Overview

About the property

House, 4 bedrooms, + Loft, 4 Baths, 2 bedrooms are actually 2 room suites

Come to New Mexico and stay in this magnificent home in the heart of Taos. It's an easy walk to the shops of Bent Street, Taos Art gallery district, Taos Institute of Art, Kit Carson Park and many excellent restaurants. Skiing and ski lessons at the world famous Taos Ski Valley are a beautiful 35 minute drive away. Sledding, snow-shoeing, hiking and cross-country skiing will keep the non-skiing outdoor enthusiast busy.

Dinah maintains her studio above the garages. It has a separate entrance and parking off of the alley and above the garages. There will be no noise problems.

The huge kitchen has plenty of room for family cooking, an adjacent dining area and a stone breakfast bar for casual eating. The dining room was made for entertaining, with a long, elegant, white maple table and six armchairs (with extra chairs, ten have been seated). Soft lighting and five huge windows looking out onto the private garden and bird-feeding area make this room a favorite for game playing and bird watching. Additional tables and chairs are available for larger groups. The main house includes a large gas grill on the patio for outdoor cooking.

Main House: (Bedrooms 1-5) Sleeps fourteen (14). The living room is equipped with stereo, DVD player and a large TV. It contains over 4000 square feet of barefoot-comfortable radiant heat. A complete laundry room is off of the kitchen. There are a total of six sleep spaces and a loft with three twin size beds.

SLEEPING INFORMATION

Main House - 6 sleeping rooms & 4 bathrooms

(1) The master bedroom suite sleeps 2 in 1 or 2 beds. It has a wonderful feeling of separateness from the main living area. The master bath, in addition to a jetted extra long tub, has a tiled shower. The king bed can be separated into 2 twins.

(2) The 'Monk's Room' sleeps 1. It shares an entry/hallway with the Master Bedroom and has a pocket door that provides privacy. The bed has a twin-long mattress. It can share either the master bath or the 'Kate's Room' bathroom off the hall.

(3) The 'Crow' Suite sleeps 4 in 3 beds. For handicap purposes, it has its own private entrance with car access to the bedroom door. This suite has a queen-size bed and “banco” (a slightly narrow twin with foam mattress).

(4) The second room (pass through) of the 'Crow' Suite has a twin bed. For privacy, bi-fold doors separate the 2 rooms which share a handicap accessible bathroom and shower.

(5) The 'Kate's Room' sleeps 2 in one queen bed and has a TV. Its bathroom, across the hall has a bathroom with tiled shower.

(6) The Garden Suite sleeps 2 in one king bed or 2 twins. Its location off of the kitchen gives it separation from the other sleeping areas. It has a bathroom with shower. A sliding glass door opens onto the garden and gives this space an entrance and small porch of its own.

The main house loft overlooks the kitchen and sleeps 3 in 3 twin beds - great for kids, but plenty of space for three adults.

Totals:

Main House: sleeps 14 in 12 beds / 4 bathrooms

LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE KING BEDS BROKEN DOWN INTO TWINS.

This beautiful property is a delightful one-of-a-kind. Location, size and quality make this the ideal home base from which to visit and get to know Taos.

If you need even more room, I have 2 great studio apartments across the street.

About Kate Castillo or Dinah Worman

Dinah is a much awarded artist that has filled the house with artwork. She also maintains a studio in town.

Kate Castillo or Dinah Worman purchased this house in 1995

Why Kate Castillo or Dinah Worman chose Taos

I bought this property for its location within a quiet neighborhood in the Taos Historic Destrict. We lived here and loved the lifestyle of walking and being part of the Taos community. After an extensive remodel and kids leaving home, I couldn't let go of a house that was way too big for me. I decided to do short term rentals and hold our own family reunions here.

What makes this house unique

This is an artistic and beautiful home within easy walking distance to the main plaza and Bent Street with its colorful atmosphere and lots of shops, museums and restaurants. It is within a close walk to 2 parks to keep pets and kids happy. Wireless internet access, full laundry and a house not only full of art but, remodeled by artists with lots of small creative touches. Hiking and skiing are easy to get to and we live in the neighborhood so if you need help, it is nearby.

