(Aug 1-8, 2015) The location was beautiful. The house was not clean. We washed all the bed sheets before using them. We did the same with the dishes. The floor was dirty. Based on our experience since this rental, I would not recommend it.
Since we have only 5 star reviews from our renters we were very surprised by this review, posted over a year after the fact. This renter never discussed or left any note showing their displeasure. If so, we would have worked to make the rest of their stay as wonderful as possible. To be clear, we work very hard to make sure our renters have a pleasing, relaxing stay and we would never leave dirty linens or dishes.
GORGEOUS chalet! It was very clean, well kept and it has everything you need. We enjoyed snowshoeing on the lake, the neighbours were extremely friendly! The in-floor heating was a great feature. The peace and quiet was just what we needed. We would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be back!
Thank you Steve & Patricia !
Thank you, folks. See you next time!
We just spent a wonderful week away from the bustle of the city. This lovely house in the middle of the woods, opens up onto the most stunning lake. The water was delicious and pristine. The area is remote but everything we needed was a quick drive away in the next town. Northern maine is a natural paradise. If you like to hike, swim, eat losbsters, or canoe you will be in paradise.
Steve and Patricia were extremely helpful and responsive to questions and our needs. We would recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy the quiet and beauty of Maine.
Thanks, folks! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Pikku Suomi (Little Finland.)
We wanted to get away from our busy lives and enjoy some silence, sun, water, and nature. We got this in spades. The house is wonderfully surrounded by trees, giving you the ultimate in privacy. While we were there, virtually no one was out on the lake, so we felt we had it all to ourselves to kayak and swim. Moreover, this contributed to the quiet we craved. The house itself is wonderful: amazingly equipped with everything you need to settle in for the week, beautifully decorated, and immaculate. We definitely felt like "guests" rather than just "renters." There's a lot of great hiking/mountain biking/running areas close by and a trip to nearbye Easport avails some amazing seafood, whale watching (which was awesome), and street shops. Steve and Pat were wonderfully communicative and accommodating. This place is a gem. I'm sure we'll be back.
Quiet, relaxing, beautiful
The house was exactly as promised. Kitchen was surprisingly well-equipped for a rental and the book selection is great. There is good hiking nearby in the Refuge. The trip over to Campobello Island is really easy and worthwhile. We also took a drive along the Bay of Fundy in Canada. Owners were helpful and responsive, including mailing me a jacket I'd left behind.
Quiet and relaxing summer
This is a beautifully isolated cabin on the shore of Lake Meddybemps just minutes from Canada and a short drive to Bar Harbor or Campobello. Can't begin to describe the beauty and serenity of the lake and surrounding area. House is very pleasantly furnished and nicely appointed with most of the things you might think of (or not think of!). The lake was pleasantly warm even given the cooler nights (mid-50's for our trip). Size is good for 4 adults, although single bath (shower is on well, so pressure was only disappointing aspect of the property.
The owners are great, and easy to work with. Very forthcoming with information and prompt in all communications. Great little corner of the world up here!
Lake Meddybemps borders the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, site of one of the largest birding areas in North America and a premier spot to observe the fall migration, and vivid autumn colors! The seacoast of Maine is 40 minutes away, and you won’t want to miss visiting wonderful towns such as Eastport and Lubec where you can sample our world-famous lobster and downeast hospitality. The bold, rockbound coast is nearby and accessible by many public and private park trails. You can make day trips to St. Andrews by-the-Sea or Campobello Island, both in New Brunswick, Canada. Known for its hiking and cross-country ski trails, Campobello is the site of Franklin D. Roosevelt's summer home. Less than 10 miles away is the border town of Calais for shopping, antiquing, movies, and restaurants. Autumn features many local harvest festivals in the nearby small towns, where you can buy everything from home-made pies to quilts to locally produced art, crafts, and other products. Other Activities: Ice fishing, snowmobiling
