Great Location just off Historic Thames Street!

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This open air, one bedroom apartment is on the second floor of a period two family home in the heart of Newport's Yachting Village. Our guests will enjoy our newly renovated kitchen with a counter and stools as the transition to the living room, which has a sliding glass door out to the small deck with 2 chairs. The deck faces south, so the sun warms and brightens the living room and kitchen area.

The location is key to the appreciation our guests have for the apartment. Walk to the foot of our street and you are on Historic Thames Street.

Cross Thames Street to walk down to the docks of Newport Harbor. Head to the left on Thames for shops and restaurants, the International Yacht Restoration School and King Park, a wonderful picnic spot right on the harbor, especially good for catching sunsets.

Turn right on Thames and within a 5 minute walk you are at Bowen's and Bannister's Wharfs, the center of Newport's shopping and dining district. Another 5 minute walk brings you into historic Washington Square, with the movie theater and more restaurants and shops.

* Walk east to Bellevue Avenue, Cliff Walk and Easton's Beach.

* Catch a sunset sail on one of several fine yacht cruises

* Rent a bike just down the street and tour Newport

* Walk just a few blocks to tour the Gilded Age Mansions

* Go next door to see The Samuel Whitehorn Museum

With miles of bountiful beaches and trails, centuries-old homes, historic landmarks, bustling waterfronts, year-round festivals and events, and hundreds of diverse shops and eateries, Newport has been called the gem of the New England coastline.

Newport was one of the largest cities and busiest seaports in all of Colonial America. Known as the cultural heart of the city, the Old Quarter includes 18th and 19th century buildings, a collection of Colonial homes and museums. Step from the Colonial era to the famed “summer cottages” of America’s Gilded Age, perched along famed Bellevue Avenue. More than a dozen of these palatial homes, many with extraordinary gardens and grounds, have been painstakingly preserved and many are open year round.

About Kristyn

We have lived in this house for 32 years, a two family house on a side street off Lower Thames Street. I am a book restorer and my wife, Kristyn, is a professional gardener. I am also a sailor with 30,000 offshore miles and Newport is a perfect place for us to indulge in all our interests.

Kristyn purchased this apartment in 1978

Why Kristyn chose Newport

When we first moved in, Thames Street was boatyards and ship chandleries. Now it is shops and restaurants, marinas and nightclubs and though we are in the middle of it all, being on a side street allows us to enjoy a quiet not afforded on Thames Street. We can walk to virtually every restaurant in town, some a minute away, others 12. The launch to the Festivals, Goat Island and Jamestown is a four minute walk. Newport and all it has to offer is literally right on our doorstep.

Excellent Location! Clean and Spacious Apartment Right off of Thames St.

  • 5 of 5

I was really fortunate to find this place on Homeaway only a week or so before a last minute trip to Newport. Kristyn was very accommodating and made the booking easy with her great communication. The apartment has its own entrance and is on the second floor of a beautiful old Newport home. The kitchen is updated and pretty well stocked with anything you might need to make some meals "at home." The bedroom has high ceilings and several windows that if opened along with the slider to the small rear balcony/deck gives a nice cross breeze. There is AC as well if needed. The bathroom is a little narrow (as they seem to be in these older homes) but was spotlessly clean and inviting. All linens, towels and even little travel shampoo/soaps, etc. were provided.

The location is fantastic. Kristyn provides a guest parking pass (itself worth ~$20 day on Thames St.), so you can park your car on their street and walk to your heart's content. We enjoyed dinner/drinks down on the pier at 41* North, seafood down at Scales and Shells, drinks at the Revolving Door and still barely scratched the surface of what Thames St. had to offer during our short stay. All without driving anywhere!

First Beach and Cliff Walk is only about a mile walk away as well. That said, we'd highly recommend taking a drive to the Castle Hill Inn and getting some drinks on The Lawn. When the weather is nice, there is probably nowhere with a better view.

We hope to be back soon to take in some more of Kristyn's sightseeing/dining recommendations that we just didn't have time for this trip!

Cosy apartment in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was very clean and comfortable with a small balcony overlooking the back garden. Super location right off Thames Street. We were provided with a parking permit and after parking the car we didn't move it again until the end of the weekend when we left. We walked everywhere. Only 15-30 min walk to the mansions.

Perfect for Us !!!

This is our second stay at this property!! Kristyn and her husband are amazing hosts..They are there if you need them, yet invisible if you dont...We love this apartment, it is in the perfect location and comes with a parking spot, which is difficult to find in Newport. We cooked many meals in the kitchen, but we also walked to several places for dinners, desserts and drinks. Can't wait to return !! Karen and Ann

My husband and I traveled to Newport for a quick weekend getaway and this rental was perfect. Absolutely great location - we walked to mostly everything. House is clean and there was even a pack n play to use for our daughter. There was a pass for parking and it was right in front of the house which is helpful as we had a lot of baby related items. Owners are sweet and no fuss at all to book!

We just returned from a wonderful stay in Newport and loved this apartment.

The owners are very nice and accommodating and the apartment is just lovely. We had everything we needed and at a fraction of the price for a Newport hotel. You can't go wrong booking this apartment and the location couldn't be any better to the downtown area. We parked our car and never took it out!.I would highly recommend this apartment.
