About the Property
Private waterfront, relaxed living. Summer evenings overlooking the Lake.
Each of its pine-paneled rooms has a view of the Lake. Four people would be a comfortable fit, but six is our maximum.
The Dining Room is the Front Door Room. When you step inside, the Lake itself greets you, your eye drawn out at once through the picture window, down the slope to the shore.
To the right of the Dining Room, two steps down, is the Sunken Living Room which has a huge antique glass picture window. Really! The Living Room is the Peace and Quiet Room, perfect for collecting your thoughts, concentrating on your reading, your writing. It is also a wonderful spot for listening to music on the FM radio/CD player on a shelf, or for playing your own music on your fiddle, your harmonica, your ukulele. If you feel the need to be alone, you can close yourself in (or others out) by shutting the door to the Dining Room and the one to the Family Room on the opposite wall.
The Family Room is just beyond the Living Room, two steps up. It is a spacious area with a high peaked ceiling, sliding glass windows, a sleep-sofa that opens to 2 twin beds for family or guests, easy chairs, a couch, an old-fashioned rocking chair, a glass-top table for dining,. The television is in this room.
Off the Family Room is a long Wooden Deck, your private aerie. In privacy, you can see the Lake below, boats passing by (people rarely look up). There are two chaise lounges on the Deck with a small table in between to hold your morning coffee, your evening cocktail. Plus there is an outdoor dining table and four chairs to go with it. The Deck is private enough for you to laze in your pajamas while you sketch out - or wind up - your day.
The Country Kitchen is next to the Dining Room, to the left as you come in the front door. A compact space, it nevertheless has a double-sink, lots of hot water, a gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, electric coffee maker, refrigerator, plus all the pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, gadgets, and under-the-sink items you could possibly need. The Gas Grille is just outside the door.
The Queen bedroom is the next room beyond the Kitchen. It is en suite with the Twin Bedroom and the Remarkably Spacious Bathroom. The Twin Bedroom itself has sliding glass windows on three sides with privacy screens that roll down. Both the Queen bedroom and the Bathroom have ceiling fans, whereas the Twin Bedroom has the breeze.
The Queen bedroom, the Sunken Living Room, and the Family Room all have baseboard heat.
All bed, bath, big beach towels, plus kitchen linens, are provided.
And a washer and dryer are at your disposal just next door on your way down to the Lake. Detergent and a carrying box are provided.
At the dock (shared with owner) are a wooden bench, a sun umbrella, a chaise, and deck chairs. On the shore are two canoes and two kayaks exclusively for your use. Life jackets of all sizes are in the Living Room closet. (Note: The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires you have life jackets IN your boat. A non-swimmer or a child MUST be WEARING his.)
Here’s the best part of this summer place:
The Little House is comfortably nestled in an open woods on a quiet, old-fashioned, country dirt road that begs the early morning walk. Traffic is local, neighbors noddingly (even chattingly) friendly. You'll feel safe there. A day or so after you've settled in, you'll find you have fallen into a spell: You'll realize you've been thinking not of your usual workaday cares, but of watching boats go by, of taking a swim off the dock, of surrendering to an afternoon nap out under the sky, re-discovering what relaxation really feels like. There's a certain magic in living by a Lake: There is nothing to do, there is everything to do. The beauty of it is, you don't have to do anything at all.

Week of August 23 will include Labor Day. There is a terrific fireworks display on the holiday weekend sponsored by the Lake Buel Association. The booms echo down the Lake, bouncing from Berkshire hill to Berkshire hill. It is awesome. You can witness the whole display from the dock.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Lake Buel is a jewel in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, Township of New Marlborough. It is near all the sights and sounds and scenery you've heard of that draw one to this area. The Little House is on the southwest shore of this Lake in a pleasant, largely summer community that has been in existence for way more than one hundred years. A piney forest, with its understory of deciduous trees and shrubs, is home to a multitude of small animals and birds, making nature-watching a positive delight. Lake Buel has three Inlets and is spring-fed besides, keeping the water continually refreshed (in other words, you won't get sick if you accidentally swallow it). There is also an imperceptible current that moves the water gently along towards the Dam. This is why the water remains so clean and clear year after year. If you are on the dock or out in one of the boats on a sunny day when the surface of the Lake is as still as glass, you can see straight to the bottom. Our cautious resident sunfish may perceive your footfall on the dock. If you toss in small pieces of bread, they'll rashly appear in numbers to feed, raising the curtain on a comedy of competition. You might even spy a harmless Wood Turtle trying to get into the act. Often, ducks swim by looking for a handout. Our side of the Lake is shallow. And in our Cove the Lake bed is sandy, just perfect for little feet.
