With great regret, we have not done much breeding because Spike had back surgery one summer and shoulder surgery another. We feel our llamas have such beautiful crias, we need to sell them.

We are folks of many occupations. Spike coached at Drake University, baseball, and football, Pat taught kindergarten, first grade, fifth grade, sixth grade and counseled freshman at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
We moved to Grand Lake in 1975. Spike was an assistant principal for four years and then we bought our ranch, Pat sold real estate for 20 years and did property management.
Now we are sort of retired, renting three cabins and raising llamas. For awhile we showed our llamas and had three National Champions.
We have met many nice people and enjoyed the travel. We now stay home much of the time and enjoy the view, peace and quiet of our ranch. Come stay with us and share the tranquility.
We hope to see you soon!

The views, the quiet, the Llamas and the tranquility!
Surrounded by nature yet close to city conveniences. Cozy, comfortable and spacious cabins! Sit on the front porch and enjoy the quiet!
We have a family of 6 so it's not always easy to find affordable places to stay. This far exceeded our expectations. Was well kept, quiet, and the fully stocked kitchen was great. We loved sitting out on the porch at night and taking in the scenery. With a 9, 10, 12, and 13 year old this place was exactly what we wanted with our trip. There's no wifi so it forced the kids to put down the electronics and enjoy each other and the outdoors around us. We will definitely be looking to stay here again when we make our next trip!
Big bonus seeing that Pat and Spike have roots in Iowa where we are from, so really enjoyed doing business with a fellow Iowan.
My husband, daughter and dog stayed the weekend and had the best family time. The cabin itself is great for families with smaller or older kids. The owners are a wonderful couple who really care about their cabins. There kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans and everything you need. We made breakfast each morning and dinner one evening and loved it. There is a fire pit to enjoy a campfire setting so remember to bring the makings of s'mores! We even met another great family who stayed at the cabin next to us. We wanted to get away from the city and relax and Nature Valley Ranch was the perfect place. We hope to go back and bring our friends next time.
The cabin is close enough to enjoy Grand Lake, the restaurants and shops. We were able to go on several great hikes as well.
This is a great pet friendly cabin rental. Our dog loved it! She loved exploring the area around the house. The cabin is pleasant, with a great layout for families, and doesn't smell like pets at all (which happens sometimes at pet friendly places!). But the best part? The sheets are super soft!! I have sensitive skin and often find the sheets in hotels and rentals very irritating- but these are unexpectedly luxe. Also super quiet.
My husband and I stayed in one of the cabins for a week in July. The cabin was spacious and clean. It was great for each of us to have our own bathroom and the washer and dryer came in handy. The kitchen is roomy and has everything you could possibly need to cook meals. I have never seen a better equipped kitchen anywhere! The large front porch was great for sitting and watching the birds and enjoying the mountain view and the peace and quiet. Truly a lovely experience for us.
We loved our stay here. The property sits in a lovely valley with pretty views, and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The home is simple but it has all the basics you will need. Spike (the owner) was so very wonderful to our child, and our child got lots of amazing experiences like meeting the llamas, etc. Highly recommended for anyone with children!
We enjoyed two nights at Nature Valley in August 2011 on a family vacation. Spike and Pat were very accommodating and friendly and gave our kids a chance to meet the lamas. This was a great deal for the price. The cabins are quaint and very well kept. We saw elk on the property and enjoyed walking the drive back to the lamas with the kids. It was also a short drive to the west entrance of RMNP with some fun little towns and lakes nearby.
