Welcome to Pinchens Cottage. A former Ropemakers (workers) cottage close to the centre of Bridport, West Dorset recognised as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage is lovingly furnished in an eclectic style with many vintage finds from the local markets and hand-made soft furnishings.
Mr Pinchen, a Ropemaker, along with his wife Mrs Pinchen, a Twine Binder, lived in the cottage in 1863 with their 3 children, and now we’d like to share the space with you. A home from home.
A Ropemakers cottage with one double bedroom and one twin room. The cottage has a comfortable living room with wood burner and a newly fitted cottage style kitchen/diner.
Downstairs the front door opens onto a cosy living room with a wood-burner, plenty of seating, cushions and blankets. Books/games/jigsaws/DVDs are also available to use. The kitchen/diner has comfortable seating for 4 and is well equipped with oven, fridge, washing machine, microwave and plenty of storage under the stairs.
Upstairs the first floor has a twin bedroom and bathroom with bath and electric shower over the bath. A further staircase leads to an open plan double bedroom in the loft, with lovely views across the town to Boarsbarrow Hill and surrounding countryside.
There is a detached enclosed garden well away from roads which you are welcome to use.
Pinchens Cottage is a 10 minute walk from the centre of the friendly and vibrant market town of Bridport and nestles under Allington Hill & Coopers Wood in the village of Allington. Explore the Saturday morning market or watch the world go by in one of the many restaurants, pubs or cafes sprinkled around the town.
The stunning cliffs and beaches of the World Heritage Jurassic coast are a 5 minute drive away (or a 25 minute walk along the River Brit) at West Bay, and Bridport is the perfect base to explore the surrounding area from, with Lyme Regis, Dorchester and Chesil Beach all within half an hour drive.

Nicely presented, comfortably furnished cottage.
The cottage is on a busy road, so there is quite a lot of noise. A double glazed front door & some maintenance to the windows would help enormously, it would also improve the insulation for the winter months. As our stay was in a very cold December the unheated living room was not very welcoming. There was no fuel or kindling provided for the log burner, so we had to buy our own, luckily the shop was open when we arrived. Many holiday cottages have a log burner as a cosy 'extra' & guests have the option whether they want to use it but when it is the only source of heat in the main living room, fuel should be supplied. We also had a problem with the hot water which the owner managed to help with after a couple of phone calls. It appeared that no one had visited the cottage before our arrival to check that things were working, the cottage was cold, there was no hot water, loo paper or fire wood but the beds wère made & towels provided. A non slip mat in the bath would be a good idea!
Once we got the place warm we were very comfortable, it's nicely decorated with some interesting prints on the walls & there are lots of books & games to pass the time. One more suggestion; some open shelves with baskets in the alcove of the top bedroom would provide some much needed space for clothes.
A charming, well equipped cottage in an excellent location for Bridport town centre.
A great place to stay in this quirky and friendly Dorset town. The cottage has everything you could need for a comfortable stay , with on street parking if you're lucky. Neighbours are very friendly.
Thank for your wonderful comments Brian. We hope you will stay again.
Comfortable & cosy
Lovely cottage - great to have log burner. No TV as advertised.
Thank you for your comments Sally. We're happy you enjoyed your stay and the log burner! The TV is working now. I hope we see you again in our cottage.
Charming terrace house in good location
Lovely house, decorated nicely. 10 minutes walk from the centre of Bridport. Well stocked kitchen equipment, and we appreciated the games and wood burning stove.
Only downsides were limited parking outside and no door to the loft room, but these issues are reflected in the price. Parking was no big issue as there are spaces a couple of minutes away.
Many thanks for a lovely holiday - we would strongly recommend this holiday home.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We hope to see you again in our cottage.
Charming character-filled cottage, on more of a street than a road, quiet at night. Wifi worked, even the TV - against expectation - worked. Cosy with the woodburner. Would certainly make a return visit.
Many thanks for your kind comments. I hope you will visit us again.
