Creekview Cabin - Bright, Airy, Peaceful, NEW (built 2008)

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Visit our beautiful vacation home in Highlands, North Carolina! Bright and airy with lots of high windows: Rain or shine, there's never a dreary day at Creekview Cabin! Located at 4,100 feet, it's generally a good 20 degrees cooler than Atlanta or points south.

A great location, whatever your interests; only 7 minutes to main street Highlands, only 10 minutes to the Cashiers crossroads. Just off Highway 64, but on the back side of the ridge, so it's *quiet* and peaceful. Highlands is a fantastic place to vacation, with miles of hiking trails, interesting shops and superb restaurants in town, many golf courses, streams, waterfalls and lakes everywhere. It's been our favorite destination for the last 15 years, so we're eager to share it with our guests!

Three bedrooms and three baths sleep 6 comfortably, with room for another two on the comfortable sleeper sofa in the loft. (NOTE, 4/1/17: The sleeper mechanism is broken; we're trying to get a replacement, but may have to wait until sometime in May, when Macy's starts running trucks up there again. So sorry; the sofa sleeps one comfortably when folded up, but it isn't workable if you need two to sleep there :-/)

Insulation in the walls and between floors gives good privacy, makes it easy for three couples (or a family with kids) to share the space without feeling like you're living in each other's back pockets. Every bedroom has a 26" flat-screen HDTV with cable connection and a DVD player, and there's a 50" screen and home theater system in the living room - No fighting over who gets to watch what! (Upstairs master now has the 42" screen that used to be in the living room. Living Room TV is "smart", so you can log into Netflix or Amazon Prime from it; others are just plain old TVs.)

Get a house of your own with 3 bedrooms & 3 baths, and freedom to come and go as you please, plus a pet-friendly atmosphere, for *less* than you'd pay for a basic hotel suite in town! We'd stayed in hotels and commercial cabins for years until we realized what a lousy deal it was: Private cabins like ours make *so* much more sense!

Can't get *completely* away? We know the feeling! There's a nice, very functional office area in the loft, with a large-screen monitor and printer/fax/copier for guest use. High-speed cable modem and Wi-Fi are also included, and there's free long-distance dialing for the entire US. If you can manage it, by all means turn off the email. Sometimes though, staying connected can mean the difference between a hurried weekend or relaxing week away. - Or between a week and a month's stay. At Creekview Cabin, you can stay as close or as far from work as you'd like, the choice is yours!

Creekview Cabin is dog-friendly: We *love* pets, but let us know about yours first. Highlands is a great place for dogs, you'll find lots of other dog-lovers up here if you choose to bring yours. Our little Aussie *loves* Highlands and our cabin, we bet your pets will too! (Sorry, dogs only; we regretfully don't accept cats as guests.)

We have a local handyman (Vitaliy), who lives not far from Creekview Cabin, for any on-the-scene attention you might need. He's a great guy, and you can call if there's *anything* that needs attention or fixing. Vitaliy's phone number is in the welcome email we send out with each booking. My own cell number is 770-827-1993: Feel free to call if you're reading this and have questions about the property as well. (VRBO used to list owner phone numbers, but seems to have stopped doing so recently.)

We LOVE Highlands, and think you will too! Give it a try, you'll be hooked for life!

PS: Visiting friends in the area? Our place is literally just across the main road from the Culasaja Club and just down the road from Wildcat Cliffs Country Club and Old Edwards at Highlands Cove. Stay here, visit there; all three are literally two minutes away!

Why Dave Etchells chose Highlands

Highlands is a truly special area: We love the outdoors, and the miles of trails, streams, and waterfalls within easy driving distance. We also love the excellent restaurants in the area and great shops in town. We can go out and hike and get grubby enjoying nature's wonders during the day and then take a quick shower and enjoy 5-star dining at night. We've never found a place quite like it, and it's so close to Atlanta where we live: What a find! We're also dog-lovers; and our cabin is a place we can enjoy with Charlotte, our little Aussie. Helping other families with four-footed family members enjoy vacation time together was another part of our motivation in buying Creekview Cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

