About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Located in the exact center of California. Minutes from Yosemite (see below for specifics) and John Muir Wilderness, surrounded by national forests for hiking, dirt biking, 4-W driving, etc. Yet, 3-4 hours to San Francisco, Los Angeles or the Pacific Ocean.

Private home in valley of former summer Indian camp, then cattle ranch, and then dude ranch. Spacious, sunny and light with landscaping including lush lawn for children to play safely while parents watch from the kitchen or deck. Piano, ukele, bongos as well. There areas for volley ball, baseball and basket ball in the community open space area at the Club House.

Surrounded by National Forest, the community is composed of custom homes varying from multiple acres to 1/3 acre lots located along narrow paved roads winding through beautiful cedars, black oaks and pines. Directly accros the lane, 40 acres has been designated open space, which has tree-lined all year Whiskey Creek sandwiched between 2 beautiful meadows. Abundant wildlife and wildflowers. Morning and evening walks to the cascades and the Indian grinding holes is a wonderful way to feel the Sierra.

Mariposa Grove (Giant Sequoias) at the South gate of Yosemite National Park is 45 minutes away. Hwy 41 carries you to the Valley floor, 60 miles from the house. Historic Sierra National Scenic Byway only 5 minutes away. Both offering history, hiking, mountain biking, off-road vehicle trails/roads, fishing, hunting in season and swimming in the community's Whiskey Creek, or at tranquil Manzanita Lake (15 minutes) or Bass Lake (also 15-20 minutes away). Manzanita Lake allows non-motorized boats and Bass Lake the full spectrum of jet skis, water skiing, sailing and family house patio boats for day use.

Events include dancing and eating at Bass Lake's outdoor Jazz on the Lake every Friday night. Not limited to age. Wawona Hotel has a pianist that plays requests and Saturday nights holds a BBQ and square dancing for all ages. Other festivals and art events are continually provided for tourists.

Horse back riding is available at Fish Camp (35 minutes), groups hikes and nature walks are also available as well as tours of the Sierra Visit National Scenic Byway or Yosemite Valley.

For those strenuous hikers, the Scenic Byway is the starting point for a trans-Sierra hike to Mammoth. One day each way if fit. For more casual hiking or biking, the Scenic Byway offers less than 5-mile hikes to lakes or peaks showing the beauty of our many granite domes. Oh yes, Yosemite is ready to show you its grandeur too. 45 minutes to Mariposa's splendid trees and history; 20 minutes to historic Wawona Hotel and another 45 minutes to either Glacier Point or the Valley.

Snow sports' enthusiasts can enjoy the family friendly slopes at Badger Pass or the challenge of Sierra Summit. Both 1 1/2 hours away. Ski rentals are reliable. Snow shoeing or cross country skiing up Peckinpaw Road (Yes, Sam Peckinpaw grew up here). Historical cabins, wildlife and sheer beauty will be experienced. Snow does cover the Cascadel Valley, but cannot be depended upon. When it is present, people ski along the road and in the 40-acre open space. There are two large LL Bean Snow Tubes for guests and a snow park is located just beforer the south entrance to the Park.

Relax or be as busy as you would like. Great Mexican restaurant in North Fork, more formal dining at Bass Lake. You will surely enjoy visiting the little mountain town of North Fork for movie rentals or groceries. It takes you back 30 years. The Sierra ambience is waiting for you. Everything I have ever wanted is here in Cascadel and I would really like to share it with you.

Keywords: Roomy Bright 2-story Mountain House sleeps 10 fully equipped. 20 miles from south gate to Yosemite, 8 miles from Bass Lake. All year running stream, 40-acre common area, middle of historic natn'l forest.

About Suzann

This is my retirement home, but family demands required I temporarily move to Lake Arrowhead. It wouldn't be good to leave it empty so I decided to rent it to families to let them enjoy the same environment that my family enjoy. I am a professional and my career was in corporate tax with large corporations. However, I always had time to visit Yosemite or its surrounding to hike and backpack. My goal was always to move near Yosemite.

Suzann purchased this house in 2005

Why Suzann chose Cascadel Woods

Cascadel House is located in the most beautiful historic valley that has retained a secluded piece of the Sierra. Most Sierra foothills or historic area are overbuilt and very busy. We, in Cascadel Woods, have no commercial enterprises, traffic within the valley is only there for a purpose or is a resident. My first day after moving in, I walked across the bridge down to the cascades. Truly, I felt I was in a beautiful state park. Even the sounds of children playing brought me to that feeling.

