About marcia doolin

My husband and I and our three daughters have spent many special times at this cottage. We have always been skiers and our girls have developed into serious ski racers. We now spend every weekend here during the ski season and ski at Boyne Mountain when we are not traveling to nearby ski resorts for scheduled races.

marcia doolin purchased this cottage in 1999

Why marcia doolin chose Lake Charlevoix

We have always loved the close knit community and laid back character of Boyne City. The people are real and the town takes you back to a simpler time when family spent meals and evenings together enjoying one anothers company. We first owned a smaller cottage directly across the street and purchased this one when our family got too big for the one bathroom and two burner stove. We have loved having the two living spaces for friends and family. Everyone is comfortable because they have their own space and conveniences.

What makes this cottage unique

We have spent nearly every New Year's Eve at this cottage creating memories that will last forever. We live on Lake Erie in Ontario in the summer and are not able to enjoy Boyne City in the summer at it's best. That's why we are happy to share this special home with others who will hopefully fall in love with Boyne City like we have and want to return year after year to continue cherished family ties at a slower pace.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Marcia,

Everyone had a wonderful time and there was plenty of snow for skiing. The teenage boys spent two full days at Avalanche Bay and had a great time. My two year old granddaughter took her first ski lessons and even went up the chair lift. The accommodations were excellent with plenty of parking for all three vehicles. Thanks for everything.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from our Boyne City vacation -- I think it is an underappreciated community! It is a perfect location to get to other places (Sleeping Bear Dunes, Mackinaw, etc.) and the downtown is extremely friendly & fun! Everything you need right in walking distance from the home. The home was very comfortable/very clean - kitchen well stocked - lovely 2nd level. Perfect for families (except I found the spiral stair case tricky....definitely would be a concern for the young or elderly). The only "con" I can think of is that the exterior /front porch area really needs paint. Many lovely homes in the area - loads of pride of ownership, so would be good to show off this lovely home, too! The front porch rockers are so nice -- a perfect place to hang out. The 2nd level in the back was very nice -- we thoroughly cleaned the grill (which had not been done), but we left it spic and span for the others! The ping pong table in the basement was a big hit!!!!! The 2nd floor kitchen was very handy! An absolutely wonderful vacation!

I would certainly return!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your thorough review Sharon. The covered front porch and upper front deck is our next project and will be a big one. I hope you will come back to enjoy them next summer! Many thanks. Marcia and Kurt

5 star stay year after year!

  • 5 of 5

We have now been staying in this house for 8 consecutive summers. We love the house and location so much. Walkable to downtown, the lake, the river, multiple parks, community baseball fields, and anything else you could want to get to. The home is consistently updated and extremely well maintained. The owners could not possibly be better to work with. Can't think of a single thing that I don't love about this place!

Comfortable, spacious vacation home

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend staying at this property! Location is great and walkable to everything in Boyne City, and for the most part the space accommodated 10 adults nicely. The house was very clean (very important to me) and lovingly cared for, with vintage charm and personality. Owner was great to converse with. Only issue was that we ran out of toilet paper by early Sunday morning, but were leaving in a few hours so it wasn't worth calling the property manager. All around, I would definitely come back!

Fabulous Get Away for Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Our family was looking for a place where we would want to spend Christmas, close to skiing. We were attracted to the size and décor of the house from the pictures, and 2 kitchens were particularly appealing! The actual house was even better than we had anticipated!! And the owner had decorated it for Christmas with a tree and white lights strung along the 3rd floor banister and outside balcony. It was very festive and welcoming! For sleeping, we had 3 couples who were all very comfortable in the 3 bedrooms. Our 7th member chose to sleep on the window seat bed and created her own "space" in the lower living area. Both kitchens were used extensively and were very well equipped (1st floor for meals, 2nd floor for adult beverages!). We enjoyed playing ping pong in the basement and used the 2nd floor living area (where the Christmas tree was set up) for games and opening gifts, in addition to watching football on TV! The 1st floor living area was perfect for people to hang out in, watching TV while meals were being prepared, and for late night movies when others had gone to bed. We had people driving from Michigan, SC and Washington, DC, and found the parking was perfect for 3 cars. We had one issue with a missing garbage can, but the house manager was very accessible and responsive, even though she was away on her own Christmas holiday! In planning our trip, the owner was great - responding quickly, answering questions and providing suggestions for restaurants and things to do. Our only disappointment was the lack of snow, so we did very little skiing, but still managed to get to a couple of the ski areas during our stay. We would definitely recommend this house for winter vacations. It is walking distance to the lake and downtown, so I'm sure it is a wonderful vacation home the rest of the year as well.

Owner's Response: We are so happy Carol, that you and your family loved the cottage as much as we do. This was the first time in 15 years that our family did not spend the week between Christmas and New Years there so I shed a few sentimental tears when I was putting up the little tree and hanging the lights. It warms my heart that your wonderful family enjoyed them instead. Thank you for your comments and all the best in the New Year!
