About Richard and Sue

We (Sue and Richard) hail from Southwestern Ontario and Trinidad respectively, and currently make Toronto our home. Our blended family of four children, all in their twenties, are now leaving the nest one by one. We are an eclectic group of avid skiers/snowboarders, swimmers, scuba divers, hikers, sailors, musicians, food and wine lovers!

Richard and Sue purchased this townhome in 2001

Why Richard and Sue chose Fernie

We vacationed in Fernie in 2000, and fell in love with the hometown feel and friendliness of this small and historic mining community which offered the best powder skiing in Canada.

Polar Peak is a magical place for us, nestled amongst the pines and firs at the Fernie Alpine Resort. By day it is a great base for the many activities offered in Fernie and the Elk Valley. By night it is engulfed by a wondrous canopy of stars so bright that you realize that the universe has taken extra special care to create this unique and unspoiled mecca. It is a place to re-balance, to pursue the joy of life (and its real priorities!), and enjoy family and friends.

Our favourite outings – apart from fabulous skiing (Oh... what powder!!!), hiking the Lost Boys Pass along the ridge to Polar Peaks or the trails around Island Lake Lodge, and thereafter enjoying a BBQ with friends. Farther afield, hiking Glacier and Waterton National Parks.

awesome place

  • 5 of 5

Condo exceeded our expectations. It had plenty of space for the 6 adults, and the two kids enjoyed the bunk beds and foosball table in lower level. It was convenient to town and an easy walk to resort. The owners were very helpful and provided a lot of good information about things to do in Fernie. There was plenty of parking for our three vehicles and neighbors were nice. Hope to go back soon.

Owner's Response: You're very welcome Ian. Please visit us again any time. It's unfortunate that there wasn't more powder during your visit. All the best.

Polar Peaks #4

  • 5 of 5

Polar Peaks #4 is very well equipped, better than most, and has nice appliances. Bedding, towels, etc are all top notch. We really enjoyed the hot tub after skiing hard all day. Communication with the owner is also better than most, everything was clear, timely and understandable. Richard has obviously been doing this for a while and has ironed out any kinks. It didn't hurt that our stay coincided with some legendary Fernie powder and afforded fantastic skiing.

Great ski trip

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four with two kids age 8 and 10, along with two sets of grandparents, had a great time at Polar Peak in Fernie. There was plenty of room for all 8 of us and even an extra bunk bed. Unit was well equipped with everything that we needed. Easy ski out from the hill and a 5 min walk back to the lift. Good xcountry trail just out the door to ski around the resort. We will be back!

Polar Peaks on the Mountain

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed our stay at Polar Peaks #4. The layout of the accommodation made it extremely comfortable with rooms upstairs and bunks in the basement with the common area on the main. Two bathrooms upstairs, one on the main, and one in the basement. The hot tub was clean and enjoyable after a long day on the hill. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed.

It was about a 5 minute walk to the hill (up hill) and we used it as a pre ski warm-up. We had fun skiing under the bridge on skier right passed the timber chair. Make sure the ice is frozen and watch out for the open hole just passed the bridge. It's small enough to jump over but big enough to fall in and get a little wet if you aren't quick on your toes. We managed to ski all the way to polar peaks. The location worked out great for us. Thanks Richard.
