Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Echo Creek Cabin is our old-fashioned log cabin located on a 2 acre lot that borders Pike National Forest. Ideal for a peaceful Rocky Mountain getaway with all the convenient comforts of home. Enjoy hiking around the National Forest or relax in a hammock on the full length fabulously rustic log porch with the hummingbirds flitting about or even curl up with a book in front of the cheery red wood stove in the old stone fireplace.

A short drive from Colorado Springs to Woodland Park (which has most services and amenities), then 20 minutes north on scenic Highway 67 brings you to Westcreek: A pretty valley that was surrounded by, but survived the notorious Hayman Fire of 2002, with stands of grand ponderosas, a meandering stream that flows into a quiet lake, and songbirds and wildlife in abundance. This is a Colorado mountain retreat that is close and accessible to city amenities but rural in character and charm. It's a 1930's historic true log structure, with knotty pine paneling and woodwork throughout, completely renovated and made new, including new kitchen, lower garden level, plumbing, wiring, heat system and windows. ALSO PROVIDED: Satellite TV, broadband internet, long distance telephone (cell phones don't work down in the valley)

The porch is one of the grandest around, built in the rustic log tradition, a great place to relax and listen to the rain on the roof. Main level, including living/dining, kitchen, bedroom and bath is original. 2 more bedrooms, family room with gas stove, and bath with shower finish out the walk out lower level. It's an amazing place, come stay awhile!

About Judy, Bill or Linda

I'm a third generation native of Denver. I've always loved spending time in Colorado's mountains. Skiing, hiking, mountain biking....all the predictable and wonderful activities you'd expect. The best memories of all, however, date back to late 1960's / early 1970's family trips to some campy cabins along a stream in Estes Park. These were real log cabins, complete with original pine beams, knotty pine paneling, and pleasantly squeaky wood floors. They had big patios, bigger views, plenty of wild life and always the sound of a distant stream in the background.

Those memories faded over time as my wife and I raised our kids, built careers and did all that adult stuff. A summer, 2013 visit to the campy cabins of beautiful Jenny Lake Lodge in Teton National Park, right outside of Jackson, WY, brought back all of those memories. As we drove back to Denver, the decision had been made. It was just a matter of what, when and where. I was going buy a cabin and create the same sense of serenity I had experienced in Estes Park and at Jenny Lake Lodge.

Judy, Bill or Linda purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Judy, Bill or Linda chose Castle Rock Area

After countless listings, two realtors and what felt like thousands of miles on my car, I came across Echo Creek; a real log cabin complete with original pine beams, knotty pine paneling, and pleasantly squeaky wood floors. It had a big patio, a bigger view, plenty of wildlife and the sound of a distant stream in the background. As the Nelson's beautiful chapter on Echo Creek Cabin came to a close, mine began. Dreams really can come true!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Enjoyed living at the cabin from January through November of 2010.

(John came to Colorado to direct the underwater repairs to the Cheesman Dam on the South Platte River. Teams of expert divers alternated cutting & welding work on the bottom of the dam, which is about 100 years old. Because they worked 200 feet under water, they spent their off-shift in a decompression chamber floating on the top of the reservoir, then were able to go back down and work another shift, over and over again for a month at a time. The repairs were critical to Denver's water supply.)

This is a great Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Close to towns but secluded enough to let you forget your busy life back home. My family loved the porch and I think we ate every meal out side.

A Rustic Gem

  • 5 of 5

A cozy cabin on the edge of a rugged terrain - a western movie location. Great hiking and, fishing nearby on the South Platte and a wonderful rustic porch where you can just sky watch or read while hummingbirds chase each other around. On a hike up to Sheepsnose Mountain you can see nature revitalize itself after the infamous Haymann fire of 2002. The cabin has all you need for a romantic hideaway or a family get-together. We invited a friendly neighbor to join us for supper and he played his blues guitar for us. We were there in summer but the fireplaces and TV would make it a fine winter retreat. The story of how it was placed on the site and its final detailing is an amazing architectural feat.

Mountain Cabin Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is where rustic meets convenience and is an awesome place to stay. The interior has all the charm one could want in a mountain cabin combined with WiFi, a dishwasher and washer/dryer. The exterior begins with a massive front porch and extends to miles of hiking and wildlife just steps from the door. Combine this with the nicest neighbor and one cannot ask for more. The solitude was perfect for us to re-charge and the beautiful drive to Woodland Park provides for access to all the "town" amenities one could want.

Wonderful Christmas Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for Christmas and it was wonderful! We couldn't have asked for a more idyllic white Christmas. Everything about this cabin was cozy and comfortable, and it reminded me of visiting my grandparent's cabin when I was a kid. The views from the porch were beautiful, and the Christmas lights on the cabin added to the festive feel. There was plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing if they wanted, and plenty of activities to occupy our time. By the end of our trip, no one wanted to leave!

I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful mountain getaway. My only recommendation would be to make sure you take a 4-wheel drive or AWD vehicle when visiting the cabin in the winter; getting up the driveway in the snow will be impossible if you don't have 4-wheel or AWD. My husband and I are already making plans to come back to this cabin when the weather is a bit warmer.

Great Family Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We came to the area 10 years ago on our honeymoon and came back this summer to show our kids and in laws just how beautiful Colorado is. This cabin did the trick. The view is breathtaking and the sound of running water from the amazing covered porch just seals the deal. 4 adults and 2 kids in this cabin fit perfectly. Comfortable and just amazing is the way I would describe this cabin. Will recommend over and over again.
