Guestbook comments from the owner

Tsetting is surreal. The Mtn. view you don't want to leave! The Hot Tub under the stars or by day cannot be described! You thought of every detail in building and furnishing this great place.

So peaceful and renewing!

Quiet, secluded, slightly rustic, EXCELLENT

My Dad and I stayed here for 2 nights in October and had a great time! We used the home as a base for traveling in the area (Grayson Highlands, AT, Damascus). The hot tub under the stars was great! It was nice and clean. The owners were very helpful - I had no complaints! If I return to this area, I will certainly try to use this place again!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!!!

I would Never recommend anyone rent this house.

To say it is weathered and dated is an understatement.

The laundry list of issues with this rental are numerous

from difficulty taking showers due to broken shower knobs

to preparing meals with dirty and limited cookware.

The final straw is the hot tub which caused physical damage to

my skin due to Inadequate chemical.

Our family rents two cabins a year which always have hot tubs

This is the 1st time we have ever experienced the problems we

experienced with this rental. This is also the 1st review I have ever

taken the time to write a review due to the frustration & injuries my family experienced.

This house should be taken off all rental sites until it is completely remodeled.

Very private!

  • 4 of 5

We spent a relaxing weekend at this cabin. It was very clean and had everything we needed. Loved the hot tub!! Weather did not cooperate but we enjoyed the privacy as there is nothing around you. Only item people should be aware of is the steep and very rugged road to get to the cabin. Not ideal for a small car as it's really very rough. I would definitely stay there again!

Julia and Sarah

My daughter and I met here for a mother-daughter weekend biking and hiking trip. The cabin was a perfect size and the hot tub was so relaxing after our Virginia Creeper bike ride and the hike at Gentry Creek Falls. Leon, the owner, was quick to respond to my emails and had everything ready for us. He even suggested some great places to eat in Mountain City! My son and his wife want to bike the trail and I will definitely recommend staying at Black Bear Retreat.

Peaceful

  • 4 of 5

It is so peaceful here! Leon is great to work with and the "directions" for using the cabin were the shortest, easiest list we have ever had! The hot tub is absolutely awesome, esp. after the Creeper Trail! The place could use a little TLC, but was great for 2 married couples. The beds were comfortable.

AWESOME WEEKEND GET AWAY

  • 5 of 5

Perfect get away! No one around you at all! The hot tub was fantastic, it worked really well. At night you could see so many stars and just relax.

We rode the Virginia Creeper trail from Whitetop to Damascus through the Bike Station, it was a good time. We got to the top around 10:30 and made it back to Damascus by 3:30. It was nice to get back to the cabin and relax with the amazing view and some dinner. Make sure to call people before you get there- no cellphone service, which we enjoyed! (Saying that I must mention that there is a land line in the cabin.)

Leon was great! He was very friendly and helpful. I have recommended this place to quite a few family members and coworkers. We hope to get back to the Black Bear Retreat soon!
