About Ilaeka Villa

I bought this property when it came up for sale as it borders my family's beautiful Cumberland Plateau farm. This mid century cabin was then totally renovated and redecorated. I worked as an international consultant and lived in Paris France for 15 years prior to moving back to TN to start the 'country home' style vacation rentals on our farm. My father 'Papa Phil' who lives at the farmhouse nearby helps me manage the property and does the popular catering services we offer to guests. He is a retired IBM executive and he cooks from scratch using only the freshest ingredients. Recently I sold this property to good friends who come a couple times a year but continue to manage it a a vacation rental for them and live nearby in my family's 1800s farmhouse.

Ilaeka Villa purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Ilaeka Villa chose Grandview

Family & Guests who have stayed with us in the past always commented on the beauty of the Cumberland Plateau area and how nice it was to get away from the crowds of Gatlinburg and enjoy a peaceful rural getaway! There are many waterfalls, rivers and lakes in the area and the Cumberland Trail State Park hikes are all around us. The Cumberland Plateau is rich in history, musical culture and this location was ideally situated in eastern Tennessee. The perfect place to 'relax, explore, unwind' away from the stress of city life.

What makes this cottage unique

Romantic Upscale Mountain View Country Cottage on 145 acres offering private hot tub on deck, indoor spa tub, indoor gas fireplace, central AC & heat, eco-friendly B&B style amenities, outdoor cowboy style fire-pit and gas grill. Ideal for honeymoons, anniversaries, country weddings, family fun, nature lovers, week vacations, reunions & spur of the moment long weekend get-aways. Pamper yourself in the country !

Guestbook comments from the owner

Several of our guests have signed our guestbook in the cottage but not on the website so here are a few highlights:

"Chill was the word of the day, smores and sausages around the firepit, walk to the "beach" (pond), everything was great. We even saw a deer walk right through the back yard.. Had a great time!" (July 2008 - Talpesh Family & friends-Florida)

""We came here seeking time away from a hectic lifestyle. We found wonderful natural peaceful and satisfying accomodations...early mornings running on your hills (which we will tell people back home "mountains", middle of the day at the pond pulling in the "big one", rest and peace of cool nights... We enjoyed visiting with our hosts and experiencing the great country breakfast. First Class accomodation with much more than we expected." (Aug 2008-The Holder Family-Indiana)

"... God blessed us with your lovely getaway cottage. A dream come true for us. We hope to visit again real soon...not just to celebrate our 65th and 32nd mutual anniversaies, but just to relax and enjoy the serenity and peace found here." (Sept 08 - Bonnie and Doug, Bea and Fred - Ohio)

"We always wanted to find a getaway that was truly relaxing and we could call "Our place"... where a lot of special memories were made. You thought of everything! The warm feel of the PineCone Cottage was the perfect touch. We will be back and we will send others. Thank you for opening this wonderful place" (Oct 08 -The Dingwalls - Tennessee)

Wonderful once again!

  • 5 of 5

This was my 2nd stay at the pinecone cottage and it was just as wonderful as the first time. Ilaeka and Papa Phil make sure there's nothing you need to worry about - they have it all covered. Just bring clothes and food - and you can order some food items from them too, they will provide a menu and they will deliver it to you. Accommodations like no other. I cannot wait to return again. I recommend it to everyone even though I don't want to compete for availability. :)

Thank you for another wonderful stay!

A piece of heaven out in the country!

  • 5 of 5

We just completed our stay in the Pinecone cabin & it was amazing. The attention to detail is above & beyond. Ilaeka & Papa Phil have outdone themselves. The cabin is fully stocked with everything you need & then some. Lots of activities & games are available to take you back in time. I played horseshoes for the first time in 20 years! Papa Phil has perfected the artisan pizza & blew my mind with his biscuits & sausage gravy. Highly recommend this place.

Great escape

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here while our daughter was at gymnastics camp. This cottage is a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's secluded, but not isolated. The drive to and from the cabin is beautiful. The accommodations are lovely. Everything you need is here, pots, pans, dishes, linens, grill, board games and darts. The hot tub was very relaxing. There is a really nice hiking trail through the field and woods that isn't too difficult for us city folks. I would definitely stay here again.

Cozy, charming cottage, with amazing hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Pinecone twice now and would definitely stay here again if we are in the area. Ilaeka and Papa Phil are wonderful! They truly are hosts, rather than just proprietors. The cottage is so charming and cozy we immediately felt at home. From the welcome basket of homemade cookies and chocolates, to the handmade soaps, board games, bathrobes, and of course the hot tub, they have thought of everything!

There is as much or as little to do in the area as you would like. Horseback riding, wine tasting, hiking to waterfalls, canoeing, and fishing are all available on property or within 15-30 minute drives. Day trips for white water rafting, ziplining or adventures in Knoxville, Gatlinburg or Nashville are all 2 hours or less away. Plus, there are binders full of directions to all of these activities and dining recommendations right in the cottage.

If you are looking for a place to disconnect and relax or be a base for adventures, be sure to consider the unmatched hospitality of Grandview Mountain Cottages!

Owner's Response: So glad your summer vacations have brought your family here two years in a row and we look forward to future visits! We love the Cumberland Plateau area in East Tennessee with its lack of crowds and relaxed pace, yet so many activities to choose from just a country drive away. As you mentioned, there's plenty to do if you venture out... or just staying and cozying one of our cottages on the 145 acre property works its charm for a fun family time or a great romantic break. Thanks for such kind words about Papa Phil and me! Hosting our family's mountain farm to others is truly an enjoyable experience for us. We're not far away from the cottages ("country homes" as many of our guests call them) if you need us for tourism advice, Papa Phil's catering services or just want to visit our farm porch store and sit a spell on our 1800s farmhouse porch. Our motto is "Relax, Unwind, Explore" which seems to sum up your review perfectly!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Truly enjoyed our stay. Just bring food. The kitchen is fully stocked: plastic wrap, foil, oils, non-stick spray, cookware, slow cooker, blender, frosted glasses in the freezer, grater, peeler, knives, utensils, and & every kind of pot, pan, or bowl you could possibly need, etc. Fresh eggs are delicious. Beds are very comfortable. Lutron dimmers throughout the entire cottage. Fixtures, bathrooms, & appliances are upscale. Grill & hot tub are top of the line! Owners are very friendly & gracious. They have thought of everything to make your stay very enjoyable. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay and so nice to meet you all. We try to stock the cottages as if you are visiting your country home. Sounds like we succeeded! The eggs from our nearby farm porch store are from a friend's farm as we try to source locally as much as possible. Enjoyed meeting your folks and look forward to your next visit!
