Our wonderful Maine visit.

  • 4 of 5

We loved this little chalet. We affectionately referred to it as the "Tiltin Hiltin" because it leans a bit due to foundation settling. I didn't give it 5 stars because it is not a five star hotel. It is a comfortable, warm, welcoming setting with a beautiful view of the bay. Barbara was welcoming and friendly, as were all the other guests in the cabins. You can see the cabins from the chalet, but they are in no way intrusive. We loved the laid back atmosphere, and chilling out in the evenings with our fire. We dug many clams and gathered mussels. We always had the beach to ourselves. Our visit to Acadia was nothing less than breathtaking. Such a wonderful visit I didn't want to leave!!

Great Location

  • 3 of 5

The chalet was lovely, clean and inviting upon our arrival. Barbara, the owner, was very responsive when we had a problem with ants in the bathroom and it was taken care of that day. We loved the proximity to the water, the views and the ease of getting around and seeing both Schoodic (part of Acadia) and Acadia located on Mount Desert Island. We had a concern about the stove being placed next to a wall and there was already damage from heat with no protective barrier on the wall- the paint was bubbling! So of course we never used the burners next to the wall. Also the mattress in our bedroom was very uncomfortable. My husband complained of a spring in his back each night and the mattress had a dip in the center- I felt that the whole bed was not level (or the house itself was not level), and I felt like i kept rolling into the middle. The kids slept in the loft and enjoyed it. The bathroom door wouldn't stay closed, i think because the whole house is not level. There was a rock that was there and we used it to keep the door shut-- it took us a while to figure that out and one of us was surprised by the door opening while in the shower that first night! : / We enjoyed the deck and the firepit on the lawn. It was overall a great vacation, but the house had minor issues that could be fixed.- but the stove could potentially be a real fire hazard if someone used those burners!!

Owner's Response: We appreciate all comments and try to address any concerns as soon as we are notified. The door needed a little adjustment which was due to this years heavy frost heaves. But all in all quick fixes as well as replacing a mattress and fire wall by stove. We are happy to help our guests have a enjoyable vacation!

Peaceful

  • 4 of 5

We loved the place. Very near the beach, where I walked every morning. Great hikes very close by: Tunk , Black and Schoodic mountains. Lots of lakes and the ocean to kayak. Close enough to Ellsworth for small trips to re-supply and see art for sale.

just stay here, already! won't ya?

  • 5 of 5

stay here!!! we were four adults/two couples and we stayed in the chalet at Flanders bay cabins! it was perfect! plenty of room, and very well kept (I'm a clean freak) it was like being home, but away! comfortable couch, chairs and beds, and a nice kitchen table too. also, the kitchen is stocked with everything you need for cooking! Barbra was fantastic and a wealth of info for local eats and places to go.... we also found this to be a perfect location between mt. desert isle, and schoodic point (both parts of Acadia) if you're looking for somewhere homey to stay, this is it!!! we will certainly be back.... (wish it was now!!!) :)

A gloriously beautiful spot with great activities

  • 5 of 5

Accommodations were simple, clean and comfortable. Owners were helpful and had many suggestions for activities. With Schoodic peninsula nearby, many quaint Downeast fishing towns a short drive away, and central to 2 parts of Acadia, Bar Harbor, well as miles of pristine shoreline, it's just an ideal place to visit and a relaxing place to stay. I have recommended it to family and friends and have been returning each summer for many years, always stating with the Shanahans.

Owner's Response: Open fields surrounds the rentals for plenty of walking and just relaxing on the porch. Direct access to the shoreline for walking, swimming, kayaking or digging for clams & mussels. Location is on a National Schoodic Scenic by way which offers lots of information at scenic turn outs along 28miles of historic areas, recreational activities, and lots of environmental information. A great family vacation!
