About marcia doolin

My husband and I and our three daughters have spent many special times at this cottage. We have always been skiers and our girls have developed into serious ski racers. We now spend every weekend here during the ski season and ski at Boyne Mountain when we are not traveling to nearby ski resorts for scheduled races.

marcia doolin purchased this cottage in 1999

Why marcia doolin chose Boyne City

We have always loved the close knit community and laid back character of Boyne City. The people are real and the town takes you back to a simpler time when family spent meals and evenings together enjoying one anothers company. We first owned a smaller cottage directly across the street and purchased this one when our family got too big for the one bathroom and two burner stove. We have loved having the two living spaces for friends and family. Everyone is comfortable because they have their own space and conveniences.

What makes this cottage unique

We have spent nearly every New Year's Eve at this cottage creating memories that will last forever. We live on Lake Erie in Ontario in the summer and are not able to enjoy Boyne City in the summer at it's best. That's why we are happy to share this special home with others who will hopefully fall in love with Boyne City like we have and want to return year after year to continue cherished family ties at a slower pace.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Marcia,

Everyone had a wonderful time and there was plenty of snow for skiing. The teenage boys spent two full days at Avalanche Bay and had a great time. My two year old granddaughter took her first ski lessons and even went up the chair lift. The accommodations were excellent with plenty of parking for all three vehicles. Thanks for everything.

Excellent family vacation home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year doing a “Christmas ski trip”. Last year we stayed in 2 condos. It was fun but missed waking up with all of us together. This family home did just that. We all had our separate space when needed but with the multiple family areas we were able to be in one area while the kids slept and the adults had time to play games and such. The first day we did Avalanche water park which was so fun and relaxing. The second day everyone went skiing at Boyne Mountain. We had such a blast on this trip. This will be our new vacation home tradition every year now. Thanks so much!!

Vintage & Modern, very cool BIG house in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in VRBO's from Florida to Maine to Utah and many in between, this rates as the best. As a couple with 3 adult-age working 'kids' 27, 25 & 19, it's a challenge to schedule a vacation, let alone find a rental that pleases everyone. With a winter vacation in mind including snowmobling & skiing at Boyne mountain, this home was perfect for everyone. Big bedrooms & bathrooms stocked with towels, comfortable beds, beautiful woodwork and detailing throughout the house yet loaded with modern conveniences. We braved 0° temps. & took a short walk over to Stigg's Brewery and enjoyed outstanding custom burgers and sandwiches. They offer an amazing variety of craft beers with the option of ordering a flight of six to sample the different selections. Very friendly servers who really know the nuances of their beers. We also walked over to Red Mesa Grill for awesome mexican food, big portions with homemade salsas. Both restaurants were very reasonably priced. With a short 6 mile drive to Boyne mountain and situated in the center of town this house was ideal, no other vrbo could of come close to making our winter vacation so enjoyable.

Ideal location, near-perfect home.

  • 4 of 5

For an older home in a not-so-modern town, this house was really impressive. Beautiful architecture, big kitchen with everything you could need, nice sized dining room with room enough to see our entire 8-person party for every meal. We were there in the winter so didn't spend much time on the balconies but I was licking my lips for Summer and I think we'll be back in both Summer and Winter.

What we liked most about the house was the upstairs and downstairs living rooms. A few nights during our stay, the kids watched a kids movie in one room and the adults could hang out in the other, make all the noise we wanted, and not have to worry about the kids. Even after kids went to sleep, there were great spaces to hang out for more adult time. Bathrooms were also very nice, especially the upstairs.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent NYE at this home and had a wonderful time! Skied at Boyne Mountain and enjoyed several restaurants in Boyne City. The home is in a perfect location. The adults enjoyed the top two floors and the kids enjoyed having their own space on the bottom level. The house was beautifully decorated and equipped with everything that we needed! Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your home!

Great Stay in Boyne City

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place to stay in Boyne City! We especially liked being able to walk to town for restaurants and the lake for beautiful sunset views. The home is close to Petoskey and Charlevoix. We liked the light in the upstairs living room. The kitchen had everything we needed for the meals we prepared. The upstairs bedrooms lack some privacy because of the glass doors. Overall the home is comfortable and spacious.

Owner's Response: Thank you Beth, We are glad you and your friends had a great time at the Boyne cottage. Thank you for mentioning the french doors, such an easy thing for me to add privacy blinds there -- I will do that right away. I'm surprised no one has ever commented on it before. Hope you will come back again. Marcia and Kurt