When we were looking for a place, the listing for Creekview Cabin said 'convenient to both Cashiers and Highlands.' We remember thinking 'yeah, right - that means it's convenient to neither.' We decided to check it out regardless, though, and for once the real estate agent's description was accurate. It's such a short trip to Highlands (about 7 minutes along the main road) that we don't think twice about going into town. At the same time, places in the Cashiers valley that used to seem like a long trek when we stayed in town or down towards Dillard are now really accessible as well. Lots of our favorite hikes are down that side of the mountains (Panthertown Valley and the Chatooga River area), as well as our favorite restaurant (The Orchard) and great grocery shopping at the big Ingles, just east of the crossroads. Thanks to the location, we're enjoying more of the mountains than we ever did before. (We've also rented to a number of people who have friends with places at one of the nearby country clubs: We're literally across the road from the Culasaja Club, and only a bit over a mile to Wildcat Cliffs, just slightly further to Old Edwards at Highlands Cove. If you'd like to visit friends with a place at one of those clubs, you literally can't get much closer than our cabin!)

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for such an incredible cabin. You don't miss much in the way of details! We got tons of snow, so we were able to go sledding on my birthday. Being from Nashville, TN, that was a rare treat for sure! The views were amazing and the cabin was extremely comfortable. The Rib Shack was a great lnch treat for my big day. All in all your cabin gave me the setting for a great birthday with my family. Thanks!

Creekview Cottage was everything and more than the photos and summary revealed. The owners' attention to detail was evident throughout the house. The babbling creek and cozy comforts of the screened porch are the extra Wow factor this home provides. The location is ideal especially if you travel alone. It was safe and secluded. Highlands is such a special place and I visit every year. I have even stayed in another property in Wildwood Forest but I have fallen in love with Creekview. Thank you David for your exceptional hospitality. I will be back and often. MKH 5/09/17

We loved this cabin in the woods so much - it was so peaceful and beautiful. The owner was awesome and made himself available any time we needed him which thankful was not often. It was exactly the perfect size for our family of 5 plus our precious pet. We never leave home without her and it is always nice to find places that you can bring your dog. I would highly recommend this place and we plan on staying here again since our daughter has chosen Western Carolina as her college to attend in the fall.

Our family had a wonderful time at this cabin and in Highlands. The cabin was clean and equipped with anything you would need. Loved sitting on the porch listening to the nearby water. Dave was great to work with and we'd definitely would go back. Great location, easy to get to places. My kids ages 10 and 7 also loved exploring in the woods!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much, Anne, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay! Yeah, the woods around there are great for exploring. I don't know if your kids found the abandoned road/trail that winds up the mountain from the base of our driveway, but it's a great hike, and there's a lot of woods to explore, particularly where it take the bend to go further up the mountain. There are also cool rocks to scramble on or just sit and take in the scenery, just past the end of the road at the top :-) So happy you were happy, we look forward to welcoming you back; sooner rather than later! - Dave Etchells

Best Equipped Ever – Like housesitting a relative’s house

  • 5 of 5

What impressed me most was that the owners left the house well stocked and showed confidence that their guests would respect their home. The kitchen was stocked with oils, spices, wraps, baggies and foils so that it was not necessary to go out and buy stuff that you would hardly use. There was plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, tall kitchen garbage bags etc. Usually I have found cabins mostly stripped. Naturally finding a situation like this, we were more generous with what we left behind for the next guests. They did not have a bunch of rules and regulations and signs saying “Do Not….” I guess Dave and Marti Echelles expected us to respect their home as we do ours. They have an office set up with printer/fax (with paper) and computer monitor located just outside the upstairs master bedroom. They even had a large supply of firewood to use on an honor system. Just easy to move in and relax without running around for small stuff.

Furnishings were all in excellent shape, more than adequate for comfort. Table tops and counter spaces were clear and available for use. The kitchen has all the cooking and dining equipment you will need. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The living room has plenty of seating, a great TV and home entertainment system plus a large wood burning fireplace.

Access to the home is easy on paved roads except for the last couple hundred feet which is still easy on improved gravel. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

Owner's Response: Hi Fred - Wow, thanks so much for the positive review! We do try to keep the place "move-in ready" as you described, and are so glad that you found it so! With very few exceptions, we've always been fortunate to have guests who treat our place as theirs; that's exactly what we would hope for, on both sides of the relationship. We're so happy to hear that you had a great time there! My memory isn't what it once was, so be sure to let us know that you're a returning, valued guest whenever you book again; we'll be more than happy to extend the 10% returning-guest discount to you. Thanks again so much for sharing your experience here; sharing the place with other couples and families like this is exactly what we had in mind, back when we bought it in 2008! :-) We'll look forward to welcoming you back in the future, thanks again for the kind note! - Dave Etchells
