About The Owner

We are local landscapers for over 30 years. This was our home until we purchased a track on land on the edge of town. Our garden center is on SeaIsland Drive just over the old bridge from downtown. We moved here for the beauty and water access. The history of Beaufort is so rich and is possibily the first settlement of europeans in the new world. Spanish Moss, Live Oakes, Palmetto Trees, and the rivers was breath taking.

Why The Owner chose Beaufort

Location, Location, Location

Its close to most everything, shopping, dinning, waterfront, historic district, Parris Island, Air Station, and minutes to Hunting Island Beach. The Sands Beach is a shell beach just 3.5 miles away with a boardwalk and boat ramp connected. Beaufort's waterfront park is on the intercoastal waterway right downtown, just 2 minutes away!

What makes this house unique

This is a free standing home with its own driveway. A large deck is connected off the side and back for enjoying the outdoors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This house is downtown Beaufort. Nothing states that its in the historical district. Its a nice little house in a good location. Its free standing with its own parking in a safe neighborhood.

We have taken the advice of a previous renter and performed a "Spring Cleaning": carpets upholstery,& etc.

Needs a little attention

  • 3 of 5

There is a very bad moldy smell when you walk in. I noticed two glass jars of shells in the fireplace with water in them. That was some of the problem - took them outside. The shower curtain in master bedroom had a lot of mildew on it - needs cleaning or replaced. The toilet seat needs tightening up. The tubs needs bleaching. There is a bad roach problem here. I think many of them are coming from the attic.

The kitchen doors need hardware repaired - drawers need attention.

The outdoor furniture is not as pictured. Iron furniture (one without a seat) and a white plastic lounge chair.

This location would be better if there was a little more house keeping done. Mirrors were dirty, floors needed sweeping/mopping from previous tenants. There was even a note left from prior visitors. King size pillows need king size pillow cases. Ceiling fan in master bedroom has exposed wiring and does not work. It would have been nice to have the ceiling fan.

The marble top in the living room was cracked in half prior to our stay - picture does not portray this.

It was nice to have a washer and dryer available. The master bed was very comfortable. The other big bed had blonde dog hair on it. Used bath bar in med cabinet had unmentionable hairs on it!

Bring your own coffee fixings, toiletries including shampoo and bath soap. Hand soap is available though.

The limbs need to be trimmed from the driveway. The limbs will scratch both sides of your vehicle.

All in all, I would stay here again.

Darling house in Great location in need of love...

  • 3 of 5

We just loved Beaufort, South Carolina, and this James Street location was perfect for a dog walk on the Spanish Moss Trail, or walking into town for BBQ at Q on Bay. We enjoyed having an entire house to ourselves with a full kitchen and two bathrooms. We appreciated the honesty of the previous reviews, the house is maintained only to its most basic limits. The sheets were clean, but the house is incredibily dusty, and is need of a super clean. (I removed the platic wrap off new lampshades which said fire hazard... remove!" and tried to put the bedroom curtain back up that fell down when we first attempted open the curtains in the bedroom.) Taking a bath in either of the tubs would have been out of the question. I loved, LOVED the potenial of this sweet property, and really hope that they don't let the nearly uprooted crepe myrtle tree die, as it defines the backyard. Since the owner runs a local gardening business this should be a no brainer. Almost everything that is moldy and unclean could be resolved with ONE day of intensive cleaning. This owner is super hands off. Don't expect a Welcome note with necessary info. We lost power at 7:30 one morning and we called, since we had no information about power companies or anything else... an hour later we called again... we had no electricity, no stove, coffee maker, microwave, frig, washing machine, internet, etc. We got a call back at 4 in the afternoon, asking if everything was OK? At four if everything WASN'T OK it would have been too late to do anything about it....

We are extremely self relient. We took care of the few cockroaches we saw, we cleaned the mouse droppings out of the cupboards before we put our own food in. We took out the garbage cans without needing to be reminded. We knew this because of the other reviews we read. But neglect about basic services like if we have electricity is NOT OK. We are not the home owners. This should have been addressed AT ONCE. Would we return? Not at the price they are listing for next year. We really want to return to Beaufort next year, but the reviews suggest that this property is in rapid decline, and the price is going up. Timely communication about the lack of power is not a courtesty it is an essential part of being a rental agent. PLEASE fix this place up, because it is so cute, and it could be a leader for the declining neighborhood.

Adequate but nothing to write home about

  • 3 of 5

My stay from 2/6 to 2/11 was unremarkable.

The house reminded me of a visit to one of my older relatives home. It's cute inside, nice private back yard and easy to find.

The location is not even close to where it is advertised. Miles away and on the other side of a very busy highway.

The furniture was comfortable.

The only bed worth sleeping in was the King in the master bedroom.

The other two rooms have a double bed and two twins. Neither option was comfortable.

The kitchen is adequately stocked with supplies and utensils but the appliances have seen better days.

There are no written instructions for anything like I have seen in other houses I have rented. The wifi code was literally written on a napkin but once you're on it the system works.

TV was a bit more difficult to figure out.

The heater works really well.

Very little communication from the owner. Very little.

If what you are looking for is a place that is decent with a good price point then this is a good choice. Otherwise, pay a few more bucks and upgrade to another property.

Stayed here for an entire week for my sons graduation from Parris Island

Close to Parris island and the drive was no problem at any time of the day.

Situated in a quiet neighborhood with a private back yard.

Dated interior but functional. Needs a little attention from the owner. Great heater - really.

Bathrooms could use some remodeling.

Overall pretty clean.

Appliances are old but they work. Washer and dryer are in an outside storeroom.

Comfortable for the four adults we had here.

Plenty of dishes, light on actual cookware

Close to everything but not writhing easy walking distance to downtown.

Map does not portray actual location.

Secure property.

Overall just an ok rental.
