The large sunny living room extends onto your large private lanai through 16' sliding glass doors overlooking the lush gardens & greenbelt. There is a gas BBQ, and table and chairs on the lanai. Watch the native birds and the occasional wild pigs stroll by!

About Donna
We moved from California to the Big Island of Hawaii in 1986. We love the slower paced island lifestyle, weather, and water activities. We have traveled extensively and would love to share what we think is one of the most beautiful places in the world with you.
Donna purchased this Apartment in 1998
Why Donna chose Kailua-Kona
Having lived at various other locations on the Kona Coast, we found our dream property 19 years ago and call it 'our final resting place'. Our 1 acre coffee estate is situated at a perfect elevation, which offers a bit cooler temperature than at sea level. It is in a rural, quieter area, yet still just minutes away from town and the beach.
What makes this Apartment unique
On site owners/managers, private, peaceful, with all the comforts of home. Bird watching right from your own private lanai!

Wonderful Stay at the Kona Coffee Estate
My wife and I visited the Big Island in March and we stayed five night's at the Kona Coffee Estate. Flying in from the east coast, we arrived late (10pm) and were greeted by Charlie the cat who made us feel quite at home! He kept us company during our stay, joining us on the lanai for morning coffee or at the gazebo in the evening for wine and cheese hour. He is quite the cat! Donna and Robbie's home is the perfect quiet retreat, with beautiful views and wonderful sounds of birds in the morning and frogs at night. The location is perfect, as it's close to town, but above the snarl of the Rt 19 traffic. Being on the "upper road" provides easy access to other parts of the island. We visited a number of beaches (Hapuna, Kua, Makalawena) and the beach chairs, umbrella, and cooler came in quite handy. The house is immaculate and well-stocked and we really enjoyed the Evett's homegrown coffee in the morning! Donna and Robbie are gracious hosts and we can't thank them enough for inviting us into their home. We highly recommend the Kona Coffee Estate and can't wait to return someday in the future!
It was a lovely place. We had everything we needed. I liked getting away from the lower Kona snarl.
This property is in the hills above Kona. It is a coffee plantation. It is close to a cute little town that has many art galleries and nice shops. There was also a great restaurant that had, as you might expect, great coffee. It also had a desert or pastery almost everyday that was wonderful. A couple of times I was there when the pastery chef brought them into the case. They were really delicious. The owners of the coffee plantation were really nice and helpful but not at all invasive. We felt we had complete privacy. I would defiantly stay there again. The road is a bit scary at first. It is curvy and narrow in places but we got used to it and felt comfortable driving. If you like quiet and solitude this place is it. The whole area is very lush. It was enjoyable sitting on the large lanai and reading surronded by the tropical footage. The kitchen was well stocked.I wasn't into major cooking but we had everything we needed for making simple meals. There was a dishwasher and garbage disposal as well as all the appliances for a complete kitchen. I enjoyed the cool evenings and mornings and the warm mid-days. A great little spot.
Thank you Marilyn! You and Karen were great guests! We hope you’ll come back again. A hui hou!
Plantation getaway
What a delightful, modern furnished apartment this was! Set up the hill from Kona where the air was cooler, it was a great place to escape the tourist ships and busy city below. We loved the large deck where we ate our meals and ventured down to the lookout to view the sunset. Our hosts thought of everything, including comfortable beach chairs, umbrella and cooler to make easy picnics. We loved it!
Great change from staying down Kailua area!
IIRC this was our 7th trip to the Big Island, first time staying here (2/6-2/15/16) instead of down ocean front. Very nice change of pace. The apartment is very well built, nicely and tastefully decorated and apportioned. Didn't use it but appreciated seeing a gas not electric range in the amply supplied kitchen!
Agree with other review directions detailed and accurate but finding the left turn up the drive was a challenge the first night in the dark (and rain!) but after that piece of cake.
Only real niggle (mild complaint) would be no bathroom fan just window. Turns into a sauna totally steaming up mirror and walls etc. taking showers lol. Wouldn't stop us from staying here again.
Great ocean views from kitchen and bedroom, would have been nice if apartment had been built "flipped" 180 so lanai was ocean side but knew that going in. Short walk down the stairs and across the parking to Gazebo great ocean views as described. No not like staying feet above the waves as had been our norm, but excellent panoramic view. And a fair trade from staying close in the hustle and bustle in a condo crowded with neighbors and noise etc. Except for the wildlife noises here of course, which personally I enjoy. (Even the rooster early in the mornings :-)
All in all a quality home away from home at a fair price.
A quiet little corner in Big Island paradise
The condo was exactly as described in the listing. It was very spacious and comfortable for our party of two travelers. Very clean, lovely and cozy, coming back at the end of each day's adventures felt like coming home. The property is conveniently located close to the airport, activities and the bustle of the commercial areas, but it is off the beaten path enough to feel you are in a quiet and peaceful corner of the island. Donna and Rob were very communicative and responsive. We thank them for sharing this gem!
Mountain Rental with Oceanviews
My husband and I stayed at this rental for 4 nights. The location is just perfect for those wanting to be away from the tourists but not so far where it is inconvenient. Being on the mountain, you could enjoy the cool mountain breezes while looking at the ocean from afar. The rental itself was clean and good sized with all the amenities you would need. It was also very private even though the unit was over the garage at the main house. My only complaint if I had any was the wildlife can get quite loud at night... like the coqui frogs or sometimes wild roosters. Overall I would definitely recommend this rental to couples or individuals that can climb stairs as the unit is on the second floor.
Location
Active volcano viewing, star gazing.
