About the property

Our spacious 3 bedroom home offers a unique experience of living in the round.

We are a Certified Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation. Join us in keeping with the wild and happy times we share.

Serendipitous Zen describes our spacious 3 bedroom home where living in rounded space provides a unique experience. Situated on a 1.5 acres of agriculture zoned land, the setting offers privacy and a retreat like atmosphere.

Wood interiors, lava rock & stone and natural fabrics combine in our custom home inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1938 Jester house. Most rooms are entirely circular. Elevated balconies look out over the garden with the ocean views on the horizon. We strive for environmentally friendly grounds hosting a pocket of wilderness, tropical edibles, an orchid grotto nestled in the banyan tree and some wildlife such as chickens and if your are lucky, a wild pig. Please be careful, while safe at a distance, wild is wild.

Ola Malu is located on the Sunset Beach side of Waimea Bay on Oahu's North Shore. We are mauka (mountain side) of Kam Highway and a short walk to Keiki Beach and Log Cabin's surf break. Keiki Beach is a wide uncrowded but also unguarded beach with plenty of privacy in summer and roaring surf in winter. A longer walk will take you snorkeling at Shark's Cove in the summer and Pipeline surf action in the winter. Driving or biking we are centrally located to Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach.

Old Hawaiian charm characterizes Haleiwa town which is a scenic 5 mile drive to casual dining and shops. Also within five miles is the Turtle Bay resort where you will find tennis, golf and fine dining.

About Somna

I am a composer/performer/harpist and have performed my works around New York City in such unlikely places as CBGB's (now gone, what a loss!), Mother, Arlene's Grocery, Slipper Room, and more recently at the International Conferences for Deep Listening in Troy, NY. Co owner, Anthony, is a painter of landscapes and more abstract large works and restores antique motorcycles. He used to build custom bikes in Hawaii and has won some awards. He also built the house.

Hawaii was the perfect antidote to urban living and continues to be so. Many changes are happening on the North Shore and hopefully the area will retain some of its rural qualities. Presently I reside in rural Central Pennsylvania and share my home in Hawaii with the lucky ones.

Somna purchased this house in 1990

Why Somna chose Haleiwa

Our home is owner built, it is quirky and unique. Our guests find the harmony and peaceful atmosphere a welcome retreat. We are happy to share it with kindred minded, hearted guests.

What makes this house unique

An experience in the round!

Great location, central to great beaches.. walk to one of the best!

A retreat like atmosphere, eco friendly!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much for a wonderful holiday stay in your beautiful home! We found that it had all the comforts of our own home so we felt very relaxed.

A buddy of mine and I rented this place out for week surf trip to the North Shore.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The owners were extremely polite and accommodating. I would definitely go through them again for a return visit.

This house exuded ambiance and personality. The tranquility of the house has to be experienced to be appreciated. It is honestly unlike any other place I have stayed.

Highly recommend!

Beautiful place a bit away from the noise and craziness of the North Shore but close to beaches.

  • 5 of 5

The property is as nice as it looks. Not new but well kept up and very spacious! We had five adults but really enjoyed the fact that we could be together but also had plenty of privacy. It would be great for a family since little kids can run around the yard or even find plenty of room inside to play. Well insulated from the noise of the highway but very close (3-5 minute walk) to the beautiful beaches. If you are looking for a modern hotel room right on the beach then this might not fit but it is an excellent taste of tropical breezes, quiet solitude and close to the beaches. Wonderful hosts, nice place and a great experience.

We enjoyed the location and the property. We would love to rent it again. Walking distance to supermarket and beach. It is a great hide away close to the beach. Very private with so much room. The house is a cool design layout that you never felt like everyone was on top of each other.

A sacred space in the beautiful north shore

  • 4 of 5

This was our second stay at the House of Sacred Circles and we were once again pleased with our accommodations and our host, Somna. If we needed anything while staying at the house she or her sister were only a phone call or email away with a resolution or helpful suggestion.

