This is our second home and is not your typical stripped rental home. The house has wonderful art and nautical antiques. The full Pacific Ocean view is amazing. This is a terrific honeymoon or special anniversary home. It is common to see sea lions and whales in front. The sunsets and stars at night are spectacular.
The 3 guest rooms consist of 1 queen Master and 1 queen guest room and 1 double (Lazy Boy) hide-a bed. There is also another inflatable double mattress available for kids. The restored pool table is over 120 years old. Directly in front of the home is tide pooling and shoreline excursions. A short walk to Black Sands Beach and the trailhead for the 'Lost Coast' wilderness area. A 30 minute drive to the world famous 'Avenue of the Giants' redwood forest.
Heidi and I absolutely love the ocean. We are both self employed and require frequent getaways to completely relax. We are fortuneate enough to able to 'fly in' to Shelter Cove in our Beechcraft Bonanza. We love to share this amazing place with our VRBO friends.
The Owner purchased this house in 1999
Shelter Cove is one of the last places where you can own a home right on the Pacific Ocean. It is very quant and the people are very friendly. It has a great public airstrip. The natural wildlife and fishing is amazing, not to mention the whales breaching in front of the house!
Ocean kayaking, fishing, abalone diving, and relaxing! Oh the sunsets are unbelievable.
We had a great visit in Shelter Cove, even with the rainy weather. This house was a perfect place to stay for the four of us. The bedrooms and living room were comfortable, and the full kitchen made meal prep convenient. The oceanside location is what really attracted us; we loved being able to sit in the cozy window nooks to enjoy the beautiful views when we needed a break from the rain. Thank you for a great stay!
My 73-year old father's greatest wish was to see the redwoods. I planned a dream trip for months and couldn't wait to spend time with my Dad seeing the redwoods and the pacific coast in northern California. Our trip started in San Fran, then we drove along the Pacific Coast Hwy. to Shelter Cove. We were so tired from the long drive and couldn't wait to settle in to this expensive rental on the ocean. To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement. Immediately after entering the house, we noticed a dank smell. As we started turning on the lights, we saw bugs and creepy crawlies everywhere -- all over the kitchen, in the bathrooms, on the floors, walls, and ceilings. I was horrified. In addition, the house was filthy. I found some bug spray under the sink and spent nearly two hours spraying and cleaning. I immediately contacted the home owner, but got no response. The following morning, we found more bugs, slimy snails and centipedes everywhere, ants and spiders in the bathroom and ants crawling all over the kitchen counters even though there was no food there. We couldn't operate any of the outdoor lights because they didn't leave a key to the garage, which is where the light switches were located. I called the owner, but he wouldn't answer the phone. He finally sent a text message the next day saying his housekeeper would come by later to handle things. She never showed up. I sprayed and cleaned again that night to keep the pests at bay. I called and sent another message to the owner, with photos of the filth from all over the house. He promised the housekeeper would come the next day. While she turned on the outdoor lights, she didn't clean or get rid of the bugs. I contacted the owner AGAIN. Late that evening, the housekeeper finally arrived. She was embarrassed about the condition of the house, and said she had already told the homeowner that the house needed to be exterminated and repaired (water flooded in the front and back doors when it rained, which we cleaned up). She marginally cleaned the house and removed dead bugs, but nothing was done to prevent new bugs from invading. And sure enough, soon after she left, the place was infested again. The whole experience was incredibly heartbreaking because I wanted to make this trip so very special for my father. To add insult to injury, the owner charged me a big cleaning fee! Wish I could attach photos of the house, as they tell the full story. Stay Away!
Gorgeous, gorgeous location! A must-rent mostly for the wonderful sights and sounds that can't be beat! The house is nice, too!
This is a beautiful home and literally right at the waters edge! Black sands beach is just a short distance and is a must see beach. Chris sent us plenty of useful information that definitely came in handy and made this a super easy time for us. We would definitely give this a 5 star rating for beauty, ease of access, and owner interaction. If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet getaway then this is the one!
We could not have been more thrilled with our experience at this home! It is so beautiful, inside and out, and the location is superb. Every morning, we walked outside and explored the craggy rocks that are directly next to the house, finding muscles, crabs, and sea anemones. The kids were over the moon! Every afternoon we sat on the deck, staring out at the ocean and endless stars. We drove less than a mile to the Cove's perfect black sand beach each day and played for hours. We all had an amazing time and will definitely be returning. Memories for a lifetime!
