About Michael Beauchemin

Owning Dune Nothing is a family affair. The property was purchased with two other brothers and my parents.

Sadly my mom has passed but her favorite times the last 20 years before she passed were spent in Topsail with family.

My parents had 8 children, needless to say it was complete bedlum on a family vacation. Most summer vacations were usually a trip to Cape Code or the beach with anywhere from a few to as many as eight or more kids (always a few tag alongs). What an adventure those days were...

Despite the cold New England and frequent rainy days, it was always a memorable vacation. (I'm not sure my parents always shared our excitement, especially on those rainy days at the beach.)

As each of us looks back on those crazy, wild vacations, what we value most is the memories. Our love of family vacations and get togethers still continues to this day. Our families have grown and on some vacations it will require us to have 4-5 houses with as many as 35-40 family members on vacation together....and yes with that many people we continue to build on those treasure memories.

We were blessed to have such wonderful parents that were willing to sacrifice, spend the money and put up with the antics of 8 children to create those treasured memories.

Michael Beauchemin purchased this house in 2004

Why Michael Beauchemin chose North Topsail Beach

Our wish for you is that you create your own treasured memories at the beach as our family has on so many occasions in Topsail.

This was the site of our first family reunion after all of my siblings reached adulthood and starting have families of thier own. The first reunion led to two of my siblings building homes in N. Topsail beach. After that the rest is history. We continue to use N. Topsail Beach as the gathering place for all our family reunion.

A large number of us meet down there throughout the year and at least every other year we have a major family gathering with Aunts & Uncles included. Our numbers have swelled to as many as 36-40 family mebers. What started off as beach vacations to Cpae Cod evolved into a family continuing the legacy of wonderful beach vacations that my parents, aunts, uncles children, nieces and nephews have enjoyed. The memories are countless.

Our family is spread out along the east coast. It has given us a central meeting place to create memories. All of the cousins have a chance to connect and really get to know each other as well as become very close to their grandparents.

What makes this house unique

The proximity of the ocean and beach to the house and the layout of the house. Most beach homes are set back as far away from the ocean as possible to try and protect them from storms and hurricanes. They also layout the home to take advantage of the views. Becuase of this the kitchen and living areas are located upstairs.

Dune Nothing has only 10-15 feet of walkway between the house and beach and only about a dozen steps to navigate to the beach. In addition the living area, kitchen and one bedroom is on the first floor. This is ideal for family members who are older or just have difficulty walking and navigating steps. It is also ideal for families with young children who need to run back and forth to the house frequently.

Dune Nothing

  • 4 of 5

Good stay except the work being done on restoring beach by our rental house was very disruptive and very difficult to cross over the 4 foot multiple hills of sand. I have physical limitations so it was impossible for me to cross over them to get to the water.

Wonderful Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year renting Dune Nothing, and it was as enjoyable as the first. Wonderful views, lots of light and kitchen space, and only 10 steps down to the sand and ocean! How can you go wrong?!? The realty company is so easy to work with when something breaks and they are very prompt to address them. Next year we will be going back, no doubt about it!

Dune Nothing All Week!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it! As the house is named, Dune Nothing, we did nothing except relax on the beach all week with our kids. This was their first time to the ocean and we couldn't have asked for a better house. The house was perfect for a family. I don't think the pictures do justice to how great this house is! Another reviewer stated there were problems...if you are pointing out problems, you aren't relaxing! This was a perfect beach house with only steps to the sand. Our 1 and 3 yr old boys LOVED the hose on the deck, the upstairs stayed cool all day, there was more than enough room for our group (4 adults, 2 kids), 5 min north of Surf City, plenty of parking, offered everything we wanted. We used the kitchen every night after picking up fish from the fish market behind The Crab Pot (this is the only fish market I'd recommend). We had to call the property manager once for a small fix and they were there within a few hours. From the booking of the house to turning in the keys at the end, I have nothing but positive things to say about everyone and the house. This is a hidden gem and we look forward to booking for next year!

Great N. Topsail House!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful house for enjoying the beach! We love North Topsail Beach - the water is warm, the beaches aren't crowded. It was great for shelling, swimming in the ocean (gentle waves most days), and watching sea turtles! We actually saw a mother laying eggs and a nest hatching in the same week!! This house is in a perfect location for people who just love the beach.

The house is even better than the pictures - as it looks like there are having been recent upgrades (hardwood floors make for easy clean up!) The bedroom set up is perfect for families.

We would stay here again and recommend it to anyone!

GREAT Location....but

  • 4 of 5

As far as location (proximity) to the beach....A++++

The house is nice but could stand some updating in areas. The kitchen sink looked filthy...upon closer inspection, it was just old and worn. Ceiling fans looked as though the blades were coming off and could stand to be replaced. I personally cleaned the air intake because it had so much dust on it. A fresh coat of paint would do wonders as well.

I don't want to say that it was awful....far from it, BUT, people like to feel at home when they go away and that was not the case here. Didn't feel like it was the right house for the amount of money.

Beach and porch were more than anyone could ask for.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. Yes, you are correct the sink needs to be replaced. Regrettably it is less than 7 years old and was not the right product for a beach rental. As with every off-season we invest thousands of thousands of dollars in updates and repairs. 7 years ago we completely updated the kitchen with all new cabinets, appliances, and yes a new sink. We also replaced all of the windows, doors and upgraded the AC unit. The past couple of years we have been going through the house and replacing all the carpet with new flooring. Finally every off season we do a full interior paint job of the house. This includes painting all walls and wood work. From the beginning of the season through the end of July, the house serves as a vacation home to almost 150 guests. As guests bring in and carry out their luggage for their stay it is very easy to brush up against the wall causing scuff marks, thus causing the paint to look like it needs to be touched up. At the beginning of the season we purchase a season's supply of light bulbs, air filter replacement and batteries so they can be replaced by the on-site property management company as needed. We purposely work with an on-site property manager who has authorization to make repairs and respond to any guest issues as they arise during there stay: Including any issues related to loose fan blades, cleanliness or anything not working properly. If for any reason a guest is having an issue, they should first contact the property management company to have it resolved. If it still remains an issue, they can contact me and I will intervene to help resolve it. Our goal is to make sure our guests spend time enjoying the beach and ocean and not worrying about the house. You are correct that the house is ideal for getting down to and up from the beach. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting out on the deck to watch the sunrise or the waves breaking against the shoreline.
