Pet-Friendly Classic Maine Lake House

Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 1full bathroom, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 8, w/ private lake access

Come enjoy the best of Maine in summer! Our classic 3 bedroom, 2 bath home sits on a private wooded 4 acre lot across from Androscoggin Lake. The house is across the street from the lakefront up a small hill. The front porch is aprox. 350 feet from our own private 30 foot dock, swim platform and seating area along the lake's edge. (See pics for Site Plan) The path to the lake has stairs at the top and then gently slopes to the dock. The street is quiet with little summer traffic.

The house and surrounding area is relaxing and comfortable with plenty of options for activities. There are NO neighbors around the house on our side of the street, so children and pets have plenty of wooded or lawn areas to safely play and explore. Enjoy eating, reading or napping on either the screened front porch or outside deck. Androscoggin Lake is aprox. 8 square miles with a public launch and a town beach. On the lake there is great bird watching with loons, great blue herons, and eagles. There is abundant small mouth bass and trout for great fishing. Bring your own boat also, we have a mooring! We have 4 adult kayaks and 1 canoe with lifejackets for your use.

The inside of the house is charmingly rustic and yet modern. Our large living room is well stocked with DVD movies, books and games for family fun. There is a 40" flat screen TV, DVD/VCR player, surround sound system, and high speed internet. The eat-in kitchen is completely stocked with all the necessities a group would need to prepare daily meals. All you need to bring is food and beverage. There is a 4 burner electric stove and oven, large fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, double sink, blender, coffee maker, electric frying pan, pots and pans, dishes and spices. The kitchen table comfortably seats 6-8 people. There is a washer and dryer for your use. There is an upstairs full bath with tub/shower and a downstairs half bath. The large master bedroom has a queen size bed, bedroom #2 has two full size beds, bedroom #3 has two twin beds and a fold down futon. The front porch has a hanging dining table that seats 6-8, and a comfy daybed. The outside deck has a gas grill and table and chairs.

The immediate surrounding area, as well as the rest of central Maine is quite beautiful. Our 2.4 acre lot plus our adjoining 2 acre, and our lakefront lot make plenty of room for activities. The nearby quaint village of Wayne has 2 small stores, antique shops, galleries, and Tubby's homemade ice cream. The larger towns of Lewiston/Auburn and Augusta are both 25 mins. away with shopping and restaurants. There are may places within one hour's distance for hiking, antiquing, or golfing. Take a day trip to Portland (1 hour), or Popham Beach or Boothbay Harbor (1.25 hrs).

Fabulous Spot

  • 4 of 5

This was just our kind of house - a funky camp, not a fancy suburban dwelling. There was plenty of space within the house and surrounding area outside, easy access to the water, a wonderful deck and an amazing suspended table. Room for entertaining, room to get away. My only issue is that it is for sale so we can't start a tradition. Highly recommended otherwise.

Great House for a Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for one week in August with our 2 children (6 and 2 1/2). The house was spacious, beautifully decorated, and well equipped (beach towels, dvds, games, books, cooking utensils, etc...). There are many lovely spaces to sit and read, the yard is large, and has a great swing, climbing rope, hammock, and fire pit for s'more roasting. The walk to the water does require that you cross a road, but is not too far from the house. Also important to note that there is a town beach about a mile down the rode that was a good bike distance away. We went on many lovely canoe and kayak trips and saw bald eagles, loons, and a Great Blue Herring. The owners were responsive and helpful. I would highly recommend this place!

Lovely family retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect house for our summer stay with our two young children! The house is quite spacious and the rooms and decor are simply lovely. The house was well stocked with movies and games and there were many comfy nooks to sit and read and have quiet time. The surrounding land is well manicured and well tended to and my kids enjoyed the endless fun of trying to climb the rope on the tree and sitting in the hammock. We took advantage of swimming at the "lake beach" down the road as well as the canoes that were provided at the dock. Most of our meals were prepared on the grill and we enjoyed dining al fresco on the deck, something we cannot do at home. We would go back in a minute! It was one of our best family vacations ever.

Fantastic House!

  • 5 of 5

My family (2 kids and 2 dogs) spent a week here in July 2010. We all loved the house so much that we would consider renting again. The lake is huge! My husband brought his boat and used the mooring and the water skiing was fantastic, as well as late afternoon cruising. The town beach was only a 10 min walk from the house and my kids loved it.

We enjoyed the fact that the house was completely private with no neighbors on either side. The house itself had everything you could want, great kitchen, lovely front porch for naps or dinner, and great deck with hot tub!

Although I discourage TV on vacation, my kids did thoroughly enjoy the well equipped living room with PS3, and plenty of DVD movies.

The proximity to grocery shopping (20 min) was great also. We also went to Augusta and Lewiston for other activities including movies and shopping.

Perhaps the only downside were the mosquitoes, but it was July in Maine!

All in all the house was more than we expected and we would definitely vacation there again in the future.

This Leeds, ME home is great for a family vacation or a small reunion. The 8 square mile Androscoggin Lake has some of the best small mouth bass fishing around. It's also ideal for boating. We provide 1 canoe and 4 kayaks with plenty of life jackets, or bring along your own power boat on our mooring. All kinds of wild life can be seen including loon, blue herons, moose and even bald eagles. There are very few neighbors close by, making it very private. The towns of Wayne, Turner, Winthrop are close by with restaurants and shops. Monmouth has a great summer theater. Sunday River Resort(Bethel) is also close by with world class golfing. Portland is a one hour drive with plenty of activities and great restaurants. Popham Beach and Boothbay Harbor on the coast are 1hr, 20 min away. Or just lay back in the hammock or play horseshoes. There's also plenty of games, books, and DVD's. We call it Lakewood and it's all about fun and relaxation!
