Absolutely our favorite spot in the world !

  • 5 of 5

My family loves this vacation home, everything about it and the beach front is perfect for us ! We've stayed twice now and plan to stay again whenever we have the opportunity. The house is well equipped, comfortable, and there is a ton of space for everyone. We feel like we can really enjoy ourselves here and truly don't worry about anything. An added bonus is the early 10 am check in and late 3 pm checkout. It's really like having extra days because you get to enjoy the entire day. This time we were blessed with perfect weather and watched our mainland visitors jump in the ocean for the first time in their lives ! Thanks again for sharing your special home and beach with us !

Our Hawaiian Cabin Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The property and house were exactly as described and depicted in the photographs. Perfect for us, three generations including a toddler. We called it our Hawaiian cabin home, rustic ambiance, with viga wood ceilings and old fashion louvered windows to let in the sea breeze, a fully equipped kitchen, even with a popcorn maker, comfortable seating and beds, wonderful covered lanai with an ocean view. Lots of towels, beach chairs and toys and a charcoal Webber grill, fins but no snorkel gear. Nice landscaping with the house surrounded by grass and beautiful Hawaiian plantings. Meandering short path leads directly to the ginger sand beach where we watched sea turtles feeding offshore every morning and evening. We virtually had the entire beach to ourselves during the week, it was busier during the weekend, but it was fun to watch the locals surfing. Not a resort, not touristy, we absolutely loved it. Herb, the property manager, was easy to work with, very responsive and provided good tips about what to see in the area.

Owner's Response: Mahalo, I'm glad that you discovered and experienced our small piece of paradise. Our children loved coming out every summer, hanging out, playing on the beach, boogie boarding and chasing sand crabs at night. It became our place to recharge and relax - peaceful, quiet and private. Thank you again for staying with us and for your wonderful review. Herb

Perfect Family Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 adults and 2 grandchildren stayed for a week, and it was wonderful. We originally had plans to explore the island on a daily basis. However, once we got to the house, we all found it so comfortable and relaxing, that we rarely ever felt like leaving. The house had every amenity we could need, and was clean and comfortable. The beach was perfect and safe for our young grandchildren, ages 3 & 8. We would recommend this home to others and will definitely stay there again. Thank you Herb, it was great!

Perfect Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the house with my wife and our three year old son. The backyard casually slopes down towards beautiful Malaekhana Beach. The beach was serene, and never crowded. Even though all of the beaches on the island are considered public, this is as close as you can get to the feeling of having your own private beach. We spent our days exploring the north shore, and playing on the beach; building sand castles and body boarding. There are also lots of good hiking trails in the area. It was a nice change of pace from crowded Waikiki beach, and I would recommend it to families or couples.

Owner's Response: Aloha Andrew, I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay. The beach is most peaceful and private, glad that you and your family discovered how uniquely special Malaekahana is. Our daughters always enjoyed going out to the beach house and look forward to it whenever they are back in Honolulu. Thank you for your wonderful comments. Mahalo - Herb

Perfect site for our family camps

  • 5 of 5

Our family has a longstanding tradition of camping at Malaekahana -- in one of those rickety, old cabins run by Friends of Malaekahana. We were heartbroken when those cabins were torn down three years ago. Luckily for us, our daughter found this beautiful beach house, just a little ways down the beach from our old stomping grounds. And it is absolutely perfect!!! A previous reviewer described it as "a little run down; could use a makeover." We beg to disagree -- we feel the house is perfect in every way. It's not to supposed to look or feel like a hotel. It's a wonderful beach house where families can have fun together -- enjoying the beach, sharing meals out on the deck overlooking the ocean, playing in the beautiful backyard, roasting marshmallows in the fireplace, making jigsaw puzzles, playing games/cards and just enjoying each others' company. The house is also wheelchair accessible which allowed my husband to join us for our best camp ever. Mahalo! Mari's mom

Owner's Response: Dear Mari's Mom, Thank you for your kind words and making the distinction that we are a beach house vs. hotel. The many photos that we post hopefully convey that difference. We strive to provide a venue where families can enjoy quality time together in the beautiful ocean setting of Malaekahana. Mahalo - Herb
