Kapakai - Hawaiian for "coastline" - you will understand this home's given name when you take in the stunning view of the Poipu coastline from the upper deck. This hale (house) is located on top of a volcano (extinct, of course) in a quiet local neighborhood. Grab a towel & walk down the hill to Poipu Beach Park and Brennecke Beach.
Excite your tast buds with dragon heart fruit, rambutan, lychee, star fruit and more. The galley kitchen with its practical and handsome finishes is a great platform for your culinary adventure. Many decorative plates, bowls and glassware provide for delightful table settings.
Step into the Spirit of Old Hawaii surrounded by colorful local artwork and distinctive island furnishings. The living areas unfold with a comfortable breezy living room ... to the dining space with a massive round table ... to an intimate conversation seating area opening onto the expansive L-shaped covered lanai ... then one more adjacent family room space with ocean glimpses revealed through verdant foliage.
Breathe in the fragrant plumeria and bright bougainvillea bordering the grassy yard which encircles this home. Plenty of room for youngsters to run & play - croquet, anyone?
The master suite on the ocean side has a queen bed, TV/DVD viewing. The master bath shower, floors and vanity are tiled in decorative travertine stone tiles.
The guest bedroom wing of the home features a king poster bed in one room and twin beds in the other, TVs in both. These rooms share a "Jack and Jill" bath with fun fish & cobalt blue tiles at the shower and vanity.
As the sun sets, the western view is a delight to enjoy the last rays from a memorable day in the comfortable lounge chair seating, or at the nearby table over pupus (hors d'oevres) and beverages.
Poipu Beach Park, just minutes away with 2 free parking lots, offers a large grassy area dotted with swaying coco palms. There are picnic tables, showers, restrooms, even a convenience store, restaurant and beach rentals across the street. There is a cove called "Baby Beach" where toddlers play in the sand and splash in the shallow waters. A few steps away in the clear warm water, colorful tropical fish swim beneath as you snorkel just feet from the shore. The calm waters and gentle waves are enjoyed by swimmers of all capabilities. Experienced surfers can catch large-breaking waves further out beyond the reef. Brennecke Beach, at the east end of the park, is renowned for body surfing and boogie boarding.

Lovely vacation home
We had a lovely time at this home; four adults and two teenagers. So spacious, and tastefully decorated without a lot of clutter which made for a very peaceful space. 7 mature plumeria trees on the grounds were a lovely bonus, as we were able to collect fresh fallen flowers daily to make fragrant and beautiful tropical trays which added to the decor. Plenty of room for us all to be together, or take a solitary break from one another with a good book. Plenty of towels. Bedding was just right, and lovely quality; note that the king bed is *very* high off the floor. Bonus for our teenagers was finding amazing giant snails and beautiful frogs on the lawn after dark...no need to notice them if you did not go in search of them with a flashlight several hours after sunset, but amazing to be able to see them if so inclined. Plenty of room to park two cars. Lovely walk to the beach. NOTE: The folks at the shop under Brenneke's are happy to help with booking boat tours and the like. Also, we had a lot of extra time on our last day there (10am checkout, and 10pm flight) so found Duke's at Kalapaki beach in Lihue...the best beach for snorkeling/boogie boarding if the surf is too rough everywhere else.
Location location and so much room!
We stayed at this wonderful home for 10 nights and loved it, great family space with main living area then a second one both with TVS. Bedrooms and beds are great, and the grounds are in perfect shape. Less then 10 minute walk to the beach and surf shop. We had 4 adults and two kids and it worked so well for us. And the upstairs deck for evening sun sets was the best!
The house is beautiful and the views of the ocean spectacular. There were books to borrow for reading and board games to play with the family. There were also lots of movies to choose from for a movie night. Plenty of boogie boards and sand toys. My son was stoked to see an Xbox but I wouldn’t let him play it. We are in Hawaii! We would stay here again if we return to Kaua’i. Julianna was very helpful anytime I had questions.
Excellent house for a group
This is a particularly well-kept house and grounds. There is an upstairs deck (built on top of the roof - pretty neat) that has a great view of the Poipu Beaches and coastline. Great place for mornings and evenings. The house itself is well laid out. The corner location is a bit busy and during the week with construction trucks, etc., it gets a little noisy. In addition, the walk is a bit longer to the beach than we thought it would be. Nothing much for adults but little ones (5 and 2) we ended up carrying back (uphill) too many times! The property managers are exceptionally good to deal with - professional and accommodating as they can be.
Aloha and glad you enjoyed this great house. The construction noise was due to the neighbor making some improvements on their property. I spoke with them recently and seems that they are done with the projects.
The walk up the little hill could be tough for young children but as you said not a problem for a healthy adult. There are 2 large free parking lots at Poipu Beach so a 2-3 minute drive is another option.
Thank you for the visit!
Lovely traditional Hawaiian-style home
While many people associate the traditional plantation house with Hawaiian style, to me it means board and batten siding, wood floors, louvered windows, ceiling fans, and deep lanais. This house has all that and more. The furniture and artwork reinforce the theme and the roof deck adds another dimension. Very romantic! In a more practical vein, the kitchen is fully equipped, the beds are comfortable, and the living spaces are well-laid out. The house is just as pictured and described. Plus, the Cherrys are excellent hosts. I highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in Poipu.
What a nice review! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. Juliana and I are so happy you enjoyed your stay at Kapakai. It is a special home in a special place. We do hope you will come back and visit with us again some time.
Best regards, Jim and Juliana
