This traditional log cabin is perched upon 13 acres of lovely mountainside property. You will want to spend hours just hiking and exploring this tranquil wooded property. Across the street is a huge U.S. Forestry Service Tract for unlimited adventure.
This luxurious log cabin was built with hand hewn timbers; which were saw cut only for window and door openings. You have to see this log cabin in person to fully appreciate the old world craftsmanship. The traditional construction includes a stone stacked fireplace and hardwood floors throughout the cabin; updated with a wall mounted LG Flat Screen Television displaying over 200 stations and many other modern conveniences. This is truly a 19th Century style Log Cabin; updated with 21st Century technology.
This beautiful log cabin is centrally located in the Smoky Mountains between Asheville (50 minutes) to the East, The Cherokee Indian Reservation (30 minutes) to the North, Tennessee (50 minutes) to the West and Georgia (20 minutes) to the South. You can do everything or do nothing and enjoy either one! But, be careful, if you come once; you will want to come back every year! Indeed, you are likely to end up moving here.
We have put a lot of time, thought and energy into making this log cabin the ideal destination for a memorable vacation in the Smokies!

My name is Ken Fromknecht. I am a local attorney in Franklin. My wife Laura is a Teacher at East Franklin Elementary, North Carolina. We moved to Frankin from Stuart Florida in 1998. We love living in the Smoky Mountains and wanted to share that love with others by building a classic hand-hewn log cabin for family events and vacation rentals. When building and decorating the home we were careful to do everything we could to make the cabin a first class destination; fitting of the 13 acres of mountainside it sits on. While we plan to build more cabins in future, the first cabin is currently the only one and gives our guests a great deal of privacy and freedom.
Ken Fromknecht purchased this cabin in 2008
The Smoky Mountains has been our family's vacation destination ever since Laura was a young child. The Franklin Area is special in that it is tucked into the Smoky Mountains and yet it is central to many locations for day trips to Asheville, Atlanta or Pigeon Forge.
Our property composes 13 acres up to and including the ridge of the mountain that it is situated on. It is across the street from a large tract of land owned by the United States Forestry Service. As such, wildlife are sited frequently on our property. The drive to our property sets the mood with long views of various mountain ranges and lovely large tracts of land.
Our family of four and three dogs spent the week of Christmas in the Dancin' Bear cabin, and had an amazing time! The cabin was clean and spacious with quality furniture and a great atmosphere! We felt secluded, though it was just a short drive to town for food and firewood. the playground behind the cabin was perfect for our 5-and-4-year-old kiddos.
The location was extremely convenient to a variety of waterfalls, as well as the highway to Highlands (30 minute scenic drive) and Asheville (about an hour highway drive).
Ken was beyond accommodating and assisted us tremendously at the beginning of our stay. I would definitely stay with him again! Thank you for the priceless vacation and family time!
We love this cabin
This is our second time staying there and we will definitely come back
my family had a wonderful weekend getaway. wish we could have stayed longer. it was only me, my wife and small dog but we had plenty of room. there were 2 other bedrooms and an additional bathroom, along with a couch sitting area upstairs. the front porch is great with the swing and we spent a lot of time outside since the first cool front came through. very quiet and peaceful but also very conveniently located to downtown franklin and many other small towns. if you turn left out of the driveway we found a great hike called siler bald. the view was amazing. we will definitely be back. it was one of the best vacations we have had. the people in town were so friendly and the cabin exceeded our expectations. thank you so much for sharing your home with us.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Dancing Bears Cabin. Beautiful scenery! The grandchildren loved the playground. It was close to a lot of places and yet you were not right next to other cabins and that was one of the great things about it. We loved the front porch and my husband enjoyed rocking in the swing with the grandchildren.
We took our grandchildren and daughter to Larkin' Cabin so our grandchildren could see the mountains (no mountains in Florida!). The cabin was spacious and nicely decorated with all the amenities you could want. The secluded and quiet area was wonderful just to sit and rock on the porch while the grandkids could play nearby. The cabin is driving distance from many of the great mountain towns like Highlands, Cashiers and Bryson City. Ken was great to work with. We had a great time and look forward to returning soon!
My husband and I enjoyed our First Anniversary at this beautifully rustic cabin. We enjoyed every little detail as we relaxed on a secluded hillside. Our boykins loved all the space to roam. Mr. Ken was so great and easy to work with. We can't wait to come back to Franklin!
