The locals say that Camden, Maine is the place where heaven meets earth, and nowhere is that more true than on Camden's Lake Megunticook. To see this classic New England town and its picture-perfect lake is to fall in love.
Just two miles from downtown Camden, this newly restored lakeside cottage combines the best of classic Maine camp architecture with a luxurious twist. The owners took a historic 4-bedroom 'camp' and completed a top-to-bottom renovation featuring a state-of-the-art chef's kitchen with stainless appliances and granite countertops, three plasma televisions, high-speed wireless Internet access and a stunning sun-drenched master bedroom/bathroom fronting the lake.
The location - with its views of Megunticook's many islands and nearby Maiden's Cliff -- can not be beat. The property's three kayaks are ideal for exploring the lake's scenic, historic shoreline, where most cottages date to the turn of the century. The brand new oversized dock features two log benches where parents can relax while watching their children play in the water.
The owners have furnished their home with great care. They've combined uniquely Maine items -- a set of log bunk beds and vintage oil paintings by coastal artists -- with antique furniture and comfortable upholstered pieces.
The home features a king-size master site, a guest room with queen bed, a room with log bunk beds, a room with two twin beds and a den with pullout full-size sleeper. There are dark, wide-plank floors throughout, bleached pine paneling and a standout window seat -- perfect for an afternoon nap. The picnic table and Adirondack chairs on the lower deck are natural spots from which to enjoy a lobster feast or blueberry pancakes, while the upper deck affords a private, romantic retreat.
For outdoor enthusiasts, there's no better spot to kayak, fish, swim, waterski, wakeboard or tube than Camden's Lake Megunticook. The nearby Camden Hills are perfect for hiking and enjoying scenic views.
With some of Maine's finest restaurants, art galleries and antique shops just five minutes away, this cottage is ideally situated. Camden is the perfect, central location for day trips to picturesque neighboring towns and islands.

5 star lake house
Beautiful cottage with plenty of room and lots of extra touches such as skylights and balconies, daybeds, kayaks, plenty of bathrooms, right on the lake. Our grandson loved fishing right off the dock and we especially liked the location of the house on the lake. Very scenic and great for swimming and kayaking. Also we enjoyed the short distance to Camden for shopping and great seafood dinners overlooking the harbor. We would definitely consider going back.
Megunticook Lake House
Had a FABULOUS TIME AT YOUR GORGEOUS COTTAGE. CANNOT RAVE ENUF ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL EVERYTHING WAS!! We 8 women were very busy and loved all we did. Weather was perfect. Shirt sleeve weather. Did so much.... Farnsworth, Owl's Head Transportation (got a free ride in a 1915 Ford), fabulous schooner cruise in perfect weather on the Surprise with Captain Jack, shopped Camden, drove all over, Mt. Battie, Rockland, Rockport, etc., etc. , wortld's highest observation tower at suspension bridge beyond Belfast, Fort Knox, Hope, belted Galloways, and on and on. Fabulous dinner at Primo's, great lobster rolls at Cappy's, Camden's harbor overlook picnic lunch from Camden Deli delicious, marvelous fresh lobster, mussels, and shrimp, (chowder not great) at Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast, ice cream from Mt. Battie deli, blueberry pancakes at Boynton & McKay, fancy cocktails and appetizers at Hartstone Inn, take out from Long Grain, and on and on. Everything was great at your cottage. Beautiful decor, very comfortable, quite clean, view extraordinaire!!!!! Last night had one of the best sunsets any of us have ever seen. Color covered the sky and, of course, was reflected in the lake. Breathtaking. Earlier in the wk., the night was so clear the night stars were reflected in the lake which was a mirror of the heavens. Have never seen such a sight before. Would dearly love to come back again and again.
Lives up to the 5 star rating
Wow. What more can you ask for? Four bedrooms on the lake. This house has everything you would as for in a great vacation home.
We would get up in the mornings, brew the coffee and go down to the dock with the kids and cast out the fishing lines. Perfect summer mornings with not a ripple on the water. Afternoons we splashed in the crystal clear waters and paddled the kayaks around the lake. Evenings spent watching the sun go down, sitting on the patio as the colors changed from gold to red to purple. Amazing.
This house is so perfect we didn't want to leave. Taking naps on the daybed in the living room, playing cards on the balcony, fishing off the dock. Beds were comfortable with great space for our group of six. I wish I had a complaint, but I don't. Well done!
Loved Primrose Cottage!
Our family enjoyed Primrose Cottage for a week at the end of June in 2013. We were excited to arrive and find the house just as it was described. We toured the house and dock immediately, delighted to find the accommodations to our liking. Camden was a perfect location for our itinerary; we chose to make several day trips, and Primrose acted as the perfect home-base for our family. When we weren't out and about, we took advantage of the kayaks. Paddling around Lake Megunticook was a favorite activity for every member of our group, which included three couples and two young children. Pleasing every member of our group, ages 1.5 through 62, might seem a daunting task, but we were all more than satisfied. Our 4 year old thought it was the best family vacation ever. We were so thankful to find a home away from home, and we enjoyed our stay so much that we are already talking about a return trip!
A group of seven women went to Camden in mid September and we were very fortunate to find Primrose Cottage! Staying here was a key piece of our fabulous trip. The home is newly renovated, clean and well furnished ( and we are particular)! It has fabulous views of the lake. We sat on the deck at night and watched the sun come down while enjoying our wine before dinner. The deck stretches into the water. The lake is fantastic and there are kayaks and a canoe to use. It was a great way to both start and end the day...very peaceful and beautiful! i would say the pictures on the site cannot do this justice.
The owner was great in answering questions and offering tips on restuarants and places to go. There is also a booklet in the home with suggestions. The cottage is located right out of town so very accessible.
We would recommend this to anyone!
A perfect getaway in a lovely place!
We just spent a terrific week in the Primrose Cottage after a journey from Hong Kong where we live. Our experience was the best we've ever had on a vacation. Aside from Camden's charm and Megunticook Lake's beauty, our accommodations were superb. These are clearly dedicated owners who understand all of the necessary comforts of a family vacation. The house was in perfect condition and was fully equipped for meals, fun on the lake and just lounging. Perched right on the lake, we enjoyed magnificent sunsets from the wonderful deck, lobster dinners and the calls of the loons. Would give this 5 stars - highly recommended during any season!
