Outdated - don't be fooled by the title

  • 1 of 5

Pros:

1. It was decently priced compared to other houses

2. It comfortably fit 14 people as described

Cons:

1. The house is very outdated. It looks like it hasn't been updated since the 80's. As such, a lot of the furniture, appliances, faucets etc were falling apart. As an example, one of the beds was being held up by bricks.

2. The showers smelled like mildew likely because there is a constant leak of water. The house also had a distinct unpleasant odor. It wouldn't shock me if there's a mold issue in this house.

3. The pool had so much chlorine that it not only caused everyone's eyes to burn but it bleached everyone's bathing suit.

4. We found several roaches during our stay there.

To be honest, this house shouldn't be advertised and rentable by anyone. The homeowners should care enough to fix this house up before it's placed on websites such as VBRO. If it weren't for the fact that it was a holiday weekend And everything was already booked, I would have canceled this reservation upon arriving and seeing how bad this house was. Companies should know better than to advertise this type of house.

Good time but disappointed with service

  • 3 of 5

The house was what we expected, dated but had a good space for our family.

The pool was better than expected.

We were disappointed with the lack of service response. We arrive on Saturday finding out that the stove didn't work. After calling several times on Sunday we found out that the previous renters had the same issue. After waiting 3 days, we didn't get a follow-up from anyone about the stove issue until Thursday, over halfway through our stay. This is when they finally fixed it. We were very disappointed as we had left several messages, was counting on being able to cook meals to save money, not to mention the safety of a stove sparking in the house.

It wasn't until I left a message saying we would be contacting authorities, that we got a call back.

Happy with property, disappointed with VRBO's customer service.

  • 4 of 5

property worked well for us. We were very happy with the accommodations, location, and everything was as advertised. It could have been a bite cleaner. My biggest concern is lack of response from VRBO, I needed to adjust payment method and never got a response from an email to portal, calls back from finance office, or emails direct. I also had a question related to final cleaning/move out, I sent the question Friday about 4:00 pm to housekeeping and again about 4:30 to customer service and never heard anything. VRBO is good at automated info but customer service is very lacking.

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

When we arrived at the house we found the front door covered with mildew and grime (most of which we later scrubbed off). The door knob would not latch properly after we entered with the security code. This was also later repaired by maintenance people. We immediately felt disappointed when we entered the house. It has a run down feeling and appearance. The interior could use refurbishment, especially the bathrooms.

We found a number of maintenance issues: broken blinds in 3 rooms, a central air unit that had a leaking drain, the pool heater locked at 64 degrees, the master bath window frame was broken, missing towel rack in master bath, rusting fixtures in both bathrooms, etc. Maintenance people eventually came and repaired most of these problems, but we felt obligated to stay in the house while this was going on, thereby losing about a day and a half of our vacation.

On the positive side, the location is great! Only a 10 minute walk to Golden Beach and about 25 minute walk to the town center which is a great place to shop, dine, stroll and conduct business (Post Office, ATM etc). Also, we enjoyed walking in the neighborhood and meeting friendly people. The pool was super after we got the heater fixed. The dog beach is only a short drive away and our Golden Doodle enjoyed a half a dozen visits there.

On balance, we enjoyed our visit but the charge for the house was too much for the condition and value received.