We stayed for over 10 days this trip and would gladly stay here again when we visit Oahu at the end of the year. This house is a special place, set up a private road off of Kamehameha Highway, tucked beneath lush greenery and big banyan and fruit trees. Guests enjoy homegrown coconuts and green mangos for breakfast on the beautiful porches and take in the sunrises and sunsets in comfort; there are great acoustics to amplify your tunes and good energies. Just a short drive, walk, or bus ride from some of the best beaches in the world, you have nearly everything you need to enjoy your stay here.

You can grocery shop at Foodland down the road if you like to cook for yourself as there is adequate fridge/freezer space and kitchen utensils, dining room and plateware, etc.. but there is also the option to just eat your way up the north shore at every single delicious food truck and pit stop restaurant along the way... :)

The north shore is the place to be if you want to escape to the country and still be on the beach in a few minutes; staying at the House of Sacred Circles will bring you back to nature and awaken your senses

Above average beach house

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this home for 9 days on our trip to the North Shore of Hawaii. My review would be very long if I wrote it out in paragraph form, so I'm going to write a pro/con list so I can pack more info in.

Pros: The layout of the home is spectacular. Lots of open space and a great view from multiple rooms. Lots of extra linens. Check the cabinets before you hit the grocery store as previous tennants have left condimnets, spices, and such to make your life easier. Well decorated. only 4 streets from the local grocery store and a short walk to three or four great beaches with awesome snorkeling, scuba diving, or just tanning! Nice yard. Quiet neighbors (no idea if they are renters also). Beautiful, relaxing showers and a deep bathtub. Close to several restaurants. Within a half hour to most of the attractions we were drawn to. Overall a good experience.

Cons: The home itself seems to need a little sprucing up. It's a very nice layout, but it seemed to be just a glorified beach house. It was missing the "luxury" it advertises. There is no a/c which would have been fine, but there are only three fans kept in the house, one of which didn't work. There is plastic sheeting on the roof which decided to cave in on our stay causing part of the ceiling to fall to the floor. A couple of doors would not stay closed which was an issue as we were traveling with a child. The bar stools fell over every time you put your foot on the bottom rung. The drier was broken for the first half of our trip. The land lord came in to fix it while we were away, but we were unaware they would be coming.... The microwave didn't work. There are several loose tiles in the kitchen. No locks on any interior doors, not even on the bathrooms. the beds are a nice touch, but if you plan on sleeping two to a bed, be prepared for your legs to be half hanging off. There are geckos everywhere. there were at least 15 in the home while we were there.

I would definitely stay here again. I would just want to be better prepared for what it is really going to be like. Imagining you're going to be staying on your own private resort and staying in a 25 year old slightly run down beach home are two very different things. It was relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, and had a ton of space and privacy.

Owner's Response: Understandably we all have different comfort levels. After residing many years in New York City our definition of luxury is relaxation, privacy, space, curves and natural elements where the patina of age is acceptable. The absence of locks on interior doors is mentioned in our guidelines with the helpful hint to politely 'knock'. Air conditioning is not necessary on the North Shore thanks to the cool breezy trade winds. The North Shore climate is naturally hospitable where fans or heating devices are rarely needed. The friendly gecko is a natural occurrence in Hawaiian households, they are harmless. The ceiling had been repaired the week before the mishap and perhaps was not done properly for an 8 inch section of plaster did crumble, the statement that the ceiling fell down is an exaggeration. We were lucky to have the dryer belt arrive so timely and had been granted permission to enter the house on the day of the repair. Our home has many custom features and idiosyncratic experiences that are well defined in our listing. It is regrettable that not everyone will enjoy it as much as we do.

Pipeline Beach, North Shore, Oahu

Amazing Home!

  • 5 of 5

I have only visited there...

However - in the world of North Shore 'get-aways' this home ranks at the top!

Wonderful garden-like setting with pleasant views out over the treetops to the sunsets and ocean.

The round-room architecture is also unique and quite an experience.

Top Notch
