bathrooms. I loved waking up each morning and checking on our neighbors...the cows. I would definitely recommend a trip to Mizen Head, which is a short drive (about 20 mins) from the home. We had a lovely meal at The Crookhaven Inn. Unfortunately, we did not get to visit O'Sullivans because they closed really early for some reason.
Thank you for taking the time to give us such a lovely recommendation. So glad you had a nice time. Norma.
great location and great boat house
Loved our stay here, wonderful place, enjoyed the local pub and the super friendly people, hope to come back soon.
We are delighted you had a good holiday. Thank you for taking the time to tell us.
The Boathouse Crookhaven
Attractive property with character, contemporary, clean and well equipped. A really comfortab!e, relaxing place to stay within a few minutes walk of the harbour, a couple of pubs, restaurant and small essentials shop.Twenty minutes walk to a stunning beach at Galley Cove. The whole surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful with lots to see and do. The food in the shops, pubs and cafes around about was of great quality but rather pricey and the service was not as warm as expected. However we really enjoyed the week and would consider returning in the future.
Great spot in glorious Crookhaven - close enough to harbour action but tucked away nicely
We loved our stay here in Crookhaven a great base from which to explore the wilds of West Cork. The house is small (for our family of 5) but very well set out and providing good useable spaces. We are an outdoors family and were out of the house for most of the day and living areas would be more of a constraint if more home based. As it was it was just perfect for our needs and tumble drier (as well as the Cork breeze) was perfect to get outdoor kit dry.
Crookhaven itself is a marvellous place with pub, small store, restaurants for varied budgets and a small collection of artisans open daily in season.
Lots to do locally with beaches including the stunning Barley Cove around the corner and windswept Mizen Head beyond; Schull provides more coffee shops, bars and shopping as well as water sports and boat trips and all the way with cracking views out to the Fastnet Rock.
Your review is spot on. So glad you had a good family holiday.
Both position and facilities of the property were ideal.
Thank you. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay
Homely and cosy.
The boathouse is an ideal bolt hole, in an idyllic village. It is homely and cosy, well fitted out and perfect for a short stay and the opportunity to walk and visit local attractions. Bridie, was very helpful, she lit the wood burner for us and made us most welcome. A little gem, thank you.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay.
The Boathouse has all the advantages of a quiet private rural setting with the village of Crookhaven just a short stroll away. Locally there are three pubs, a grocery store, craft shops and award winning restaurants. Twenty minutes drive away is the charming village of Schull with an ATM, laundrette, two large supermarkets and lots of pubs restaurants and shops. The nearest beaches, Galley Cove and Cockle strand are walking distance and both very child friendly. Collecting cockles, mussels and shrimp fishing are favourite local pastimes. Just a little further on is the blue flag beach of Barley Cove where a surf school runs for the Summer months. A short walk through the fields behind the boathouse brings you to Corrigeen. A private oasis of rocks and caves with a spectular view of the Fastnet lighthouse and the Islands beyond...Bring a picnic. The unspoilt natural landscape with its indigenous flora and fauna is very popular with artists, ornithologists, botanists, walkers and anyone who just wants to find the perfect escape. You may wish to go further afield and visit the Islands or just chill in the local pub with great food.
