About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)(4 post in photo replaced bunks)

This traditional log cabin is perched upon 13 acres of lovely mountainside property. You will want to spend hours just hiking and exploring this tranquil wooded property. Across the street is a huge U.S. Forestry Service Tract for unlimited adventure.

This luxurious log cabin was built with hand hewn timbers; which were saw cut only for window and door openings. You have to see this log cabin in person to fully appreciate the old world craftsmanship. The traditional construction includes a stone stacked fireplace and hardwood floors throughout the cabin; updated with a wall mounted LG Flat Screen Television displaying over 200 stations and many other modern conveniences. This is truly a 19th Century style Log Cabin; updated with 21st Century technology.

This beautiful log cabin is centrally located in the Smoky Mountains between Asheville (50 minutes) to the East, The Cherokee Indian Reservation (30 minutes) to the North, Tennessee (50 minutes) to the West and Georgia (20 minutes) to the South. You can do everything or do nothing and enjoy either one! But, be careful, if you come once; you will want to come back every year! Indeed, you are likely to end up moving here.

We have put a lot of time, thought and energy into making this log cabin the ideal destination for a memorable vacation in the Smokies!

About Ken Fromknecht

My name is Ken Fromknecht. I am a local attorney in Franklin. My wife Laura is a Teacher at East Franklin Elementary, North Carolina. We moved to Frankin from Stuart Florida in 1998. We love living in the Smoky Mountains and wanted to share that love with others by building a classic hand-hewn log cabin for family events and vacation rentals. When building and decorating the home we were careful to do everything we could to make the cabin a first class destination; fitting of the 13 acres of mountainside it sits on. While we plan to build more cabins in future, the first cabin is currently the only one and gives our guests a great deal of privacy and freedom.

Ken Fromknecht purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Ken Fromknecht chose Smoky Mountains

The Smoky Mountains has been our family's vacation destination ever since Laura was a young child. The Franklin Area is special in that it is tucked into the Smoky Mountains and yet it is central to many locations for day trips to Asheville, Atlanta or Pigeon Forge.

What makes this cabin unique

Our property composes 13 acres up to and including the ridge of the mountain that it is situated on. It is across the street from a large tract of land owned by the United States Forestry Service. As such, wildlife are sited frequently on our property. The drive to our property sets the mood with long views of various mountain ranges and lovely large tracts of land.

Beautiful Log Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Dancing Bear cabin is so spacious and comfortable. Large kitchen and living area allowed 8 people to eat and socialize with ease. But why stay inside...outdoors is even better. The front porch is perfect for coffee and deer watching. They frequented the yard daily while we were there. A huge fire pit with benches to sit was a pleasant surprise. We cooked hamburgers and hotdogs at the fire pit and relaxed around the fire.

The location is perfect for nearby waterfalls, gem mining, hiking.

We loved our stay and would rent this cabin again!

Found this cabin when searching for a place to stay when Hurticane Irma came to Florida. Ken made sure we had everything we needed. Great place to get away and still convenient to get to Franklin.

Loved It!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is such a wonderful cabin! I could have moved in.

We were visiting family in Franklin and needed a place for more relatives to stay.

I have to say that we really lucked out in finding this place. Everything was perfect! It's a great location that is secluded, but close enough to visit Highlands and Cashiers, ect...

The smell of fresh cut wood was on my mind as I entered. The hand hewn timbers are absolutely beautiful! There is a gorgeous fireplace too. The porch out front is awesome.

The 2 dogs that came with our group loved playing outside with all that land.

I didn't get to spend the nights here (the adult kids got too). But you can bet that next time we will be here!

Thank you Ken for all you did for us! You made it an easy process!

Dancing Bear Cabin -*RELAXING* Mountain cabin

  • 4 of 5

Very Nice Place to stay- Good Location. Great Front Porch to relax on. Inside was really very nice! Large for family gathering.

Small Downside: Kitchen items (frying pans, broom, outside grill, etc.) needs to be updated. Fire pit and swing area was overgrown and couldn't be used.

Would recommend to people coming to the area.
