Rob & Sophie Sparks
About Rob & Sophie Sparks
We started bringing a small caravan to the area 14 years ago and discovered the beauty that is Herefordshire's border with Wales. Returning more and more frequently year on year, we soon realised that we would like to make a break from the busy south coast and move to the area. When the house first came on the market, it took us a while to view, due to other commitments, but as soon as we saw it, we knew we wanted to make it our home. We moved in in Spring 2015, and started work straight away to bring the house and grounds back to its former glory. We have opened up some of the amazing views which can be seen from both the front and back gardens. Our home is also home to a wide variety of animals including our pony, goat, dog, cat, chickens and ducks.
Why Rob & Sophie Sparks chose Hereford
We fell in love with the property because of the way it is nestled on the hillside, with stunning views of the Black Mountains and the Cat's Back. The house is very spacious, and gives lovely views to the front across the hills and the balcony enables you to appreciate the amazing views to the mountains behind.
What makes this House unique
We feel that our house offers the chance for the guests to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life, with the chance for some amazing adventures on our doorstep. There is very limited mobile phone coverage in the whole of the valley, allowing you to escape from everyday life (we do have wifi in the house). The gardens can be enjoyed by guests (please be considerate of other guests) for you to bide away a sunny afternoon, overlooking the edge of the Black Mountains. We recommend walking the mountains to fully appreciate the dramatic landscape and wonderful views, and there are many walks we can recommend for little feet, as we have young children ourselves. Otherwise, take to your car and explore the wider area; the towns of Abergavenny and Hay on Wye are a must, which host an array of shops. Hay on Wye is known as the Town of Books and annually hosts the Hay Festival. The local area boasts many local producers of food, perfect for gathering up throughout the day, before returning home to the large kitchen to sample, or alternatively head out to one of the many local pubs or restaurants offering a wide selection.

An oasis of calm
We loved this place: charming home, kind hosts and breathtaking scenery. Very spacious and even larger and nicer than the photos suggest. Highly recommended!
Peaceful country retreat
Lovely and spacious home. Plenty of peace to let anyone unwind. Central for visits to Wales and we had a trip to Bath which was also easy to get to. Friendly hosts and would love to return.
We stayed here for a visit to Hay book festival. The cottage was very spacious and great value. The special feature was the location overlooking the black mountains just over the border in Wales. View from every window. Hosts were on hand if needed and very accomodating.
UPPER BRYN LONGTOWN
We had a fantastic stay in the cottage and the place was immaculate with
very spacious rooms etc.
There are fantastic views all around and the place is very peaceful.
Rob and Sophie were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome.
We would love to go back for another stay when we can.
Thank you very much,
Jill and Geoff
Great place to stay - lovely views and location surrounded by countryside and mountains. Really comfortable and warm, and very friendly hosts.
Wonderful short stay near the Welsh border!
We had a wonderful couple days staying at this house. The scenery and surrounding area was gorgeous and so peaceful. The owners were helpful and friendly. We hope to stay again in the future!
The property is situated in a beautiful, rural area. We have a pub and well stocked village stores one mile away. There are amazing walks on the doorstep, either enjoying the rolling hills of England, or venturing into the mountains of Wales. Our nearest town is Abergavenny, 13 miles away, or Hereford which is 14 miles away. Hay on Wye, the town of books, is about 16 miles away and well worth a visit, and the journey to and from provide some spectacular views. Walking, Mountaineering, Canoeing, Fishing, Pony-trekking, Castle exploring and Mountain biking are just some of the activities available nearby.
