Click the link below for OUR WEBSITE with more photos and info on our cabins and the local area.

**SPECIAL** Free pool heating (if needed) Oct, March 17 (weather permitting)- May with a 3 night or longer stay

There are 2 cabins on this property. The main cabin sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms and 2 on a sleeper sofa in living room and has 2 full bathrooms. A guest cabin, which sits on the opposite side of the pool, sleeps up to 4 on a King and 2 twins and has 1 full bathroom.

A long time spring along the old Jordan Trail, Bear Spring is now the source of water for this beautiful and unique vacation cabin, guest cabin and swimming pool. For peace and quiet this rural property (not in a resort development) cannot be beat.

Hike from your back door! Adjacent to Giant Sequoia National Monument, there are literally miles of hiking without having to drive anywhere.

Newly remodeled, this 1800 sq. foot solar-powered hilltop cabin and 500 sq. foot guest cabin sit on a very private, gated 2 acre estate bordering Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Southern Sierra, just 12 miles from the Giant Sequoia groves at Balch Park and 8 miles from Springville.

At 2500 ft elevation, the treed park-like grounds have 360 degree views looking out to Mt. Dennison, Blue Ridge and the valley below. The home has two queen bedrooms, living room with sleeper sofa, love seat and sofa, two bathrooms, full kitchen with bar and breakfast area, formal dining area and game room.

Outdoor areas include a wrap around deck, covered back porch with seating, deck with seating by pool and seating pool-side.

The pool is fed by spring water and pool chemistry is kept strictly balanced for hygiene.

Pool heating is available for an extra fee October, November, April and May. Heating is not necessary June-mid October.

Guest cabin is open plan with high ceilings, lots of windows and large skylight. It features a King and two twins, kitchenette, wood stove and bathroom.

A comprehensive hiking and recreation binder is provided at the house with maps and descriptions of local hikes, Big Trees, swimming and fishing holes, waterfalls, and scenic drives and horseback rides to help you plan your time.

Dog owners can take their dogs on the leash onto the Giant Sequoia National Monument trails in this area as opposed to the National Park where dogs are not allowed on trails.

This upscale vacation home boasts everything that you are looking for to provide a fun, peaceful and relaxing time for your family or small group of friends. An open plan with high, exposed beam ceilings and plenty of comfortable seating create a pleasant social atmosphere. Clerestory windows and French doors bring the outdoors in and provide plenty of light. The beautiful spring fed swimming pool will keep everyone cool and entertained in the summer, and the wood stove will warm winter evenings.

The Master Bath has been recently renovated with antique vanities, a claw foot bathtub and a travertine double shower with rain shower heads. Little luxuries like Wifi, DVD library, high thread count sheets, plush towels, down comforters make this luxury cabin extra special.

The game room, with classic billiard table and tournament quality Foosball table, and outdoor ping pong table hoop-shooting and tether ball provide fun without ever having to leave the property. When you do venture out, there are lakes, rivers, waterfalls, winter snow and big trees only a few miles away.

Avoid hectic tourist crowds and discover the quiet beauty of the Giant Sequoia forests, rivers, lakes and waterfalls in Balch Park and Mountain Home State Forest within Sequoia National Monument. Ride horses among the Giants, hike, fish, bike and cross country ski. This cabin is located near the quaint village of Springville with restaurants, shops, local entertainment, a new park and visitors center.

Come for the Springville Sierra Professional Rodeo and Jackass Mail Run Weekend in April, wildflower touring March through May, bull riding events in August and Apple Festival in October.

About Shelly McKnight

I, my husband Matt and son Sam live at Three Springs Ranch near Sequoia in the Sierra foothills. We have an ongoing experiment with sustainable farming and hike, camp and travel when we can get away. We live here with our goat herd, chicken flock, 2 dogs, large veggie garden and 2 orchards.