What makes this house unique

Across the lane in front of my deck is a 40-acre open space area with a huge meadow, trails and an all-year creek. Across the meadow is a gravel/dirt road created well before 1880, but dedicated to the reigning county in that year. It is so peaceful to walk the community trails and the dirt road or hike the trail in the national forest that surround our valley. There is a two-volume trail guide just for horseback riders. Residents ride their mountain or dirt bikes up Autumn Road to explore the miles and miles of trails, Whiskey Falls, Shut-eye Peak and so on. As an avid hiker, there are unlimited places to explore. That makes me excited to begin my day.

In the winter, skiing at Badger is about an hour away; skiing at China Peak is about 1.5 hours away. There is ice skating in Yosemite Valley and at Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp. After a snow (which usually melts in a few weeks), residents make cross country ski trails and do some sledding. Cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and a snow park are available before entering the Yosemite south entrance as well. Imagine hiking through the snow in Mariposa Grove in the winter. The clear air and blue skies set off the big trees with striking definition.

And then the wildlife. Healthy in their natural environment not being fed by humans. We have a bear, lots of deer, a mountain lion, squirrels, quail, raccoon, and many birds. logs the wildlife and the history of our special area. Please visit it. You will be impressed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Although VRBO/HomeAway provided swift and superb service, some of us vacation homeowners were hacked. When we responded with "not available," the phishing people used that to inform prospective guest there had been a cancellation and then requested a wire transfer to rent our houses. I DO NOT REQUEST OR ACCEPT WIRE TRANSFERS! So, please never fall for that evil trick. Also, I believe most of us are covered for illegal schemes if we credit cards.

House is situated in a community with a state park campground environment. Approximately 50 steps from a tranquil creek bank. A great place to read or sip wine before dinner. Or, wade or swim in the deeper pools.

Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

It was the perfect house we could have wanted for our trip. The only downside was the internet, the owner should consider replacing the router. We had to reconnect to internet every 10-15 minutes. The kitchen had everything we needed, all the spices, food, coffee and tea. The jacuzzi in the master bedroom was a plus and we loved it. The hiking around Bass lake and surrounding was not so great, mostly burnt surrounding with trails being shared with ATVs and almost no view. We saw the best night sky right from the patio.

A lovely, well-appointed home near Bass Lake

  • 5 of 5

Owner was wonderful to work with, responsive and communicative. The house was light, airy, well-appointed and comfortable. We only had a long weekend to visit with our 11 year old daughter and her friend, but we enjoyed our time exploring the nearby creek (walking distance) and the two short-drive lakes: Bass Lake and Manzanita Lake. Both are great for kids/families. If you need to have a strong wifi connection, that was the one limitation of this rental property as the wifi connection was a challenge. But of course, when you're visiting areas like this, disconnecting is a good thing.

Great Home / Great Owner

  • 5 of 5

Susan was very helpful and provided a ton of information. The home on arrival was beautiful and felt very welcoming. Unfortunately on our stay there was a local fire near the Yosemite entrance. However we were still able to view the park and Susan went out of her way to provide updates on the fire's status in the area and risk zones. Being visitors this information was very helpful as normally access to this information would have required a bit of effort. With it we were able to plan our daily adventures with ease and had quite a wonderful experience. Looking forward to the next stay!

Owner's Response: Actually, this group really packed it in and arrived at all available tourist destinations quickly before any restrictions to Glacier Point and the Valley. I really enjoyed corresponding with the organizer who seemed like a kindred spirit. Her family enjoyed the outdoors and she the guide. I do hope they return.

Cozy and beautiful house near Yosemite and lakes.

  • 5 of 5

We went to Cascadel house to celebrate my brother's birthday. The charming house was furnished just like the website described it. Beds were comfy, living area relaxing and kitchen had all we needed and more! Suzzan provided excellent info such as directions, things to do and very important updates from begining to end.

My family thanks you Suzann for a wonderful time we had at your lovely house. Rebeca Hernandez and Veronica Salgado

Beautiful home that offers you solitude

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home. It was clean and well maintained. The house has everything you need - well stocked kitchen, enough towels in the bathroom and lot of beds for a large family or two.

The house is very close to Bass Lake, so it is a convenient location to rent if you are planning activities around the lake and within 40 minutes you will get through the park entrances if you are at the gates by 9:00 am.

The cabin look gives the house a very homely look and we appreciated that a lot. We enjoyed the solitude and sitting out in the patio in the morning before the day’s activities. It was a good break for us and we look forward to coming back.

Thank you again!!
