Lourmarin - 'One of the Most Beautiful Villages': The village has an outstanding Renaissance chateau. Fully restored, it is open to the public and houses an arts foundation which sponsors cultural events throughout the year. The village also has several art galleries and the best features of Provence: the café terraces, a great weekly market, games of boules, the bustle of village life. The surrounding hilly countryside is very pretty, and the back roads and paths are great to roam on, whether on foot, mountain bike or horseback. Within 10 minutes' drive there is rock-climbing, canoeing and swimming. There are also wineries, and various organic food producers to visit.
The Luberon Regional Natural Park: Lourmarin is in the Luberon Natural Regional park, which is famous for its beauty and history. The village lies on the southern side of the Luberon range of hills, at the entrance to the valley which separates the Petit (Western) Luberon from the Grand (Eastern), and is ideally placed for exploring some of the hidden valleys and 'perched' hill-top villages of the area. North of here lies the 13th century Cistercian abbey of Sénanque and its lavender fields, the villages of Gordes and Bonnieux, the ochre quarries and ochre-coloured houses in Roussillon.
Major tourist attractions: Within easy reach are the walled city of Avignon and its medieval Palais des Papes (Popes' Palace), and the beautiful spa town of Aix-en-Provence, with many shady sidewalk terraces and excellent shops. Other good day trips include Arles, with its Roman amphitheatre and medieval cathedral, and Marseille, which has opportunities for boat rides and scuba-diving, as well as the Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras.
You can also go westwards and visit the Camargue, a unique wetland nature preserve - a paradise for bird-watchers and nature lovers.

Lourmarin, has been designated by the French Tourist Board as 'one of the most beautiful villages in France'. Many writers and artists have lived here, among them Camus, who is buried in the village cemetery. The village is also well-known for its sixteen restaurants, including Reine Sammut's 'La Fenière' (Michelin one-star). Reine is among the talented few to win the coveted title of 'Best Woman Chef in France'. Lourmarin is much visited for its lively atmosphere and chic boutiques. It is also an excellent base from which to explore Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, the Luberon villages and the Camargue .
Other Activities: wine tasting, gourmet shops & restaurants, art galleries, lavender fields

About the owner: We are an Anglo-American couple with two grown-up French children. We have lived in Lourmarin for over twenty years, and have been running our vacation rental business since 1999.
Why the Owner Chose Lourmarin, France:
We fell in love with the charm of this seventeenth century 'little house', with its oak beams and little terrace. It is a lovely example of Provencal village architecture, and unusually for a village house, it is very light.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Our Petite Maison is in the heart of the village, but being on a square away from the main street, it is quiet and peaceful, a real haven. We love the fountain opposite the terrace, and the croisant and baguettes from the bakery just 100 yards away.