A huge house close enough to walk to the square!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third time we have had a family reunion at the Gathering Place. It is a great house-with room to spare! Dinah and Kate were great to work with and resolved a slight problem very quickly. The house is on a quiet dead end street where my 4 year old grandson could safely ride his bike. It is also close enough to walk to the plaza and the John Dunn shoppes-which we did more than a few times. The house is well stocked and really a comfortable place to stay. We will be back!

It was awesome!

This place was perfect. My daughter was getting married inTaos and we have a large family. The house was laid out so everyone had privacy and plenty of room. The kitchen and dining area were large and a great place where everyone hung out. The back yard was also set up for privacy and gathering. We absolutely couldn't have found a better place to stay. It was perfect!

Spacious home close to the Taos Square

  • 5 of 5

This is second time we have rented The Gathering Place. The beds and bedrooms are spacious, the bedding is comfortable, the kitchen is enormous and well stocked and the proximity to the square (only a few blocks) is great for when we wanted to get in a quick hour of shopping. Dinah the owner is very responsive and super easy to work with. This is a lovely home with very unique art and furnishings and plenty of space for parking.

A wonderful home for a large family or group to gather.

  • 5 of 5

I have a group of 7 friends who have stayed at this house now for 11 consecutive years. The location is superb and it accommodates us perfectly with several bedrooms, bathrooms and a large living room and gourmet kitchen. The house itself is a work of art. The artist owner displays her lovely pieces on the walls and the construction itself is unique with unusual touches around every corner. It is peaceful and quiet and yet walking distance of the square for shopping and eating. Our group initially picked this house randomly because we wanted to go to Taos. Now, we go to Taos because we want to stay at this house.

Overall, very good.

  • 3 of 5

Pros: The house is situated in a beautiful older Taos neighborhood of Pueblo-style architecture. It was remodeled some time in the past with the exterior done in Territorial Style with the interior done tastefully in a pleasing contemporary mode with woods and stones. There are a lot of windows that admit pleasing natural light, it is very clean and spacious, the kitchen is generously-appointed with an assortment of accoutrements for food preparation, the living room was comfortable and the TV worked well, there is a good selection of reading materials. The back yard was particularly inviting and we spent a lot of time there visiting. We were able to park 7 vehicles in spaces provided for this house. We walked to a nearby pub and another time to the plaza - both were a comfortable distance from the house. One individual used his GPS to find a running route and was out early each morning without being chased by dogs or threatened by traffic.

Cons: The 2 queen and 2 king beds were comfortable but there were not enough of these to meet the needs of our party of 12 adults (3 couples, 9 singles), several beds are more suited to children or teens. The loft was hot and unventilated and the fan was uncomfortably loud and inefficient, we did not know where to dispose of trash so inadvertently put ours in a neighbor's bin vs. the one for this house. Because we had problems with a toilet, the dishwasher, missing light bulbs, etc., we did contact the owners directly with an itemized list and recommendations to have a maintenance evaluation and repairs - for a comfortable stay in this house, we suggest that prospective renters confirm that the several problems have been corrected.

Despite the problems we encountered, we would consider this house again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the list of things needing to be fixed. We aren't always aware of problems and appreciate the notice. The beds are set up as stated on the website - all beds are normal size except one which is described as narrow on the listing. We do separate the King beds to accommodate singles - just let us know and they will be done before arrival. I have now replaced the missing binder with house tips and details. Again, thanks for the information and we have added a suggestion to please call one of the numbers given to report any shortages or malfunctions - we have someone on call that can answer questions or deliver needed supplies that may run out during your stay. You were a great group and we'd love to see you again. ALL FIXED!!!

Lots of room

  • 5 of 5

Great gathering place for our family that included grandparents, adult children, and cousins . Very roomy living room and dining area was well used. Well equipped kitchen. The yard and patio were pleasant for kids and adults. Easy walk to the plaza and plenty of parking space. The lighting system was complex but we figured it out.
