About Matt Gossen

Although we rent our home for much of the summer season, we also enjoy it ourselves a great deal. Our favorite times are definitely in the spring and fall when we get to enjoy the changing seasons. Even in the winter, we are in Union Pier at least twice every month. We simply cannot get enough of this amazing community and all the friends we have made there!

Matt Gossen purchased this house in 2007

Why Matt Gossen chose Southwest

Our home is very centrally located in Harbor Country and we love the easy access to the beach, the dunes, to restaurants, wineries, golf courses, antique stores; really everything that the area has to offer.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Good Life. It was our first time in the area and we plan on coming back in the future. Location was great- easy to get around Union Pier (walking or driving). It was also a short drive to New Buffalo and only 20 minutes to Michigan City and 30 minutes to St. Joseph. Went walking every morning to the beach and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. It was an easy walk, but if you have small children it would be best to drive. The house fit all our needs. There were several common areas to socialize on the bottom floor and three bedrooms upstairs for quiet napping. The kitchen and laundry have been updated and is very modern. Overall, we had a wonderful experience!

Surprise - house has been upgraded since pictures!!

  • 4 of 5

My family loved this house. We had 5 adults and 2 children, and there was plenty of space for gathering, as well as finding some alone time.

After walking through a very nice and super convenient "mud room", we walked into the house and straight into the kitchen...which has been seriously upgraded since the photos. It was beautifully done!

Also, the screened-in porch was huge and such a great space to spend time.

Matt was responsive throughout the booking and up through the stay.

Bonuses:

1) Upgraded kitchen - we are foodies, and spent hours in the kitchen each night cooking up delicious meals. The kitchen had everything we could imagine and more, including lots of spices.

2) Some of the first floor furniture had also been upgraded, which was a treat.

3) There is a large TV over the fireplace now

A few things you should know in advance of your stay:

1) the house is on the opposite side of Red Arrow Highway from the beach. It's slightly misleading on the map on HomeAway.com. We could walk in about 12-15 minutes, or drive in 3 (parking was easy since we got there before 11:30 each day). The highway is 4 lanes and there is no stop light at the intersection, and no sidewalk along the road the house is on.

2) there are no beach towels, chairs or toys (we knew this in advance)

3) the W&D was in the basement, and we couldn't figure out how to get access (simply ask in advance if you want to use it)

Thanks for a great stay, Matt!

Relaxing week with family at a lovely beach cottage

  • 4 of 5

well we did not pick the best weather week for the beach (rained 4 of the six days) but we had a relaxing time. We had plenty to do and the house was conveniently located, making it a short drive to practically everything. Be sure to go to the Farmer's market in Skip's parking lot. It was small but had everything and we picked up some great gift items. The Good Life house was very comfortable and had all the amenities one would need for a week's stay with teenagers.... The kids each had their own room and the kitchen was very well stocked...plenty of pots and pans to cook and the cabinets were stocked with all the spices and condiments one would need. The kids walked to the market each night for Gelato and we all enjoyed the local restaurants, the Red Arrow Road House being the favorite! I would definitely come back but I hope we get better weather.

Another wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home to Nashville, TN after spending another fun filled, peaceful, welcoming week at The Good Life cottage in Union Pier. Everything about the home says "glad you are here". Thanks, Matt, once again for making our annual trek to Michigan a glorious experience. Hope to see your place again in 2017.

Great home for family get-away!

  • 5 of 5

Our large group of 8 adults and 4 children had a wonderful week at Matt's home. It was our first visit to the area, and Matt was very helpful answering my many questions prior and during the trip. (He's probably the most responsive VRBO owner we've ever dealt with!) The home was clean, large, and well stocked with cooking essentials, towels, board games, books etc. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch in the front of the house. I would recommend staying at this home in Union Pier.

Charming and well-kept home -- perfect for our summer family reunion

  • 5 of 5

My family and I gathered at this charming home for a family reunion in September. We were there to celebrate my mom's 70th Birthday. It was perfect for us. It had plenty of bedrooms for our group of 11, and the three bathrooms added extra convenience for our large group. The screened in porch was the perfect place for a long-running Monopoly game or a morning cup of coffee, we spent hours sitting on the outdoor deck talking, and we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful beach, which was a short and easy walk away. The home was extremely clean and well-kept, and the owner was very accommodating and responsive to our needs. The kitchen was well-equipped and perfect for the family meals we prepared there. I should also add that Harbor Country in general is an idyllic place to vacation, with many wonderful restaurants, antique stores, shopping, canoeing, golf, and of course the beach. It felt like we were at the ocean! Our entire family will treasure this vacation for years, and we highly recommend this rental.
