About the property

A charming, well equipped cottage set in a beautiful and peaceful location

Lowes Farm is located in Grindon, a small village in the southern part of the magnificent Peak District National Park .  We are wonderfully placed for enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside but, at the same time, we are only 8 miles from Alton Towers for all those adrenalin addicts!  The farm is set on a hill just outside the village and, at just over 1000 feet above sea level, enjoys wonderful views in all directions, whatever time of year. It's a real landscape painter's paradise (take a look at our photo gallery).  Lowes Farm makes a fantastic base whatever you enjoy!

Walking, cycling or horse riding - Lowes Farm and Grindon have everything you need:  footpaths, bridleways and cycle tracks.  In fact, there is even a footpath and a bridleway at the bottom of our drive!  There are local walks to Thor's Cave and the Manifold Valley, and Dovedale and the beautiful Biggin Dale are only a few minutes drive.

Although Lowes Farm is in a rural setting we're in easy reach of 2 delightful towns. From Grindon it is just 8 miles to Leek and 11 to Ashbourne.

There are beautiful stately homes, such as Chatsworth House, and National Trust properties within easy reach. Or why not just enjoy being here on the farm, getting back to nature with the horses, chickens and sheep.

The cottage at Lowes Farm is adjacent to the farmhouse and has a terrace with barbecue overlooking the stables and paddocks and a very private rear garden that looks over the sheep and lambs in the neighbouring fields.

The cottage is centrally heated and there is an additional log burning stove for those chillier evenings or romantic moments! There are books and games in the lounge and a television with Sky freeview and a dvd player - or you could just relax on the sofa with a glass of wine and watch the glow from the log burner. Broadband reception in the Park is usually pretty poor, but the cottage has satellite based wifi to keep you connected to the outside world at a reasonable speed.

The kitchen diner is bright and modern with everything you need : electric hob and cooker, microwave and dishwasher.

The double bedroom is light and airy, with a very comfortable bed and adjoins the modern en suite shower room. Bed linen and towels are provided. If you are a cyclist we can provide you with secure storage for your bicycles.

Pets are very welcome but we do ask that you keep your dog on a lead around the Farm for the safety of your pet and our livestock. You'll find the Peak District is very dog friendly and there are details of local dog friendly pubs and restaurants in the cottage.

The cottage should provide everything for your stay and we try not to intrude on your holiday. However, if there is anything else you need, please feel free to knock on the farmhouse door and we will see what we can do!

PLEASE NOTE : Although the rates for the cottage are shown for a minimum period of 7 nights, we are always pleased to quote for short breaks and long weekends at any time. If the system does not give you the price for the period that interests you, please use the enquiry form to tell us your dates and we will get back to you with a price as quickly as we can.

Fantastic cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

A very warm welcome from the owners nothing being any bother. The cottage itself is well equipped and very comfortable. There is pleasant enclosed seating area front and rear of the building which is great if like us you have dogs. The views from one of these areas are fantastic. The location itself is very quiet however you are not far from all the Peak District has to offer. There are a number of country pubs are within a short drive and larger stores in the local town of Leek We loved it, our week flew by.

Owner's Response: Thanks Andrew! It was a pleasure to host you both (and the dogs) and you were great guests. We hope you had a great time on the rest of your trip and we'd be very pleased to welcome you back again if ever you decide to stay in the Peaks. Thanks again and best wishes, Nic and Bern

A superb cottage in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

Wayward Cottage is a comfortable, clean and well equipped cottage with incredible views in a peaceful setting. Its position is ideal for exploring the Staffordshire Peak District. We were spoilt for choice for good walks: Dovedale, Manifold Valley, Coombes Valley, Monsal Trail, Tittesworth and Rudyard reservoirs - the list is endless. National Trust properties Sudbury Hall and further afield, Calke Abbey, were well worth a visit - allow a whole day at each.

The owners, Nic and Bern, were very welcoming and extremely helpful. They could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. The horses, chickens and gorgeous miniature sheep were an added bonus, not forgetting their dog Scout.

We would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing break.

Lovely relaxing country cottage

  • 5 of 5

Secluded and quiet little cottage in the staffordshire countryside. Has panoramic views over the staffordshire peak district. Bern and Nicholas were very welcoming and then just leave you to get on with it. Ideal for visiting lots of places as there are plenty of national trust houses around the area. If your after a quiet lovely peaceful location, this is the place. Highly recomended.

We had such a chilled week. The setting is breathtaking and the cottage itself is just lovely. The owners let us interact with the animals on the farm and had great tips for local places to go and visit. Couldn't possibly ask for more.

We had a truly lovely stay here. Bad weather meant we couldn't do all the exploring we had hoped, but the cottage was very cosy and was an enjoyable holiday still. Welcomed with a bottle of bubble and some chocolate. Would recommend to anyone looking for a little escape.
