Garden Apartment - 3 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 2-6)

Our Southbank garden apartment, in the new heart of London, is 100 yards from The Thames behind The OXO Tower between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge.

Our apartment is on the first and second floors of a small, modern block of 16 apartments. The first floor comprises of a living room and full kitchen. There are patio doors onto a beautiful, planted deck with a table and chairs for al fresco dining. There is also a double bedroom and shower room on this floor. There is also a a third bedroom with bunk beds suitable for two children or one adult.. On the second floor is an en suite master bedroom overlooking the garden deck. There is an elevator.

We are very close to the cultural heart of London including The National Theatre, Hayward Gallery, Royal Festival Hall, National Film Theatre, Tate Modern, Globe Theatre and The London Eye. There are lots of places nearby to eat and drink to cover all tastes and budgets.

Location: We are ten minutes from two tube stops (Waterloo and Blackfriars), which have 5 lines between them as well as British Rail services. For the most picturesque walk along The River, we use Embankment Station, which takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on how many photos you take!

Eating: We have plenty of places nearby to eat including two very good restaurants in The OXO Tower, which have great views. There are lots of less expensive restaurants within a short distance, many overlooking The River, and a couple of pubs on The River that serve food and drink throughout the day.It truly is the best location in London!

About David and Julia Batchelor-Walsh

David and Julia have always loved the culture of London's South Bank and when the opportunity arose to purchase an apartment they couldn't believe their luck.

They have an ten year old son, Sebastian.

Julia is a professional, classical singer having trained at The Royal College of Music. Since the birth of Sebastian she has been a full time Mum fitting in the occasional concert.

David is a full time Dad and says it's the best thing he has ever done!

The South Bank is the vibrant cultural centre of London. Our apartment is near Tate Modern, the world's most visited modern art gallery and a host of other attractions including The Globe Theatre, St Paul's Cathedral, The National Theatre, The National Film Theatre, Hayward Gallery, The Royal Festival Hall, London Eye etc etc.

We are within walking distance of theatreland and Covent Garden and there are lots and lots of places to eat and drink to suit all tastes and budgets.

Public transport is fabulous particularly the RV1 bus which stops outside our apartment block and runs, mainly along The River, from Tower Hill to Covent Garden via Waterloo. It is a very frequent service. Taxis are abundant.

Perfection In London

Perfect property to see and do all of London. First time visitor- with its front door bus service... which then connects to tubes and other buses, all on a London Tube pass (the cheapest way to get everywhere) ! You arrive to a quiet oasis and settle in with a few necessities for breakfast David provides ... when you have refreshed, you tackle the town ... sometimes returning HOME... to recharge !

It's like moving your home to London... COME ON OVER !

Perfect for all of London’s sites!

We stayed at David and Julia’s flat with my 75 year old father and it was perfect! Very close to Waterloo station do it was easy for him to get around. David met us and even had basic staples ready in the frig.

Good apartment with all required facilities. Close walking distance to London Eye, Big Ben and Westminister. Great sized apartment for family. Really enjoyed the stay. Would recommend to family and friends.

Wonderful flat in great location

David met us at the flat to make sure we were all set. The flat was very clean and well represented in the pictures. Very close to all London landmarks, the tube, eateries/ pubs. It was a lovely stay and would highly recommend.

Great Location, but...

We stayed for 6 days in August. The location is great, walking distance to Westminster (20min) along the waterfront and to St.Pauls Cathedral (15 min).

The apartment is big enough for two people, as it has two bedrooms and two small bathrooms. Those are the positives. Better space than a hotel but just as pricy.

Be aware the shower is too small for some people, the other bathroom has a tub (with out shower curtain though so everything gets wet) that is bigger. We had some water pressure issues and the upstairs toilet doesn't really flush, even after being told how to get it too.

The kitchen is functional for making breakfast in the morning. Just don't look to closely at the cleanliness (kitchen appliances, bathroom)

The outside space is shared with other units so it doesn't provide any privacy. The apartment is the first one and next to the garden door, so every time someone went to their unit they walked by us and could see directly into the apartment. Some even waved. So no privacy.

I have stayed in many rentals and in many countries through this site (which is great) and although the location was good I will stay elsewhere next time around.

Owner's Response: Dear Michaela, Our cleaner, who we have had since taking bookings on HomeAway, was devastated to read your comments. It's the first complaint we have received in over ten years of HomeAway membership. With regard to price our apartment represents exceptional value for money. Our local pub, on a busy main road, charges £161.00 a night for a single room of approximately 100 square feet. Our apartment excluding the outside deck is 750 square feet. I have to disagree with you about the communal deck. It's very rarely used by other residents and is a quiet oasis in the centre of one of the busiest cities in the world. Our part of the garden is private and for use only by our guests. The shower attached to the bath in the ensuite bathroom is obviously only intended for hair washing. Again I have to disagree with you, the water pressure is high. The vast majority of our reviews are five stars and your review is only the second three star rating we have received during those ten years. They are all within a five to ten minutes walk along the river bank . A little further and you would reach The London Eye, The Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. If you cross Waterloo Bridge, Covent Garden is two minutes away.

Other Activities: Sight seeing and cultural activities and shopping!
