About Laurie Norris
We are private owners of The Laurelei, purchased in 2001 from the original owners. We had stayed at North Pointe as guests for a few years and always anticipated each return to the island. The Laurelei is one of only 4 groundfloor condos with a private deck & back door opening directly onto the beach. 18 feet of sliding glass doors open to gorgeous views of the Caribbean Sea. The complex of 10 units was completely rebuilt in 2005-2006, with state-of-the-art poured reinforced concrete construction (one of the strongest systems possible), after Hurricane Ivan caused damage in late 2004. We chose luxury upgrades, added custom furnishings, fine bedding & upholstery & linens, along with artistic touches such as original artworks and island sculpture. We take pride in constantly updating our island home, providing all the amenities and in making it as comfortable and affordable as possible for our happy guests.

Why Laurie Norris chose Rum Point
Things we love about our island home: We love the intimacy of a small island and the friendly and safe atmosphere that Grand Cayman offers. The North Side beaches are empty, secluded, with many open seaside areas & exclusive homes on large lots. Being alone with nature and the Sea and having the beach to ourselves much of the time, is priceless. We also love knowing the weather and the Sea are always warm. The sea & sky are ever-changing with different hues of turquoise and cobalt violets and pink, and one is enveloped in a feeling of peace and relaxation. The North Pointe complex of 10 condos has wonderful management, friendly helpful owners, and is set in a safe, uncrowded, upscale area; the only apartment complex in a 2 mile radius. Our guests can have the choices between peaceful seclusion and easy access to attractions, water sports and dining/nightlife. The Laurelei is fully licensed with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and meets its strict standards.

Wonderful Spring Break !
March at the Laurelei offered a wonderful getaway. The booking process was a breeze and Laurie was very easy to work with and responsive to our questions. She also provided a wealth of information about how to make the most of the trip.
If you want to explore all the wonderful things the island has to offer, a car is required. It was easy to jump in the car and we made multiple trips to Starfish Point and Rum Point beach to swim and watch the sunset. We also made a trip to the east side of the island to see the blow holes and made a stop at Collier's Beach. We made 2 trips to the west side of the island once for horseback riding with Pampered Ponies in Barker's National Park (Beautiful beach and not a sole in sight!) and another trip to the Turtle Center. We were able to grab lunch at Sunshine Grill and Duke's along Seven Mile Beach and take a stroll in the sand! It was always nice to have the quiet comfort of the Laurelei to return to.
We made a couple trips to the Grocery Store since we cooked most of our meals at the Condo. We made use of the Charcoal Grill on several occasions which was even equipped with a light to help after the sun went down. We went to Hurley's grocery but found the selection better at Foster's near the airport since Hurley's was doing some renovations. The liquor Store next to Hurley's was convenient and well priced.
We grabbed some drinks and appetizers at Over the Edge and watched a sunset on our last evening on the island which was a great way to end the trip.
Great Quiet Place to Stay
Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Laurelei. The information that Laurie provided about the area was very helpful. The condo was a perfect location for us. There are many pool toys and towels on the lanai. We loved sitting on the lanai or outside by pool and listening to waves.
We found the local grocery store Chisholm's convenient and they had most of what we needed.
We loved the Rum Point District. We did all our activities from there. Stingray City tour, Bioluminous Tour, Jet Ski Snorkeling Safari. Starfish point is a very short drive as is the Crystal Caves. We had plenty of options for eating out. Kaibo Beach BBQ was nice. The Wreck Bar and Grill was our favorite lunch spot. Over the Edge is close by. Tukka and the Italian Kitchen on the East End were both excellent and less than 30 minute drive. Don't miss the Blow Holes as they were awesome the day we were there.
We just hope we can visit again!
Thank you for being our guests! We are so pleased that you enjoyed the seclusion and also all the nearby extra activities offered at beautiful Rum Point Beach Park.
We strive to make our island home a welcome and comfortable tropical retreat for our happy guests and are thrilled that you would like to return again to The Laurelei.
My family spent spring break at the Laurelei, and couldn't have been happier. The layout worked perfectly for our family of 4 (two boys, ages 9 and 11), and the condo was appointed with everything we could possibly need. My husband even commented at one point 'we could have shown up with only swimsuits and been fine for the week'!
Laurie was incredibly helpful, even providing an extremely detailed welcome packet in advance with info about the condo and the entire island, which was so useful for planning our trip. The condo was just as it appeared in the pictures, although perhaps the view was even better in person!
It was our first visit to the North Side of Grand Cayman, and we really enjoyed how quiet it was. There is plenty to do and great restaurants around, but none of the crowds that fill Georgetown and 7 mile beach. We hardly even saw a boat go by! It is a much more relaxed lifestyle on the North Side. The condo's pool and beach were also nearly empty. The snorkeling was great just outside, we were even greeted by a stingray at the beach on our first day. There are more rocks and plants in the water than you would find on 7 Mile Beach, but that also means more sea life to see!
