The Sandpiper at Shipwatch is located just an elevator ride away, making Kiawah’s West Beach easily accessible for a morning jog, an afternoon of fun in the sun or a stroll in the evening as dusk settles in.
Of course, there’s more to Kiawah than just the sand and surf.
Within a short walking distance you’ll find a golf course, tennis courts, shopping and restaurants – and historic downtown Charleston is only a 30-minute drive away.
Oceanfront With a Sense of Style
Recently renovated and professionally decorated with heavy custom drapery, hardwood floors, designer furniture and original artwork that ooze Southern charm, this villa has plentiful seating and places to mingle.
In the kitchen you’ll find granite countertops and ample cookware, though the dining room and living room are close enough to carry on a conversation.
Don’t be surprised if people sink into the comfortable living room furniture to catch a movie, or linger over breakfast at the intimate dining room table.
And, of course, we encourage you to kick back in a counter-height teak chair on one of the villa’s oceanfront decks with a cocktail in hand to enjoy the sounds and smells of beachfront living.
At night, retire to one of the rental's 2 bedrooms: a deluxe king-sized bedroom and another with 2 queen beds. All 3 beds have pillow-top mattresses, memory-foam toppers, Egyptian-cotton sheets and down-alternative pillows – oooh-la-la!
Outfitted in white and pale blue furnishings, these spacious bedrooms embody a sense of relaxation that – when combined with the sound of the surf just beyond the windows – is sure to lull you to sleep. Both have balconies overlooking palmetto trees with the ocean beyond as well as private bathrooms and 26-inch flat panel televisions (just in case you need a break from the landscape).
The Sandpiper also has free, shared laundry facilities located just across the hall – and we provide the laundry detergent.
The Sandpiper at Shipwatch is a popular vacation villa and only available as a Sunday-through-Sunday rental in the summer. If your preferred dates are already filled, consider checking out the 2-bedroom Treetops or one-bedroom Vista, 2 other of our properties available in the Shipwatch complex.
About Property Managers, Shawn and Jeanette Lawson (Kiawah Island Getaways):
Shawn's family discovered Kiawah in 1978 and returned year after year for two-week vacations. In 1985 we drove our VW Bug convertible to Kiawah and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.
In 1988 our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he spent the additional money required for the personalized South Carolina license plate 'KIAWAH' (which we still own today).
In 1992, we built our first home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During construction, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin - he arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station.
In 2001, we purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape (3563) and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the new found fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah. Because we really enjoy what we do, other Kiawah Property Owners noticed and we started managing their properties as well.
Our whole family loves Kiawah and running Kiawah Island Getaways is a true family-run business. We personally prepare each villa prior to your arrival - because we want your stay to be perfect. We want you to fall in love with Kiawah too...and we know you will!!
With a clean and fresh design inside, and generous second-floor balconies outside, the Sandpiper at Shipwatch is the epitome of a beach getaway. Outfitted with one king- and 2 queen-sized beds, this property is ideal for a family or 2 couples.
What a lovely villa! The location was fantastic, complete with stunning ocean views. Access to the beach was simply a stroll down the boardwalk. The decor was lovely, that rivals many 5-star hotels. What truly sets this villa apart were all the personal touches from fresh cut flowers to ziplock bags... everything was included which was so nice! We can't wait for our next visit!
A dear friend and I hadn't seen each other in years and wanted a week to relax and catch up. This Kiawah Island property was perfect! The beach is just yards away. If you open the balcony doors, the sound of the waves will lure you down to the shore. The beach is wide, perfect for sunning, surf play, shell collecting, biking, walking, and jogging. The somewhat rustic exterior of the building blends in nicely with the natural environment but doesn't do justice to the quality, beauty and comfort of the apartment. The online photos reflect the interior decor accurately and it is a clean, light-filled, tastefully decorated two bedroom, two bath apartment. It is quiet at night with great beds and bedding. There are TVs throughout and it has up-to-date entertainment options for DVDs, iPods, and fast dependable WiFi for music, movies, and online life. Shawn and Jeanette of Kiawah Island Getaways were very easy to do business with and they have thought of practically everything. There's a stock of board games if you encounter a rainy day. There are flashlights for nighttime beach walks. The kitchen is spotless and well stocked and the Harris Teeter grocery at Freshfields Village, less than 3 miles away has everything, including a gourmet selection of cheeses, wines, and local produce. There are several local fresh seafood and produce markets or stands within a 10-mile radius. For a lazy morning, there's coffee and great grits, pancakes, waffles right across the parking lot at the Southern Kitchen. The golf courses, restaurants and luxurious Sanctuary (a must for a sunset drink and safe alligator watching!) at Kiawah Island are readily accessible from the apartment. Arrangements can be made through the hosts for bicycles, beach chairs, umbrellas, even a private chef! It's an easy drive to Charleston and Beaufort for remarkable history tours, architectural delights and great restaurants, such as the elegant Hall's Chophouse in Charleston, Wren in Beaufort, or the casual but delicious fare at Roadside Seafood on Folly Road. And there's the mysterious Angel Oak, which certainly gets added to the list of everyone's most memorable trees of a lifetime. I would definitely recommend this property to others. Everyone was super friendly. I look forward to a future visit. This property was a wonderful backdrop for us friends to reminisce about the past and build new memories of drives down Sea Island roadways shaded by timeless oaks dripping with Spanish moss.
Convenient and quick access to the beach made this cozy and clean 2 bedroom ideal for our family trip with a little one. We adored the view and appreciated the well equipped kitchen. Ease of access to the bike path was an additional plus. Well managed by a group that quickly responded to all our silly questions. We will certainly be back to this spot!
This is our third trip to Kiawah with Kiawah Island Getaways. Kiawah is our family's favorite vacation spot! This time we stayed at "The Sandpiper at Shipwatch" and it was absolutely perfect! There were no details left out. The decor was new, fresh, warm, and inviting. With clean, modern furniture and beach views from every room, we quickly found ourselves able to feel right at home. We had everything we needed. It was exactly the way I had pictured it from the website. There was a notebook in the condo that gave all sorts of helpful information from places to eat, sights to see, and local island fun. The bedrooms each had incredible comfortable beds and a balcony that overlooked the ocean. A bathroom was next to each room and allowed us to have privacy in the open concept layout. Our condo was the perfect location. It was right off the main road with gorgeous ocean front views.
What a pleasure it was to spend our week in such an incredible condo and to cherish family memories both on and off the beach. Our days were spent sitting on the beach, taking in the views, and hiding from the stress of every day life. Our afternoons were spent biking along the designated bike paths and into the market for a refreshing latte or an ice cream.
One morning, when the tide was low and the wind was on our side, we managed to bike to the end of the island to see spectacular views and find a variety of seashells! We also visited a boating market where we purchased shrimp straight off the boats! Meals were spent both in and out of the condo, and both equaled up to each other. Overall, our week could not have gone any better, and we look forward to visiting in the near future.
The condominium was sparkling clean , beautifully decorated and well appointed. We loved the balconies and ocean views! Shawn and Jeanette communicated promptly and told us everything we needed to know for a smooth checkin and stress free vacation. Kiawah Island was gorgeous ! The beach is long and wide and the water is perfect for swimming and playing in the waves. We saw so much wildlife and had fun riding on the bike paths too! We can't wait to return, and highly recommend this property and Kiawah Island Getaways!
100% satisfied with the service and immaculate accommodations provided by the Lawsons. Literally a dream come true to return to Kiawah after 30 years and get to enjoy their gorgeous villa as much as the beautiful scenery from every window and balcony. 5 stars are just not enough!
