Spacious House with a Beautiful View
I am a regular VBRO and Airbnb user and so have a wealth of experience with these kinds of services. So...The layout of the house was perfect for our group of three couples. The open concept floor plan was roomy and able to accommodate all of us as was the dining area. The location was perfectly located between Franklin and Highland and so gave us multiple options of where to go and what to do during the eclipe weekend we were there. The view from the eclipse was ideal. We stay at the house and viewed it from the yard. The overall view from the house and the deck and really all of the property was amazing. The ride up the dirt road was quite an adventure, especially at night but very doable with both our car and two SUVs. The communication with Edy was great and she was very responsive to our needs, particularly on check in day.
This is a beautiful and inviting property with wonderful mountain views.
The owners were accessible and answered the few questions we had quickly and patiently addressed , adding to the enjoyment of our stay. Take their advice and arrive during daylight.
Property was fine; communication, directions were awful
Hi. This is my first review and use of VRBO. I selected this property over another due purely to the title s/he had regarding great reviews. I had no idea that directions would not be provided and that gps and phone service fails within a mile of the home. I also thought the owner would be near the NC locale and not far away in Florida. I was also given the wrong number address for the property as it was clearly not the right one when we arrived (wonderful local had to lead us there and he said gps notoriously fails, so he was surprised we did not get any directions, especially since I emailed the owner and asked ahead of time). Luckily, at the wrong property (they own at least 2), we got brief phone service and called, but it seemed to interrupt her dinner. When the code didn't work at the home, she finally got that this was the other property and clearly inferior to the one we ordered. Then, the local man guided us back down the mountain to the right property. All this, with daylight dimming, had us so stressed and upset for having driven for hours to find ourselves utterly lost, that it marred our brief two-night respite from our school teaching jobs. The property was nice and we loved Highlands and the surrounding area, but this was very expensive (to us) and a big splurge, so we anticipated things being easy since the owner gave short shrift to my initial inquiry about directions and assured us VRBO would send all details. It was so frustrating and scary to be nearly dark and having followed all directions to ultimately be lost because the turn locations were not mentioned in the provided directions. Again, the property was good, but to be given the wrong address and incomplete directions, made our stay less than stellar. Highlands itself was awesome. I am grateful she answered the phone as the sun went down and we had the wrong code and wrong house so we would not have been stranded that night. I am also grateful for the local man whose door we knocked on and who was gracious enough to take us to the first wrong location and then the correct one. A+ Highlands and locals.
The instructions on how to get to the property and the address have been clearly posted on the VRBO Hospitality Manager section for years. Furthermore, I sent you those same instructions when you requested them. When VRBO confirms your reservation, they give you automatic access to the Hospitality Manager so you can have full access of everything we post for our guests' benefit and enjoyment of the property. These instructions are clear enough that all other guests have arrived at the house without any problems and subsequently given us five star reviews. Thank you for acknowledging that the property is "good."
Perfect Family Thanksgiving Retreat!
This trip will be one of my fondest memories!!! Arriving through the gorgeous woods I knew it was going to be a treat!! Our college aged son arrived next, then our daughter and son-in-law from Charlotte. We played games, relaxed on the deck (lucked out with the nice weather!) and enjoyed a perfect Thanksgiving meal thanks to a well appointed kitchen. Drove in to Highlands to shop and saw two bears in the trees alongside the road, exciting!!! My two teenage boys left their video games unplugged and we all spent hours exploring the nearby creek and woods. I could have stayed forever (the king mattress was better than my own at home!!). We will most certainly be back!!
Great Views,Private and well kept mountain retreat
The cabin was everything the owner said that it would be. We were arrived during peak leaf viewing season and the view from the back porch was great. Perfect location to view the mountains in the distance, take in the autumn color and view beautiful sunsets. The cabin is well maintained and well stocked. (the only thing that we wished that it had was a pizza cutter) The cabin is in a great location to relax and enjoy nature. The owner was very nice to work with and very responsive.
Thank you for a great weekend getaway! Left feeling refreshed and recharged. The home is clean, beds are comfortable, and the location was great - about 30min from one of our favorite restaurants, On the Verandah, in the Highlands.
Lots of beautiful waterfalls in the area.