We enjoyed exploring the whole island and the North Side/Rum Point. Some favorites include: Rum Point Beach Club, Kaibo, Tukka Restaurant, Macabuca/ Cracked Conch, the Cayman Turtle Center, and snorkeling/scuba diving at Stingray City and the sandbar with Indepth Watersports. Grand Cayman is great for Divers, particularly new ones, as the water is calm and shallow.
All in all, it was a great vacation and we can't wait to return to the Laurelei!
Nice secluded spot on the beach!
Laurie's condo is everything she says it is. It is nicely appointed with all of the comforts of home. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need, and I do mean everything, including a blender which was great for frozen drinks on the deck overlooking the ocean.
The property is well maintained inside and out. The pool was clean and inviting and the grounds were well kept.
There are plenty of towels and some floats/noodles and such available for use. Some snorkel equipment too. Along with a couple of beach mats, beach totes and coolers too.
Plenty of extras as well from previous guests who paid it forward with extra items they left behind like sunscreen, bugspray, laundry detergent. Even a couple of beers in the fridge. We carried on the tradition in kind.
The condo is in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle, very relaxing. There is good snorkeling right outside your back door. The other units were vacant during our stay so we had the beach and the pool all to ourselves!
The is a small grocery and liquor store near by as well as a couple of restaurants. We rented bikes and rode to Rum Point and Starfish Point. You will probably need a car. There is another grocery and liguor store and a few more restaurants on the east side, about an easy 15 minute drive with almost no traffic. Boddentown had a few more places to eat and was about 20 minutes away. You never have to get into the "thick of it" if you choose not to. We only went into Georgetown once on a day with no cruise ships so it was pretty quiet. The drive took about 45 mins and was not bad. Google maps helped by letting us know when a roundabout was coming up but it was pretty straight forward.
I definitely recommend this place, and dealing with Laurie was a breeze. If you are looking for a clean quiet place to stay in a beautiful location drop Laurie a line, she will answer all of your questions.
Private Beach Paradise
We stayed here with our 2 kids for spring break on our first trip to Grand Cayman. The property was quiet and peaceful, and could not be closer to the water. This unit was stocked with absolutely everything we needed, and many things we didn't expect, including water shoes, snorkel gear, & beach toys. The lanai was amazing for our family, as you can open all the shutters, and enjoy the wonderful breeze, and the gorgeous view of the pool & ocean at the same time. The pool was lovely and clean, and plenty big enough for the property. The beach itself is small, but there was plenty of room for everyone who was staying there at the same time, and my toddler had plenty of sand! The water is very shallow for quite a ways out, so you will have to go to the famous beaches for deeper wading/swimming. My husband & teenage son enjoyed the snorkeling at this property, however, and the owner included lots of info on how to snorkel from the condo safely, which we really appreciated. We had a fantastic time, and I would highly recommend this condo!
You will need a car, as this location is quite far from the airport. This is part of its charm, and the drive in/out to the more populated areas is scenic and not at all busy.
Thank you for your lovely review of our beachfront getaway. We so appreciate both the positive comments and tips for families.
We hope you can return again to our peice of paradise!
This was a truly amazing place and deal! The condo is adorable, clean and ready to go. We agree with other comments that everything was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. We were four adults and one two year old. The kitchen had everything we needed: coffeepot, spices, every utensil and pot to cook with and a blender too! There is satellite TV and internet at the condo. What makes this place unusual is you get the best of both worlds. This particular condo is positioned so that you sit on the deck and see the ocean and pool at the same time! There was unexpected high winds the first two days so we adjusted our itinerary accordingly (this was unusual/a fluke for this time of year). The owners were absolutely 100% very easy to work with. We had rented a car (you need too!) and drove around exploring 7 mile, Dolphin Cove, Hell, Rum Point etc. The end summary is this…we were blessed that we connected with this condo. It gave us all the privacy and yet access to so many things but not at high prices. Here is what we recommend: Go to Rum Point Beach! Food and drinks are very reasonable, beach is beautiful and the activities are very well priced. Attend a beach barbeque on the East End (there are more than one). Don’t bring towels from home. The condo has floaties and noodles for the pool and lots of beach towels. Eat at Over the Edge! Their prices were well matched for their food and the lobster was yummy. Sting Ray City is the coolest thing ever and worth the money. Dolphin Cove was a once in a lifetime adventure (this was our most expensive outing) and as the two dolphins had just given birth, we got to meet their babies! There is a “grocery store” near the condo with very minimal stuff. Tukka restaurant has amazing happy hour prices and food. The little gift shop across from them (might look scary) but has the most wonderful local souvenirs from local artists! Bring a duffel bag or suitcase carry on with dry snacks and this off sets the cost. Hell was overrated and not worth the drive in (we had such high hopes to mail postcards etc but it just wasn’t worth the drive in and all the postcards had the guy who owns the place face on it…which looking back was actually pretty funny). We cannot even begin to thank the owners for this amazing opportunity.
Thank you for your more than generous review of our treasured island home. It's a pleasure to hear that we helped you build wonderful memories. We are so happy to hear of of our guests' experiences and adventures, and that you really enjoyed our condo. We hope you will return again.
