Guestbook comments from the owner

The house is ideal for relaxing and we had a good time. The area wasn't exactly what I had expected but we learned a lot about the neighboring villages and countryside. The weather was almost perfect and the sweatshirt and jacket never came out of the suitcase. The Property Manager was very helpful and friendly. In fact, everyone we met was friendly. The Riverside Inn serves a delicious dinner. It was great to get away and experience a different pace for a week.

Fabulous! We had Thanksgiving there as a family of 9. There was more than enough room for everybody with room to spare. The only drawback was the stairs to the beach are very steep, but that’s a function of the lot and not by design. Overall a wonderful stay!

Great Location in Downeast Maine

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house in Cutler for five days in mid-September. Beautiful house with large open floor plan and plenty of room for our Golden puppy to roam and explore the yard. The views were amazing from the backyard deck, as were the sunsets ~ gorgeous!

This house is ideal for families who want to explore the rugged and beautiful Bold Coast of Maine. If you are a camper you will not want to miss Cobscook Bay Sate Park in Edmunds township. If you love to hike the Cutler Coast Public Lands offers many miles of wooded and rocky trails overlooking the ocean. If you are looking for a wonderful mix of beautiful cobble beaches, rocky headlines, and spruce forests, then check out Bog Brook Cove Preserve off Route 191 in Cutler ~ Moose River Road Entrance. After a short walk along a pebble trail, the most amazing beach awaits you, tucked in a quiet cove. Our puppy claims it as his perfect beach...

When you find it, enjoy!

Just what we needed.

  • 5 of 5

Woodland Pointe never ceases to amaze us with its stunning sunsets, fresh/cool air, and comfortable accommodations. This is our 2nd trip in the last 9-years and to say that's too long in between visits, is an understatement.

We sooo enjoyed the local areas such as Machias (BlueBird and Helen's Restaurants, and the roadside flea market for some fresh blueberries and homemade jam). We even picked some of our own blueberries to make fresh cobbler. In Cutler Harbor, we grabbed a few fresh losteh from the wharf. The Cutler Bold Coast trail was magnificent. Don't forget your passport to visit Campobello Island and visit FDR's summer home, the beautiful lighthouse (East Quoddy), as well as black sand and stone beach. Lubec also has a nice lighthouse (West Quoddy). We drove down to Acadia (stopping at Schoodic on the way) and took a boat tour and saw some seals sleeping in the water, as well as some beautiful rocky (robust and just stunning) islands and another lighthouse.

The scenery and possibilities are endless with this area. Very laid back and the locals are kind and personable. If only we could live there all the time!

Wonderful location and cottage with an exception or two or three.....

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this out-of-the way cottage on Machias Bay! The views were lovely and the beach was perfect for swimming! Our dog loved it! It felt so private and peaceful there. This was our first visit to "Down East" Maine and we wanted to spend time visiting the small towns nearby and experiencing the great hiking trails. Calais, Lubec and Eastport are all charming and we found wonderful hiking just up 191 in Cutler Reserve. Cutler Harbor is a perfect photo op and there were gorgeous views everywhere we traveled! Don't miss the blueberry pie at Helen's, Quoddy Bay Lobster in Eastport, and Becky's Seafood in Lubec! And, right up the road is A 2 Z - a mom and pop store with fabulous subs and salads! The biggest disappointment was the cottage itself. When we arrived it looked as though someone had cleaned it in about 10 minutes or less. Although the kitchen and bathrooms were clean it just felt grungy! We found wet towels in the linen closet in the downstairs bath, another wet towel under the sink in the upstairs bath and a set of sheets almost wadded up and thrown on a shelf on the upstairs bedroom - where we slept because of the great view! Add to that the filthy stairs, mildewed outdoor cushions, dirty fingerprints on the walls and doorjambs and dog nose and lick marks all over the windows - and not from our puppy - it was a big bummer! I understand that rentals can get beat up but perhaps this lovely cottage in a lovely location could use a good top to bottom cleaning sooner than later! We left it neater and almost cleaner than we found it - with no dog nose marks on the windows!

A lovely property in a great private and peaceful location with incredible views

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet getaway in an amazing location and s lovely property then this is for you. The house is spacious, very well laid out and well equipped. The views from the rear are breathtaking and change constantly with the tide. Sunsets by the fire are a treat not to be missed.

There's a number of local hiking opportunities and it's well within range to visit Bar Harbour to the south and venture into New Brunswick, St Andrews by the Sea is worth a visit as is Lubec.

Seabrook Island, SC

A Delightful, Quiet Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

We chose this home because of its location down the coast, away from the crowds, and because the photos of it appealed to us. We were pleased with our decision on both counts.

Although there were only two of us, the house would easily accommodate many more comfortably. The downstairs is totally open except for one bedroom which can be closed off. There are effectively two living rooms which flow into one another. Each has two good sized couches to lounge in. The kitchen is well equipped and the first floor bath is small but adequate. We really had no need to use the upstairs rooms but they looked nice. The entire place is fairly sparsely furnished but that's not necessarily bad; it allows the renters to add their own things. There is a good supply of puzzles and games available to renters for rainy days, but we had none.

By chance, our rental week included the weekend of the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival. If you've never had Maine wild blueberries, you're in for a treat. They're quite different from the ones that grow on bushes. These grow on the ground and are raked up. They are small and yummy.

We also enjoyed rides to see lighthouses, a trip to Campobello and simply relaxing in the house. One afternoon, two red foxes ran right across the driveway.

Then there was Helen's restaurant also in Machias. It's open all day and it's reasonable. The meals offered are very good, including but not limited to the lobster. The only difficulty is that they don't take reservations although you can call in ahead of time and put your name on the list. We'd recommend that.

There were two things that disappointed us. The first was the laundry situation. The washer and dryer were in the basement, That's okay but there was no hand rail which made the navigation of the stairs a bit of a challenge, especially when carrying things. Once downstairs, while the machines were good sized and worked well, there was nowhere to put the laundry. Even a laundry basket would have helped.

The second disappointment was the access to the beach. There is a very long set of stairs which was a bit scary to us older folks. We are not beach folks, but if we had been, I would have been sad.

If we were young and spry, probably neither of those two situations would have bothered us. This is just a warning for others who, like us, might be intimidated by such things.

All in all, it was a memorable week in an easy-to-live-in home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback! We are glad you had a great visit but do regret you had some frustrations. We can certainly work on the handrail downstairs in the future and can make sure we have replaced the laundry baskets immediately.
