Kalkan is on the Mediterranean cost, 85 km west of Fethiye and 27 km east of Kas. You can take a trip to Kas, Fethiye or hop on a boat to visit the Greek Island of Meis to explore and shop. The Lycian historical sites of Patara, Sidyma, Xanthos, Pinara, Letoon, and Tlos are within short driving distances. A day out on a gullet-wooden yacht- is also most enjoyable. Saklikent is another interesting place if you like water falls.
Kalkan once was an Ottoman-Greek fishing village known as Kalamaki. Conservation laws ensured that the village retain its authentic ambiance and architecture. Kalkan is a gastronomic treat with many restaurants offering wide ranges and styles of cuisines. You could have a great Turkish experience by being pampered at a hamam, a steam bathhouse of Roman origin. Having a massage at the hamam is also an unforgettable experience. There are many spa and beauty treatments in Kalkan for both men and women as well.
Kalkan is known for beautiful narrow streets and rooftop terraces where you can dine with the choice of your cousin while watching the fantastic views and sunsets over the harbour or listen to the call of prayer from a mosque nearby. Those narrow streets feature many boutique type shops selling jewellery, clothing, rugs, leather goods and many other things. The horseshoe harbour has many fishing boats and gullets that is ideal for scuba diving and day trips.
