THE PATTERSON HOUSE, located on Elf Point is your opportunity to book a vacation in a pet friendly Lake Access home on a quiet point with a nice lake view and access to a community boat slip that comes with the optional use of a Pontoon Boat for your lake enjoyment! The Pontoon Boat Option is only $500 (Less than 1/2 the price if you rent from a Marina) for full usage during your stay and it is docked a short distance from the house. This well landscaped, well furnished, Lake Access home is located on Elf Point on the North Carolina side of Lake Chatuge. This is an older home with native rock veneer outside but has been totally renovated on the inside. Guests have commented that the pictures do not do the house justice, especially the inside, so we have added some new pics. It has two master bedroom suites and one other large bedroom. One master bedroom has a rock fireplace with gas logs, a king bed and a bath with a large jetted garden tub/shower. The other master bedroom has a king bed, sitting area and large bath with a jetted garden tub/shower. The third bedroom has two double beds and a large bath with jetted garden tub. All bedrooms have TVs. The kitchen has all appliances with a washer and dryer. The kitchen has a nice lake view. The den has a single pull-out sofa and TV. A nice quiet wooded location

  • 3 of 5

If you're looking for an out of the way place where hardly anyone can find you, then this could be for you. It is not high end and there is no view of the lake, to speak of there are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, just no parking for more than two small vehicles. The property is in a moderate state of disrepair and in sore need of a makeover. If you can put this behind you and enjoy the pontoon boat provided it makes up for the lack of detail, towels, and linens. It sounds like the motor on the boat needs a set of new spark plugs or guests have no clue that the gas and oil mixture on this two stroke Evinrude is 50:1.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that the house was not a good fit for this group from South Florida. The gentleman that I rented to and corresponded with was very nice and did not express any unhappiness with the house. The only issues that he reported to me was a text that the garbage needed emptying 2 days after arrival. They filled a 50 gallon rolling curb canister in 2 days which is somewhat unusual for our guests. I asked my helper to go by and empty it, which he did. The only other issue reported to me was the coffee maker stopped working. The guest graciously agreed to pick up another and I sent reimbursement after he checked out. Upon leaving he sent a text to me saying that they had vacated and ended the text with, "...Thanks very much!" Again, no indication of a problem. I was at the house when the party arrived and was there to check the housekeeping and preparation for their arrival. I met everyone and took the gentleman over to the Pontoon Boat that goes with the rental (as I always do) to go over the operating and safety information. As part of my presentation, we cover the engine, gas, marina location and detailed instructions about the boat. The boat does not need "plugs". It was tuned in June with new plugs, by the nearby marina. When we returned to the house a lady ran out yelling, "there are no towels in the house!." I went in and showed them that all three bed/bath suites has two full sets of bath, hand and wash towels and another full set in the extra bath. I provided extra towels from the utility closet. They actually brought more people than was listed on the reservation so it was a bit crowded (I did not make an issue about the extra people). As for the house, it is an older home but has been totally renovated with all new fixtures about 10 year back and we added a new kitchen and porch when we bought it about 8 years ago. It is very clean and well kept and not in "moderate disrepair". You can easily park three normal size vehicles and guests in the past have also parked boats in the yard. Sorry to be so long with this response but I do respectfully disagree with several of the points in this review.

Highly Recommended!

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed staying at this very comfortable house! The house is spacious and cozy! We loved using the pontoon boat, and Lake Chatuge is absolutely beautiful! Cliff was very prompt to answer our questions, and was great to work with. The trails and scenery throughout Hayesville and the surrounding area is amazing! I would highly recommend this house!

Awesome relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. Mr Hood was so kind and accommodating. The house is laid out well and can accommodate a large or multiple families with lots of room and private baths for all. We were grateful to be able to bring our dog. She loved it too. The boat was an added blessing. The only improvement I might suggest is a few additional light blankets. The beds are quite comfortable but with only a sheet and the heavy comforters it was a bit warm for summer. That is by no means a complaint. Just a suggestion. We loved it and will definitely be back. We had planned all these places we were going to go and after seeing the house and the lake, we only left the house to hike in the nearby national forest.

Chatuge Lake house with a VIEW

  • 3 of 5

The biggest and main draw to this property was the pictures advertised on the web site. Screened back porch with a great view of the lake and a dock, and advertised as "House on Lake Chatuge". When we arrived, we found out that the view of the lake and dock pictured is actually someone else's "private property" and you cannot use the dock or walk down to the lake from the back yard as pictured. To me, this is misleading. Yes, it is a lake view - that is all. Our first night there, we had to wash the bed linens as they were left in what appeared to be recently slept on with remnants of hair and obvious slept on wrinkling, not fresh clean washed sheets on the two main beds. Jetted tubs had a blackish appearing gunk around jets on three of the tubs and blew out more gunk when turned on.The overall condition of the house and furnishings are nice and comfortable. We did discuss the situations with the owner and issues were taken care of. I just feel like these types of issues should NOT come up to start with. The last thing you want to do when you arrive somewhere to start your vacation and get ready to go to bed is to have to stop and go wash the bed sheets. Wifi was slow and will use up cell data. We connected to wifi to look up local activities and actually used more cell data then wifi. Would grade a 5 out of 10 overall. We did get the pontoon boat rental and boat was nice (not the one pictured) and had room for family and was good out on the lake. I guess I should have asked more specific questions.

Owner's Response: First let me say that we are very proud of our many wonderful reviews and return guests over the years and we take suggestions and criticism very seriously. We also apologize to the reviewing guests for experiencing a less than 5 star experience. We also appreciate the kind and positive things the reviewing guests said about our property. These were very nice people and not habitual "complainers". I had the opportunity to meet and talk with them and we exchanged several texts and as they said, "We did discuss the situation with the owner and issues were taken care of." Issues: 1) Housekeeping- We dropped the ball here. Being an early/off season rental, I should have totally inspected the house after the cleaning. I did meet with the housekeeper prior to the cleaning and did a walk-thru and went over the cleaning check list. I was back in during the cleaning and actually witnessed the clean sheets going on the beds in one bedroom but not the other two bedrooms. When alerted by the guests, I took the comforters and blankets to a 24Hr laundry with heavy-duty machines and laundered them. My assessment of the problem was that a previous guest allowed their pets to be on the beds and comforters and shedding was imbedded into the comforters. But I did not do a final inspection and should have and the housekeeper should have alerted me to this problem on the cleaning checklist sheet. 2) "House on Lake Chatuge" I could not find this quote on the web site. The site does say "Lake Chatuge Home with Pontoon Boat", "Lake Access with lakefront view", "Nice lake view and access to a Community boat slip that comes with the optional pontoon use" 3) "WiFi slow"- The WiFi was just upgraded from 5 Mbps to 12Mbps the first of May, which is the fastest available at this location since there is no fiber available. Poor cable TV service was also replaced by DISH the first of May. Again, our apologies to the guests and we hope that they will allow us the opportunity to better serve them in the future.