Shelly McKnight purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Shelly McKnight chose Sequoia, Kings Canyon

We loved this beautiful area of the Sequoia/ Sierra that is closest to the LA area but largely undiscovered by tourists. After we committed to the 'simple life' and moved from LA, we thought it would be great to use our skills from building sets in the film industry to recreate some neglected cabins that had great locations and lots of potential so that others might be able to enjoy this rich area comfortably.

The Bear Spring Cabins seemed like the ultimate set up for a fun vacation rental: new pool, private location with views adjacent to Giant Sequoia National Monument, architectural interior, and room for a game room. It needed a lot of upgrading and finishing but we had fun making the place into a mini family resort.

What makes this cabin unique

The siting of these cabins on top of a hill with views and millions of acres of public land next door make it an ideal retreat, but is a short drive to the Giant Sequoia groves and the charming town of Springville.

Comfortable, spacious, well appointed, beautiful views. We loved our stay here.

We loved our stay at Bear Spring Cabin. There is so much to do and see both on the property and in the nearby Sequoia groves and surrounding mountains. We wish we could have stayed longer. The house and grounds were spacious and had everything we needed.

Great Vacation Spot for a Family Get-Away

  • 4 of 5

My family and I spent 3 nights, 4 days at the Springville cabin property and had a blast. The property itself is in great condition and provided a lot of fun activities for us both on-site and close nearby. The guest cabin is very private (separate unit) so perfect for a family who has small kids and would need some privacy. My only critique/criticism of the property is that there are house rules plastered all over the place which to us was a bit overkill. We get it.. you want to keep the house in good condition but also provide a fair warning to guests that additional fees could be imposed if anything is damaged during your stay, but it's a bit much. Literally every wall in the place had a sign posted.. some had 2 or 3 :) With that said, I would consider returning to the property another year. It was a very peaceful and quiet get-away for the extended family. Oh and Shelley is great to work with too! Very responsive and accommodating.

Owner's Response: Thank you Elizabeth for your compliments and comments. Oh yes, we do have quite a few little signs. I tried putting instructions and notices in the guest information book, but most did not read them. :-) I reasoned that having information at hand was possibly less annoying than having to go to the information binder whenever you have a questions about an appliance. It is an unfamiliar house with unfamiliar systems, in a rural area with customs and protocol unfamiliar to most guests who live in the city. Our liability insurance requires that we post warnings and instructions about the pool and the wood stove. We also have little instructional signs (some guests have said they were helpful) about how to use the TV, dishwasher, wood stove, ceramic cooktop, and what not to put down the drain because of the septic system (this can ruin your vacation). And yes, I do have a couple of signs about what not to do with the towels and cookware after having chronic problems with having to replace them because of misuse. It is unfortunate, for our guests who are conscientious, to be burdened with those signs. Unfortunately, I never know who will benefit and who will be merely annoyed (because they get it already), and they are the only means of communication about certain issues that has been effective (no more ruined towels or teflon cookware, or large pots of spaghetti down the garbage disposal). So apologies in advance (to future guests) and after the fact to you. :-)

An Unique Find!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from three nights spent at the Bear Spring Cabin. It was a unique property. The house itself was comfortable, well taken care of, and had many unique features. Having teenagers, we were happy that there was no connectivity. We actually spent time as a family without interruption. Our daughters LOVED the game room. They logged many hours of pool.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bear Spring Cabin. It was a great place to return to after a day of hiking (Balch Park, Mountain Home State Forest, and Sequoia National Forest all have some great trails) or even spend the entire day there enjoying the pool. The game room is a really nice feature as well and we put it to good use. Having spent many vacations in VRBO rentals, I would also like to mention that of all the places we have stayed, Shelly was a most responsive and accommodating host! Thank you for a great week!

Beautiful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic luxury house, great furnishings, well equipped and extremely spacious. Pool and games room were a bonus. Provision of pool towels was appreciated. Guest cabin was very generous size too.

We were visited by humming birds, quail, chipmunks and squirrels. Location was peaceful.

Springville had some lovely little thrift and craft shops.

We would definitely stay here again.
