Our names are Marsal & Albert. We moved to Hawaii in 2005 from Northern California. We are in property management and real estate. We love to explore the island as much as possible, and share our island experiences with our guests.
Albert & Marsal purchased this house in 2004
After coming to the Big Island several times, and looking at many areas, we decided we loved the climate of our area and the breathtaking views. Almost always sunny and not nearly the amount of humidity as other parts of the island. Plus, the nightly breezes made it very comfortable.
We like the location of our place because it is out of the hustle and bustle of city life and close to many great beaches and attractions. It is ideal if you would like to explore the island. You can choose to go to Hilo or Kona for the day. The ocean view is awesome. You can see to Kona and sometimes Maui. The seclusion and tranquility is wonderful. The sunsets are unforgetable and the stars are epic.

Don & I wish to thank you for the use of your Lovely "Cottage". It is very comfortabel and handy to our kids' house.
We will no doubt be seeing you from time to time.
We were only able to stay a few days in this charming little house in the hills but it felt like home from the minute we arrived. The floor plan is open with a wonderful peaked ceiling surrounded by louvered windows that we opened to take advantage of the cool breezes. The kitchen was fully appointed, the grounds were lush and well kept, the bed was SOOOO comfortable, and the bathroom was GREAT--very roomy with a full-size tub and even a stacked washer/dryer tucked away in a closet! The location gets you away from the resorts and the busier areas of town--a bit of a drive from the airport but a PERFECT location from which to explore the island. We would love to return for a longer stay!
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have stumbled upon the pineapple express on VRBO - Our trip to the big island could not have gotten off to a better start. We unintentionally arrived (this was before a business trip) during Iron-Man triathlon weekend, but Miloli'i was far enough away that we felt zero impact from the chaos and road closures associated with the event.
To people looking for accommodations near the restaurants and shopping that you will find in the resorts of Kailua and Kona, you may want to consider an alternative. For us, the accomodations were perfect; The sleepy fishing village of Miloli'i lacks large crowds and even the most basic shopping and tourist traps.
The drive south from Kona/Kailua is amazingly beautiful and the windy one-lane road to the village is steep and slow going. In fact, there is a gentleman who lives along the road that will provide audible feedback if you stray above 10mph on any uphill or downhill trips. However, once you arrive, the pineapple express will impress you with its very clever-yet-minimalist design, it's craftsmanship, cleanliness and breathtaking 180 degree views of the Pacific ocean. Located at about 1000' feet above the village of Miloli'i, the bungalow provided an extreme amount of isolation, security and relaxation for people like the two of us who desperately needed an escape.
We will definitely be coming back on the next trip to the big island.
This place is great for a couple with nice ocean and sunset views. We loved hanging out on the lanai watching the geckos and listening to the birds. Our main reason for picking this location was the proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes Natl Park - little more than an hour away. Although a bit of a treck to the store, we were out often enough to plan shopping with our outings. The little beach noted by the owners was a great place for a first time snorkeler. The home is very well appointed with very comfy bed. We enjoyed the hot tub too! Thanks for the nice accomodations!
The bed was amazingly comfortable. We hiked into the recommended bay and had it to ourselves for 5 hours.
This was a great place for us to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We enjoyed watching the sunsets and looking at the ocean from the patio. The hot tub was a nice feature to relax after a day at the beach. We enjoyed using the BBQ as well. The cottage had everything we needed and we would strongly recommend it to anyone.
We gave this a 5 star rating; however, there were two things we experienced that was less than perfect. First, the location of the cottage is an hour away from a nice beach. There is a beach close by but it involves parking and walking over a very rocky trail for 25 minutes to get there. We ended up driving to Kona every day to use the beaches and get supplies (30 miles and a hour drive, one way).
Second, the internet stopped working midway during our stay. Even when it was working it was very very slow. This didn't bother us since we wanted to disconnect and relax but if you need a fast connection you should be aware of that. We had a t-mobile cell phone that had no service and a verizon cell phone that sometimes would pick up one bar.
If you want a place to disconnect and relax this is a perfect place. That's what we were looking for and we couldn't have been happier with our decision.
The house is cute, very small (~500 square feet) and says it sleeps four. We had two adults and a small child and it was TIGHT. The pull-out futon in the living room was pretty darn uncomfortable, even for a child. We knew the location before booking, but didn't realize the closest grocery store was 30 minutes away - there literally isn't any sort of store or restaurant within 30 minutes. For some, this is great, but it is something to note for sure!
We expected to be able to use WiFi and the service was so terrible that we couldn't even load email - we talked to the owner who was very responsive and it improved slightly, but we were unable to stream or download anything for the entire length of our stay. We were told this is just the level of WiFi service they normally have. Another thing we just wish we would've known before booking, but know it isn't an issue for everyone.
We liked all of the extras (cooler, snorkel stuff, etc) that were there for us to use and enjoyed the views from the patio. We found a variety of great beaches and liked the peace and quiet the house provided. Thanks!
