Why Shirley McAfee Vacation Rental Expert chose Oakham
I love this waterfront location and it is my home. I have filled the houses with treasures I have collected over the past 25 years
What makes this House unique
Private 6 acre estate with three homes. I vacation rent two homes the Lake house and Waterfall house. Some guests rent both for wonderful family gatherings. The owner office/studio is also on the property. we have 1000 feet of water frontage and we abut the 5 mile river. There are three beaches and wilderness wonderment abounds.

We are a huge family 7 kids and a puppy. We all had a wonderful time at the lake. We loved the lake house. The swimming, boating and fishing kept us busy every day. The place was clean it is not a Marriott it is a lake house and it was perfect. Shirley was really easy to communicate with. I would have liked laundry and ac but that is just a personal preference. That does not discourage me from a return visit. Our kids all said "are we going back next year" ABSOLUTLEY! We will be back next year.
Thanks for the great memories :)
The cottage was beautiful with windows everywhere you feel like you are outside all tge time. The sunrises on the lake are the most beautiful you will ever see. Shirley is an amazing person who welcomes you as part of her family making you feel like you belong. The fishing is amazing and their are so many options you never get bored; paddle boats, canoes, swimming, rope swing, hiking, games, etc. the grounds are yours and you don't feel any limitations. I would live here year round of I could. Shirley "You Rock"...

This was a great spot for a get away.
2014 Retirement Celebration Vacation
I have waited several days to write this review to search my heart for fairness....still feeling sour. This place was extremely dirty. Pet hair 1/2 inch thick in the corners and by the fireplace. I have never seen so many spider/cobwebs in one place before. I live in the coutry so am accustomed to "critters" but this was bad. Even the dishes had crusty food on them. Several of the windows would not open/close properly. And while the pictures indicate lots of privacy, you are actually in a mini cluster of two other homes. This we did not mind but some window covering could have been nice for some degree of privacy. The beds are old and you can feel most springs. I was told towels were furnished. Apparently that meant bath towels only. No wash rags, hand towel or kitchen towels. I am not sure who all the glowing reviews were from but it must have been owners friends or there must have been a management change. Saved for years to enjoy this vacation......so disappointed.
A great family vacation
Our family enjoyed a relaxing vacation stay at the Lake House. The location was perfect, away from it all, as described. Our 4 adult children and their families came joined us for part of our time there, and we had family friends come for a day, as well, plenty of parking for all the coming and going! We had fun in the canoes, swinging from the rope swing into the water, and also enjoyed a peaceful swing on the old fashioned wood swing hung from a big tree. The house was somewhat rustic, as far as amenities, the kitchen was sparsely stocked with cooking utensils, but we had all that we needed. The large open family room area offered plenty of room to hang out together. We sat around a fire every night, roasting marshmallows, telling stories, and loving life on the lake! Shirley, the owner, was available to answer the questions we had prior to our vacation, and it was nice to meet her when we were there. A Place to Evolve, either the Lake House or The Waterfall House are great for a family get away vacation!
