About Sheonagh Beaton
This croft house and land have been in my husbands family for many years. His late great uncle kept his 'beasts' on this land and grew up in an original Skye black house - the site of which is now the drying area. Dualchas was originally built 80 years ago and has been refurbished within the last 6 years to provide, what is now, a cosy bolt hole for us. Living in Glasgow we try and visit at least twice a year.
Why Sheonagh Beaton chose Digg
Dualchas has one of the best views in Digg, the air is clean and there is no light pollution - meaning that on a clear night the sky is quite stunning. It has a special place in our hearts and I am sure that once you visit it will hold a special place in yours as well. We are now on Facebook - just search Dualchas Cottage and you will be able to find all sorts of interesting facts and pictures - please feel free to share your stories and photographs

The Perfect Retreat
I loved my stay at the crofter's cottage from the first minute to the last. It is a lovely cottage, in very peaceful but dramatic surroundings. It is ideally placed for the northern and eastern aspects of Skye, being very close to The Quirang, The Old Man of Stor, and other attractions. It is very comfortable, and well kitted out, and very well looked after.
Perfect location for all the good walks!
The view is astonishing, especially when the sun rises in the morning. The cottage is lovely decorated and has everything you need. Only downfall is the WiFi and there is barely any mobile reception, but obviously that’s something you face on the whole island. We had an amazing time and would definitely come back! The sheeps and little lambs are right in front of your door-amazing!
Beautiful spot. Great scenery. The croft house was magnificent. Completely enjoyed our week.
Everything about our stay was wonderful. Watching the sheep dog herding the sheep each evening was a highlight. The croft house had all of the amenities, including strong internet and hot showers. We enjoyed cooking dinner each evening as well.
Glad you enjoyed your stay
Wonderful stay on Skye
The croft was very well equipped and maintained so we had no issues with anything. We couldn't have asked for a better home base to explore Skye from.
We would definitely not hesitate in recommending the property or staying there again. I only wish we could have stayed longer!
It was a pleasure having you. You are welcome back any time.
My husband and I enjoyed a beautiful week staying in Dualchas. The weather was fantastic and the midges thankfully non-existent. The house has fabulous views over Staffin Bay and has everything needed for a comfortable home to home stay although we missed the use of a cafetiere! The house was very clean, well maintained and tastefully furnished. Beds were comfortable and we slept very well. Would certainly recommend this property if you want peace and tranquillity in stunning surroundings. Dealings with the owner were prompt and efficient.
A cosy bolt hole in a remarkable location.
Dualchas was warm and welcoming on arrival and a comfortable place to return after a day out exploring the beguiling enchantments of Skye. The cottage was clean and well appointed and had everything a family of four needed for a week away. The owner provided us with plenty of information prior to our stay.
Though the weather was dramatic and stormy and we peered through the mist and dreich drizzle most days, it was great to have such a cosy base for our adventures. We ate well (great coffee at Single Track, excellent pies at the Skye Pie Cafe and wonderful lunch at Cafe Sia) and had some great adventures on the Quirang, exploring the Fairy Glen, pootling about Portree (swimming at the Fingal Centre) and looking for dinosaur remains throughout Staffin Bay.
Skye captured us with its wildness and welcoming Hebridean hospitality and we will definitely return.
Skye is a beautiful island to explore. Why not go in search of the dinosaur's footprints on Staffin pier. There are many walks and there is a book to help you in the cottage. Dunvegan Castle is well worth a visit along with the local museum.
