Paradise in Polebridge

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 3 nights here in late September for our 30th anniversary. We enjoyed the remote location, and the views are incredible right from your porch. Mountains are all around you. No other cabins right on top of you. I woke early every morning and took my coffee onto the porch to watch the sunrise. Bundle up, but you will be rewarded. I will never forget seeing 2 wolves in the nearby field, and hearing wolves howl in the distance for a solid minute. Another morning I saw a red fox. Late one afternoon we saw a black wolf in the meadow. Mule deer every evening at dusk. The owner has provided binoculars and a spotting scope for you use. Another evening about dusk we saw a black bear standing in the road a few miles from the cabin. Watching the stars at night on the upper balcony is amazing as well. The cabin itself has all you need for cooking, and the wood stove is great. The bed upstairs is very comfortable and you will sleep great. The owners have thought of everything you could need, even providing a land line (bring a calling card). In the evening we enjoyed Yahtzee and doing crossword puzzles together. Disconnecting from television was wonderful. We bought food in Whtefish--no stores nearby other than the Mercantile. The Mercantile is great for coffee and homemade pastries and bread. They dont have much in the line of groceries. My husband loved the huckleberry turnover the best. They even have some gluten free options. You truly are in a remote and beautiful place in Polebridge. The road to the nearby park entrance is a little rough with large potholes but tolerable. We drove to Bowman Lake one day. The inner North Fork Road in the park is washed out and closed about 7 miles south of the entrance. Another day we drove north past Polebridge to Red Meadow Lake, on US Forrest Service property. Another beautiful, amazing place. There are 2 cans of bear spray at the cabin for your use, which was great since we came by train and couldn't bring ours from home. Another day we drove south to the Camas Creek entrance and hiked the Apgar Lookut hike. We spent the rest of the vacation on the east side of the park, but for us it didn't even compare to what we had in Polebridge. This cabin and the town of Polebridge is a wonderful piece of paradise.

Snell Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 4 wonderful days at The Snell cabin in Polebridge. it is a beautifully maintained and well equipped cabin. We very much enjoyed having a fire in the wood burning stove every evening that warms up the entire cabin. It is off the grid so no cell service but that is a plus!! Every (early) morning we would have our bino's and watch out the kitchen window onto the neighbors property and saw 2 wolves, fox and deer!! 1 short mile up the road is The Merc with their scrumptious baked goods and hot sandwiches. The Northern Lights Saloon closed 1 week before we got there. Stop at the supermarket before you get to the cabin. The road is about 8 miles of rough road with pot holes but if you keep a steady speed of around 30 mph you do fine!! Then 4 paved miles.

After you cross the bridge you look on the right for a wooden box that says free library and turn down the driveway and you have arrived. Owner John Snell is a phone call away if you have any questions. Northwestern entrance to GNP is a mile or so from The Merc. If you are looking for quiet and relaxing this is the place!! Don't forget to listen for the wolves howling at night!!

Amazing getaway

  • 5 of 5

Spent 5 nights here with my 2 daughters, mother and brother. What an relaxing vacation! I cannot say enough great things about this cabin and location! It is so secluded and peaceful and what a view! Every day deer visited the property. One evening when we pulled up to the cabin, there was a herd of elk in the yard. No complaints about anything in the cabin. Definitely planning to come again when my husband is able to get away! Fell in love with this place!!

AWESOME!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is awesome! It was so quiet which I really needed. My husband and I had an outside fire, and inside fire, spent time on the front porch, as well as the upstairs balcony. What a great little gem. I would recommend this to anyone who would like some peace and quiet. We loved it. Thank you so much for having everything one would need to stay for a week.

Relaxing Glacier NP visit

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a week at the Trapper cabin in Polebridge. As advertised, it’s on acreage and you definitely feel like you have your own piece of land bordering the park. I actually spent the first few hours upon arrival just sitting on the porch and taking in the view – it’s an amazing location! The cabin has everything you need and most folks won’t even notice they are off the grid…..the solar/inverter setup is pretty much seamless. My primary goal was to have close access to the north fork section park for some kayaking and hiking, and Polebridge is the perfect place for this. I definitely recommend kayaking Kintla Lake and the north fork of the Flathead, if kayaking is your thing. There is also plenty of fabulous hiking in the area, away from the crowds you might find in the more populated areas in the park. Even if you aren’t interested in these activities, the peaceful and quiet setting is perfect to just chill out and relax (I spent a great deal of time just sitting on the porch reading a book). It was also not uncommon to have the local deer swing through the yard in the early evening, which was always a treat. For full disclosure, Polebridge the town is very small (the Merc, Northern lights Saloon, and some rustic lodging) but as far as I am concerned, it’s ideal. A quick bike ride into town for prime rib on Saturday night at the Northern Lights make for a fabulous dinner adventure. There is also another store/tavern a few miles south of the cabin (Home Ranch Bottoms) which has huckleberry pie and ice cream which are not to be missed. John is great to work with and he answered all of my questions prior to arrival (not to mention my security deposit check was in my mailbox before I even got home). Ultimately, it was a great trip and I highly recommend the Polebridge trapper cabin for those interested in some time off the beaten path (and away from cell phones, TV, and internet) and away from the crowds. With any luck I hope to return at some point in the near future.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with two teenage girls and an 18 month old stayed in the cabin Aug 9-12. It was perfect! The cabin is very well appointed, it has everything you could possibly need, it even has three cans of bear spray! We spent many hours outside marveling at the unobstructed views of the mountains. The owner even stopped by to check in to see if we needed anything. We will definitely be back!
